Yellow is Chelsea Hui's debut collection of poetry, which was self-published by Chelsea in November of 2018. Yellow is a raw exploration of femininity and takes you on a journey through love, trauma, survival and healing. 'A love letter to her culture', as Chelsea likes to call it, Yellow encapsulates her struggles as a woman of colour and brings to life the experience of living between two cultures and what it means to call two countries home. It is a piece of work inspiring self-love, diversity and acceptance.

I really loved this! It had some super beautiful and impactful poems, and a lot of poems I could really relate to. It was also feminist (<3) and I loved the illustrations. Overall, this was a really great poetry collection!

This book arrived today and I finished reading it.

A lot of Chelsea’s poems are so relatable. I can see myself through her poetry which talk about family, love, racism, and feminism. Perhaps because there’s a similarity in our background.

Btw, some of them makes me miss my mom and my grandpa so much. I got my eyes teary reading few of her poetry.

It’s so touching, brave, full of hope, empowering and also heart warming 💕
Please pick this one up!!!

*Thank you Chelsea for gifting this collection to me.

While not all of them were my preferred style of poetry, I was able to sense a great feeling of care that went into putting together this poetry collection as a whole and I truly appreciated that.
The introduction to the reader at the start of this made a lot of it even more impactful and I think especially that introduction and the longer form poems gave a great taste of Chelsea Hui's talent and I would be super curious to see more of her work, maybe even a novel or non-fiction.
Shorter form poetry, two liners aren't often my taste, however the longer ones did impress me.
If you enjoy that style of poetry a lot, I would highly recommend this one

My favorite poems:
-My Body, My Rules
-Happily Ever After...
-Chink
-Yellow
-A Memory
-To the Women of My Life

“ My yellow, is amber.....Beautiful, and one of a kind “

Chelsea herself is a piece of precious gemstone, Amber. Through her poems, she tells us about herself, her family, love, hope, women of cultural upbringing ..... I hope she can fulfill her wish to inspire the young ones to put their experience into words.

I love her words “ One day, I will learn the world......Remember everything and regret nothing “

I love the illustrations too. The clever little drawings can bring us to her pictures of thinking.

What a beautiful collection of poems. Each read provides you with a new perspective and a deeper understanding of both the meaning of every piece, as well as yourself as a human being. Definitely a worth-while read.

I felt this book was a more tamed version of Milk and Honey with a sprinkling of the asian woman experience.
