It's true. He was the deadliest man in Georgia But after reading this book, you will know he was a lot more. He was the undisputed leader of "Georgia's Dixie Mafia". He set the standard for being a man's man. He had more compassion than any preacher of today's era. He had the integrity that today's politicians would give their right arm for. He was always a champion of the underdog. It wasn't that he took the law into his own hands, it was his sense of justice that he took into his own hands. His word was his bond. He would never disregard a man being cruel to animals, women or children. He was the undisputed best whiskey driver of all time. He owned the fastest whiskey car that was ever built by a man who was a legend in his own time, Gene Cromer. His athletic abilities were legendary and believe it or not he was the kindest, most generous man you could ever meet. I am proud to say he is my father. Billy Stonewall Birt
I bought this book from Billy's grandson Stone at the Rock Hard Distillery after thoroughly loving the In The Red Clay podcast. This book is a collection of stories from Stoney (Billy's son) and letters written by Billy from prison. Many of the stories were mentioned in the podcast but I enjoyed hearing them again. I was particularly touched by Billy's friendship with Jerome Bowden - his execution being one of the worst injustices in Georgia's history.
