This is only the third ‘Bedside Guardian’ I’ve read. It’s a great distillation of some of the best of the paper’s reporting from the last 12 months (although it doesn’t cover a calendar year it goes from autumn 2017 to the end of the summer this year to allow it to be bought as a present for Christmas). Every year a different journalist edits the book, this time it’s Lisa Allardice. It’s bookended by a couple of editorials about the future of journalism & reporting in times of crisis. Clearly Brexit & Trump loom large but it was a report on climate change - and the increased instances of cities hitting temperatures of 40°C (with estimates that some places could even hit 50°) - which scared the Bejayus out of me. I think we can safely safe that reading this book will be an annual tradition for me now.
A noice colloition of The Guardian articles from 2018, some great conversations and international coverage and yeah stuff about the Royal Wedding and Love Island and salad cream. Oh, you Brits.
