A tale of mystery, family, and furry friends in a busy retirement community—includes instructions for the featured quilt! Sarah Miller, dedicated quilter and resident of the Cunningham Village retirement community, may be a senior but she’s still full of energy—which she puts into her beloved crafts and, sometimes, into solving crimes. Now she’s about to embark on some amateur detection as her dear friend Sophie encounters several major life changes—including two new family members and a job working with abandoned animals…
The Rescue Quilt was another fun book to read in this cozy mystery series. The characters have begun to feel like old friends to me by now. Just reading about the quilting makes me want to head to my sewing room as soon I finish the book, of course!
Try this interesting series and you'll be hooked. This book is one especially for dog lovers. It deals with pet rescues and finding forever homes for them. A very sweet story about pets, quilting, and a mystery. What more could you ask for!
The Rescue Quilt is one about our animal friends and as life continues to be good for Sarah and Charles. they find themselves in the midst of a mystery that involves their friend Sophie. I have loved Sophie throughout this series, she is funny, unpredictable and very very caring.
Sophie has volunteered to drive abandoned and unwanted animals to a shelter, where they will looked after.
Sophie finds a dog, dirty and seemingly 'asking for help'. When she follows the dog home she discovers a man lying in a pool of blood. Of course with everyone of these books there is no real violence, so as we discover the story of how and why the man died it gets very exciting if not a little sordid.
With Charles's experience in the law and her best friend Sarah, helping her keep sane, Sophie is trying to keep it together as she finds herself a suspect.
This book is amazing. It highlights the plights of our animals and show how the kindness of humans can make their lives better.
If you know quilting but not rescue work, this is perfect, it will educate you about many aspects of dog rescue. If, like me, you know rescue but not quilting, you may be, as I was, a little lost during the discussion of the quilting. But that’s not important to the plot. While the beginning had me wondering if this was meant for middle-school/teen/“young adult” ages, the investigation turned out to be interesting. The e-book had some typos (missing/wrong words, misspellings), but no more than is to be expected these days (unfortunately). As far as the writing goes, there were a few times I wasn’t sure who was speaking, a couple times someone is mentioned by name that I could swear hadn’t been introduced yet, I still don’t know what kind of dog Barney is, and I wish the author hadn’t chosen names that start with the same first letter for the 2 main characters. And I’m not at all clear on what exactly about this case made Charles make the decision he did. All minor things. I still enjoyed it. (It had dogs—being loved & well-treated—how could I not?!)
This was a cute story about families coming together from all walks of life and creating community. Including our pet family members too.
The great thing about these books is they are sometimes murder mysteries, just mysteries to solve and always leave you with a feel good feeling. I wouldn't mind living in Cunningham Village. It sounds like a great place!
This series are very inspirational to make a difference in this world by using gifts of love which is what quilts are. The characters are very personable and each have his or her struggle to overcome.
OK by now you should know I love this series and if you love a cozy that you can't put down and characters you will love then Carol Dean Jones books are for you getting book 8 now
As a dog lover myself, this episode touched my heart. Sophie is the main character and she does a great job. I love the new quilt and I might just have to make this one.
Very cute little cozy mystery book. Enjoyed reading about the rescue program due to my previous history of fostering and rescuing dogs myself. My mom is a quilter so that made the book ever better.
Enjoying this series. It includes young and older quilters alike, addressing the joys and tribulations of both. The mystery plot kept me guessing. These books include a quilt pattern at the end.
This is my first Quilting Cozy mystery. I enjoyed the characters who felt very real and “homey” and the mystery was good. I will read others in the series and recommend this one
I enjoyed this book as a distraction from the heavier topics I usually find myself reading. The story line is simple and predictable with few surprises, mostly at the end. There were a few typos that need to be corrected but that is just my literal reading coming out. I think the idea of making a quilt as a group and donating it to an animal rescue organization is a great idea. It would be a nice pattern for a real dog lover also and could be personalized many ways. Nice reading for a sunny Sunday afternoon.
As a quilter I love this series. Carol has managed to create completely different scenarios in each book while keeping the main characters. With each book the characters have grown and expanded their lifestyles. I highly recommend this series...
