The Autobiography of Bernadette Roberts outlines her contemplative spiritual journey and her psychic and psychological experience which she interprets as her union with God. This is a story of a 20th century mystic whose spirituality keenly resembles Buddhism and that of Meister Eckhart, Jacob Bohme and other Christian mystics. Bernadette was raised by deeply religious parents, but her mystical conversion led her to a totally different direction from her formally Christian religion much to the chagrin of her parents. This is a compelling story albeit it the mystical states that the author experienced are beyond the grasp of most readers.
