Anna Brown was nearly forty before she earned her college degree. When she has trouble finding a teaching position in St. Louis, she applies for a substitute's position at Casey's Institute, a juvenile detention center located in the Missouri Ozarks. Is it chance or God's will when a spring snowstorm prevents her from driving home? Dr. Michael Grant admits he made the wrong decision when he ignored the weather and took Anna to dinner. It's the first of many misunderstandings, and Michael's apologies aren't enough to truly earn Anna's forgiveness. Every time Anna gives the handsome administrator another chance, it seems he'll prove he's no different from any of the other men who have disappointed her. Michael can't help being intrigued by this tiny woman, whose behavior is so different than the ordinary. Though she admits she's afraid of animals, he offers her a job overseeing an experimental pet therapy program. Ignoring his self-imposed rule against fraternizing with those who work at Casey's, he finds himself seeking every opportunity to get to know her better. Overcoming a fear of dogs isn't Anna's only challenge. Some of the other women resent the special treatment she receives from Dr. Grant, and they'll do whatever they can to keep the two of them apart. It seems she has inadvertently made an enemy of at least one man as well, and he'll stop at nothing to come between her and Michael Grant. It takes a near crisis to open Anna's eyes to the truth about loyalty, from both animals and people. She's ready to swallow her pride, if Michael is willing to give her another chance. Michael blames himself for what happened - he should've shared his history in the beginning. Is it too late to tell her now, and ask her to give him another chance?
I enjoyed this second chance romance. It had a little bit of romance, a little bit of mystery and just had something going on all the time. It was a fairly fast read and I kept wanting to read more to find out what happened next. I rated this a 4.5 but almost wanted to put a 5 to it because it left me feeling so good at the end.
This a cute story even with more than a few typos. I found some areas a bit unrealistic like when Anna and Michael kiss for the first time near the beginning of the story. That was way too soon and could've been drawn out. The setting and character development could have used some more work but the storyline overall was interesting. I am hoping that the rest of the series will be more developed.
I loved the characters and the storyline. It had funny moments and intense moments. It really spoke to me about how young people can make bad choice and in up living a life they did not plan. The good part was making the most of what they had and then finding that someone you were meant to be with for the rest of your life. This story is just beginning. Thanks for the journey.
This was a page turner. Did not want to put it down. How refreshing to read a Christian based book. Loved the characters and realistic and unfortunately drama any setting such as this has.
Life is like a roller coaster, lots of ups and downs. We each carry baggage and we take it wherever we go. Sometimes it can interfere with a current relationship.
Today I tried to read Another Chance by Diane Lil Adams, but unfortunately, I had to put it down at Chapter 3. This story starts off slow, with lots of “getting to know you” dialogue. It was hard to suspend belief that a man who had dedicated his life to the rehabilitation of wayward teens would make so many exceptions to his strict regiment for a woman he had just met and wasn’t his type. It doesn’t sit well that he decides to throw caution into the wind. As for Anna: there was never any kind of deliberation in her mind before accepting a position that she was adamant against taking because of her fear of animals. The whole book starts off pretty unrealistic.
Proofreading perspective: There are way too many unnecessary commas and an incorrectly formatted quotation mark in the first two chapters.
The story itself was kind of cute, but the writing felt rushed and a little sloppy, and I just don't buy into the whole 'I knew the second I saw you' bit...maybe I'm just more mature than the women she bunked with, but there was a little too much there too
The message of this book is to live your life as much as you can, within God's plan.
The book seems to be aimed at young adults , with a strong message to be faithful to the Lord. Anna 's age in the book is 30 but despite a marriage and 2 adult children, she seem much younger. She's seeking to teach, but is offered a job working with young criminals trading rescued dogs as service dogs. She is drawn to the head of the prison/school and they fall in love.
A love story of adults. Anna, a widowed mother of two, arrives an hour late for a job interview at a private institution where wealthy troubled children and teens can serve time rather than go to prison or reform school. She must face many fears as she discovers and follows God's plan for her life, including where the handsome headmaster fits in.
I have never read this author before but I took a chance and now I'm hooked. This story was well told and I was sorry to see it end. The characters are well developed and the physiologic details. The story felt with adults mostly in a reform s book I would have liked more about the kids and the dogs kinda like pit bulls and parolees but with kids
this book showed how forgiveness of self allows second chances to bring new joy. there is joy in accepting God's forgiveness and our own. in doing so we are able to accept the flaws of others more readily and show mercy
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It took place in an interesting setting. Some of the twists could only take place in a fictional setting but it was a sweet summer read. I would recommend the book and the author.
I enjoyed every page of this book! It is a sweet story of God's love and how it overflows to others when we stay within His will. A good read for anyone who likes Christian romance books. Ms. Adams cleverly teaches Christian principles without sermonizing.
This book encouraged us to remember they God always gives us another chance. Anna, age 50, lacked self confidence because of her height and her opinion that she was homely. She soon realized that the way to happiness rested at her work place,
This was the first book I read by this author and I loved it. The story hooked me from the beginning and I just liked everything about it. I'll definitely be reading more by this author.
