That guy needs a psych evaluation. He is a paranoid, selfish asshole who doesn‘t know how to apologize. He fucks up every relationship he has and feels victimized.

Hannah should have listened to Michael Scott’s advice: “Fool me once, strike one. But fool me twice? Strike three!“

I can't believe that I actually finished this!
1) It could've finished at 50%!!! Why did you have to drag it for so loooong?!
2) The hero (actually he's no hero at all), the guy needs help! paranoia plus childish behavior....aghhh
3) That heroin? How many times does a guy have to treat you like s*** before you have a backbone?
4) zero back story about the h....she has no family at all and you don't understand where she comes from and how she financed her life as a student then dropped out and had money to start her own business. But she had money...where did that come from? she's only 26 with a business that is struggling. Plus, the Hero's brother kept telling the Hero he needs to be careful with her and that she had been hurt in the past...there was no mention of this from her, or how it affected her personal life. It's like she came out of no where with no history at all...
5) The dialogue? Most of it was like listening to a teenage drama from the 1990s!

Don't waste your time like I did...

Long winded

We all love the enemies to lovers theme, however I felt this book was too long and the story dragged out way too much. The heroine is constantly accredited as a strong, self sufficient woman, but throughout the story she just rolls over and takes shit from the "hero." The hero/villain is a deeply troubled man with intimacy and trust issues resulting from.....wait for it......his brother getting a go cart he wanted when they were kids! It was just all around too much. This good have been cut down to a 150 page novella and I think it would have flowed better. One plus side is that the sex scenes were pretty good, however unbelievable. Overall, I really wished I was the type of person that can put a book down and not finish because I would have saved myself several hours of mindnumbing dialogue.

There will probably be spoilers after this first paragraph. I'm not sure yet. But it's a rather long paragraph too, so you won't see them right way at least. haha. Sit back and get comfy, you're in for a long read! So, I do not understand how this book has 51% of the people giving it a 5 star review with an overall of 4.2 right now. This book was a struggle to finish. I didn't even want to read it (and I read a book every few days) but I also am not one to DNF a book either. So I slowly moved my way to completion of this book. I don't even know where to begin with the review....

*spoiler alerts may begin here*

The synopsis is completely misleading thinking there was something more in-depth or sinister about Hannah and Grayson's brother.... um. *spoiler alert* they were friends in college. Whoop-tee-do. Who cares?! That takes me to my next point...

The two main characters, Hannah and Grayson, are just terribly written characters (hence the struggle to finish) and they make absolutely no sense as the story progresses. Hannah is a hugely successful, independent woman who quit college and started her own business at like 23. The business was initially very successful and made her plenty of money but eventually she started to run it into the ground because she didn't want to raise prices and impact her customers for the "natural" beauty products she was creating, so the company ended up losing money and her investors basically forced her to sell (enter Grayson's company to purchase hers & the investors were pretty crappy too - that was the opening of the book basically - meeting with the investors). Though she founded her own company and is independent, she has absolutely ZERO backbone! "oh, he's so handsome, I just can't resist him.... I'm drawn to him." is her ongoing excuse for letting him repeatedly hurt her feelings and be just plain shitty to her. What?? No. One time, ok, we'll do a second chance.... but three chances? Hell to the no. I'm with her friend, Amber. Let him go!

Ok, now for Grayson... um. psychical issues much? He was this "big, bad handsome alpha male" who was nothing more than a shiny insecure pipsqueak who treated Hannah like crap more often than not for the first 80% of the book. His initial trust issues started with his brother, Jack, who swore he didn't want a particular toy growing up that Grayson wanted, and then when running to daddy saying he wanted that particular toy and got it. Hence the trust issues that carried on with him through LIFE apparently! Really? Come on now. And Jack also kissed a girl Grayson "thought" he loved. So in Grayson's mind, Jack couldn't be trusted and wanted whatever he had, including the company they both worked for. Mind you, there are 6 brothers total and even Grayson admitted they had some cross over in sleeping with the same girls at times between the 6 of them. *insert eye roll here* But God forbid you talk to your brother when you have an issue with them! no no. let's hold a grudge and a lifetime of trust issues into your 30s. The last part of the book, after his best friend, Justin, talked some sense in to him over coffee, was nice... Grayson seemed like a decent guy then. But the first 90% of the book, he sucked (and not in a good, pleasurable way).

Several of the secondary characters were good though - his BFF Justin, her BFF Amber, his Mom, and even Jack. I am intrigued by the second book for Jack - so I may give it a go, but I'm not super optimistic after learning about their mom and her intuition in this book regarding Grayson, it seems like she would know what her son Jack is up to as well.

Now, let's talk about the editing.... or lack of editing and issues in the book... There were several times where I was like, "what? that doesn't even make sense!" I originally gave this book 2 stars and as I type more about the complaints, I'm thinking maybe 1 star would be more accurate! But, I will keep it as 2 stars. The book had the potential to be good... but drug on and repeated too much (primarily of his insecurities) for it to be anything higher, but still seems a bit better than 1 star. So the part that really made me go, "huh?" after minor, "ums" and "huhs?" before that was after Hannah went to dinner with Grayson (after she was pregnant but before she told him she was pregnant) and she ended up feeling ill at the restaurant and getting sick at home... Grayson helped her and had her lay down and made her tea and toast (he was super sweet in the scene and very unlike his prior self) but took care of her and then asked, "Should I go?" Simple enough. But the next paragraph is where it made no sense... "I should have told him no. I wanted to tell him no, but the other part of me wanted him to stay. That was the part I let win." and she said, "you can stay" to him. It doesn't make sense as written.... the "no" should be a "yes" because a no is the same as the part that wanted him to stay. and for the record, with the way he had treated her throughout the book up to that point, she should have said yes to having him go! *insert another eye roll* There were several things like this where they either changed the initial question or they changed the response. Had he said, "Should I stay?" then the book would have made sense with the talk of saying no.

So yeah, I don't recommend this book at all. Save your time and your brain. Or read the first 15%, skip to around 40% and read to 50% and then jump to like 78% maybe.

I will also say I can't stand when authors use the epilogue to promote their next book!!! OMFreakingG! STOP! That's not the purpose of an epilogue.... An epilogue is, "a section or speech at the end of a book or play that serves as a comment on or a conclusion to what has happened." Telling me about the next damn book in the series is not a flipping epilogue! It's simply a preview of the next book! Get your words right! Now, if you want to add in a "preview of the next book" section - I'm cool with that! BECAUSE THAT'S THE PURPOSE OF A PREVIEW!! This book didn't need an epilogue - there was enough of a wrap up for them (other than to show he finally got his company and had 5 more kids) to end the story. /end rant

Where to begin... well, I'm half surprised I finished the book. It is well written, but Grayson is just annoying, narcissistic, mean (almost cruel), and a jackass. He has 'trust' issues... oh, boohoo. They apparently stem from his brother getting a toy he wanted when they were children, and he just hasn't gotten over it, so he just can't trust anyone. Yeah, dude has issues. He treats Hannah like a piece of trash more than once, but she keeps coming back even though she knows he will do it again. At the same time, she reacts poorly by leaving instead of talking things through - which I guess wouldn't make a good story if nothing happened...

My other problem is the sex scenes. There are a lot of very detailed scenes in this book. I don't have a problem with them, but I am getting really bored reading them when they aren't actually helping the story along and are there as filler. There is a whole (quite long) scene that is a dream sequence. Not necessary, only filler, doesn't add to the story at all and I just get annoyed.

The only thing redeeming for me is that the supporting characters - ie the Bancroft brothers - seem interesting and I actually would like to know more about their stories, so I might get book #2... maybe.

Not my cup of tea!!

I couldn't finish this. I tried. I swear I tried, but I just couldn't.

The Hero was not a Hero. He did no grand gesture, or he did nothing to help others. He was all about himself. Arrogant, and selfish.. not in a good way. There was so many things wrong with him. To be the oldest and to have his brother act more mature than him. Ugh!

The Hero is nothing but a narcissist. And to be in a looong feud with your brother about a go kart and because he wanted a girlfriend he had in the past, it was just stupid and made no sense. The writing was very crappy. Looong read for nothing. .

Done get me started on the girls. She is doormat. Does not have a back bone. And she let him walk over her like she doesn't have self respect. But because he's so sexy blah blah blah. Worst book I've ever read. And I've read a lot. But then again I didn't finish. It was physically painful to continue.

I really do not understand the high rating. This book was too slow and way too long. H is irritating and unsympathetic. And seriously, pages and pages about the hatred between the brothers that is solved in a 5-minute childlike conversation? I deserve a medal to have finished this one.

Challenging

Grayson and Hannah are the main characters in this story. The theme is good, but why Grayson was written as such an arrogant jerk, insecure in his personal life and paranoid with relationships is beyond reason. This book was very hard to stay with. There is not one redeeming thing that would make any classy, beautiful, strong willed woman put up with him. Until the last few chapters of the book, the best thing Hannah could have done is run as fast and as far away from him as she could get. When they meet it’s because the cosmetic company she as developed is going under and he buys failing companies. His deceased father started the billion dollar business, there are 6 sons and what is described as a wonderful, loving family. Brother Jack also works for the company and Grayson feels his brother is in competition to be CEO, as well as every aspect of his life. I can’t imagine any parent who was so loving and a great parent would devise a Will with the stipulations he did. I like this author and plan to read the next in the series, but hoping Jack is a more likable person.

Long haul

A great well written book, I thought Grayson and Hannah would never resolve their differences and stay married, but they finally admitted their love was going to stay. I loved that took them a long time to finally admit their love.

****Review of Book 1:
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the steamy New York set novel My Last Love Affair (Bancroft Billionaire Brothers Book 1): Grayson and Hannah by Ali Parker and this review was given freely.
A little twisted with a touch of irony, this is a good introduction to the large wealthy Bancroft family of six brothers and their matchmaking grandchild hungry mother.
Self centered power and business focused, emotionally closed and a bit crass, CEO of New York's Bancroft industries, Grayson Bancroft must put aside his paranoia regarding his brother Jack and his playboy ways to win the woman of his dreams, Hannah Adams, and keep the CEO/owner position that he covets.
Can be read as a standalone but best if read in series as it follows the evolving lives of the Bancroft family.
18+ recommended for steamy scenes.

*****Review of book 2:
3 stars
I purchased a copy of the steamy New York set novel Our Twisted Love Affair (Bancroft Billionaire Brothers Book 2):Jack and Natasha by Ali Parker and this review was given freely.
Poignant with some violence, a fair bit of angst, a manipulative and abusive father, a lot of steamy Alpha dominate scenes and a happy ending.
I liked the continued story line of the Bancroft family, the magnetic romance of Jack and Natasha as well as finally finding out the reason for the feud. Unfortunately, it felt like 50 % of the novel was steamy intimate scenes which overshadowed the story for me.
Socialite Natasha Levy and Jack Bancroft have a five year on again/off again romance in this modern day family feud/ best friend's younger sister romance with a pact to marry when Jack turns 35.
Can be read as a standalone but best if read in series as it follows the evolving lives of the Bancroft family.
18+ recommended for steamy scenes and violence.

***** Review of book 3:
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the steamy Manhattan set novel My First Love Affair (Bancroft Billionaire Brothers Book 3): Mason and Adelaide by Ali Parker and this review was given freely.
Wonderful characters with a fair amount of drama and steamy scenes fill the pages of this rocky romance where emotions run high, differing personalities and views continue to increase Mason's isolation from his family but ultimately the ending is heartwarming.
A hate to love relationships where two abrasive personalities mask loneliness and insecurities but an encounter involving some alcohol and a suddenly heightened awareness of each other leads to a steamy encounter setting the groundwork for wandering biker playboy Mason Bancroft to fall in love with his best friend's little sister's best friend, Sinclair's Coffee Shop owner Adelaide Sinclair.
Can be read as a standalone but best if read in series as it follows the evolving lives of the Bancroft family.
18+ recommended for steamy scenes.

I really struggled with this book. The premise was great, but the characters were very hard to like. The H was a total jerk 90% of the book and it made it very hard to like him, root for him, and understand why the h kept going back to a guy who essentially treated her like garbage. I was also not a fan of how weak the h was. The whole story, the characters kept reiterating how strong and independent she was, but that was not at all visible by her actions. She kept going back to a guy who treated her like trash, just because he was hot and the sex was good? I’m sorry, but even the hottest guy looses his attractiveness when he acts like a total tool. She needed a stronger backbone and to make him actually do some groveling. Also, his reasons for being a jerk were honestly pretty juvenile. Nothing all that major (in a bad way) happened to him, he had a cushy upbringing, he was just spoiled and petty. I also felt like there were several loose ends. Where was her family and why were they not close? No one seemed to question that she didn’t have a single family member at her wedding? What about the bad break up in college that was alluded to? Or why Jack felt she had some bad life experiences? What were they and how did they bring her to where she was in the story? I just don’t feel like the characters had much depth or that much of a real connection beyond sex. There were no deep conversations- everything was so superficial, yet they fell in love by looking past that, supposedly, but we are only told that, not shown that. I seriously struggled to finish this book.

What in the world did I just read? How this book has any good reviews is beyond me? Did we all read the same book?!?!? Grayson was a disgusting human being, let alone a "hero". He was God awful to Hannah. Treated her like absolute crap, jumped to conclusions, insulted her, and did everything a real hero would never freaking do! Hannah as a character isn't much better. She took everything he did to her and just let allowed it. Never fought back. Never made him grovel. She was his doormat. Here I was thinking she'd be a strong character with some backbone, but she wasn't. Grayson needs some serious help. Like the whole reason he hated Jack was for some bull shit thing that happened when they were literal children?!?!?! Give me a break. Grayson never apologized or even changed his behavior. The only decent thing about this book was the authors actual writing. Not the story she came up with but her actual writing. It flowed and was concise. I think I will read the other Bancroft brothers because they seem decent.

DNF… after reading what so many others said, I finally decided not to waste my time. I actually liked the storyline and was hoping to make it to the HEA. However, like in so many other stories, you have this woman who is supposedly independent, strong, and knows what she wants. For some reason, however, her behavior toward the MMC totally contradicts that. Because of his insecurity and trust issues, he treats her terribly, clearly doesn’t trust her, and no matter how many times she says she isn’t going to put up with him or that she’s going to move on, she just turns back to him and falls in his lap and everything‘s OK again. No groveling on his part, no sincere apologies, just a bossy and demanding alphahole needing a woman to give him an heir. There was nothing about his character that would have made her see the redeeming qualities, at least not at the 45% mark. He has talked to her terribly, demands to know about her life, but refuses to tell her anything about his background and why he has the fallout with his brother. This book could’ve been much shorter.

Loved the story

The story is an emotional rollercoaster with many ups and downs and you will be surprised at who cause the most drama in MY LAST LOVE AFFAIR.

Both Grayson and Hannah are CEOs and have the driven personalities that come with that. They enter into a fake relationship agreement because Grayson requires an heir to inherit his family company and Hannah needs a buyer to keep her company afloat.

Our couple excels in the carnal arts from words to deeds. It’s everything else that doesn’t work quite so smoothly. Without revealing the best parts of the plot, I can safely say I was as disappointed in Grayson as Hannah was, and as frustrated with Hannah as Grayson was. There was no shortage of well meaning friends (and stellar secondary characters) to keep figuratively ‘smacking them up along side the head’ but these two were headstrong, stubborn, driven, devoted and passionate about what mattered most to them.

Tissues? Yes. Enjoy the story.

Only the last 2% wa worth reading

I have been reading romance novels for 40 years and this lead male character has got to be the worst, the biggest douche and horrible lead I’ve ever read about in any book. Since when did broken jackasses become attractive as leads in a romance novel?I have no idea what the author was thinking!!!! it’s nice to not have them always clean cut and too perfect but this guy was just horrendous for almost 90% of the book. He just kept screwing up and doing stupid douchebag things. Sadly I couldn’t even like the lead female because she was so into him and everytime he screwed up, She forgave him so easily. She had no backbone. This was so hard to finish. I really skipped through so I could get to the review to make sure I had my say. when I first picked this. I was excited to read about the rest of the brothers, but I don’t think I can read anything else by this author, so sorry not for me.

Long and detailed

Let me start off by saying that I did like this story. I spent the 9 hours reading it to find the HEA. There were some good points to this book that made me keep going. That being said, I found some things that made it not always enjoyable.

This book had excessively detailed. Many scenes spent time describing things that didn’t enhance the storyline.

Unnecessarily long winded. Whoa. This story could use a good slashing. I am not an editor, but I was ready to get out a red pen to cross out redundancies and wordy sentences.

There was a conversation that was repeated between the MCs like the first one never happened. It was kind of important and made it feel less real.

Overall, I’m not sure if I will continue the series. This could have easily been told in less than 300 pages, not over 500.

Can't believe I finished it

I normally like strong alpha type males but Grayson is not one of those. He's controlling, manipulative and verbally abusive to Hannah. He used sex for manipulation and out right lied to her while being paranoid and suspicious of her and his brother. A narcissist at their finest. Hannah was suppose to be strong and independent but around Grayson she suddenly turned weak and not able to think straight so she always fell for whatever line he feed her and swooned over him.
I debated about even finishing the book because I was disgusted with how Grayson treated Hannah. Sure she left a couple times, but either he'd lie and to her and she'd take him back or she just couldn't stay away from him because she was *soo* in love with him and wanted to be the one to melt his ice heart.
I don't even want to continue to read about the other brothers.

Reluctant Love

Lifetime bachelor, head of the family and business and deal maker needs to seal the biggest deal of his life. The title tells you everything you need to know about the story. I can only tell you how the book made me feel. I always take the trope into consideration, and I can say that Ali hits the mark on this one. A man who needs a wife and baby to seal his place and legacy seems farfetched, but in this story it isn't. When I think the story is settling into a comfortable place, it takes a turn into chaos. While Ali takes us on this journey, all I keep thinking is please have a HEA. Yes, I want the couple together, because those times they are together, together make me happy. I like this story it has brother to brother tension, two great best friends and one feisty mother. It is an enjoyable read, and the spicy scenes are Grade-A.

This story was absolutely crazy-making. By the time it was all said and done, I still don’t know whether I want to strangle Grayson or Hannah more. The first half of the book, it was Hannah, the second half, Grayson took the crown. This book has the pair working through a whole lot of issues. And, while they’re entertaining to watch, it hurt my heart to see both of them struggling so hard to get it right. I don’t quite know what to say about this book. I hated it, I loved it. I laughed, I nearly cried. In so many ways my head is still spinning from the emotional roller-coaster I just experienced. I badly want to see the rest of the Bancroft boys get their happily ever afters now too.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.

If you skip from 20% to 50% you'll still get the whole story.

I feel like I need to explain the 2 stars. It's 200 pages too long with repetition galore. Greyson is a self created arsehole & I would've really appreciated a door being slammed in his face and his nose broken.

So yeah, if you're brave skip the middle section between the beginning and the 50 percent mark, you won't miss a lot besides a lot of repetition and you'll probably be able to rate this higher than I have.

That aside, story line is good. I'm intrigued to read the 2nd book because I do want to know Jack's story. The ending was solid. I just can't rate it higher, the repetition and bizarre repeats that seem like re writes with the old removed felt like a complete waste of time.

A steamy love story

Ali Parker always writes very steamy love stories, but this one almost gave me whiplash!
Firstly, its a log satisfying read. I dislike trite short stories.
Secondly, it veers violently from disaster to ecstacy almost in the same second.
Just when you are happy for the couple, he starts imagining weird things and wrecks everything.
Erotica from every angle is repeated so often that the most romantic reader will get their fill. It was too much for me.
His reasons for a complete inability to trust were so weak that I seriously questioned his maturity (despite being a billionaire), and his sanity. His jealousy was ridiculous! I am embarrassed to admit that I read every page. I am sure I could have spent my time more profitibly. Enjoyable.

DNF. First, this book needs to be proof read. Phrases like “that was not my attention” and “let our hair done”...how did they not catch that. Second, the main characters are horrible. I found Grayson to be a despicable asshat, condescending and abusive, not someone I would ever want to have the misfortune of meeting. I found Hannah to be a wishy washy doormat. She was described as a tough CEO of her company. How is that even possible given her personality and decision making? I would feel sorry and afraid for any children they might have.

What a waste of my time. I read a lot of books and usually do not judge them so harshly but this one was awful. I find the high rating of this book preposterous. I find it impossible to believe so many people actually finished this book and enjoyed it.

why did I just waste 3 hours of my life?

By 30% into the book I was skipping ahead not believing what I was reading. How can Ali Parker write such an unrealistic man? He was so infuriating I was skipping ahead just to get past the classic “misunderstanding” phase in a romance book that usually lasts a chapter or two but for some godforsaken reason lasted until like 80% in to this piece of work. I will admit the first few chapters as this book drew me in on this normal work day night so I was really really hoping the story would get better but instead Hannah continued to get mentally abused for the vast majority of the book. WHAT A WASTE!!!! I literally never leave reviews on books good or bad but this was absolutely ridiculous.

I have only read the first book in this boxed set but if all of the other brothers are as Charming as Grayson then I will love them all.
