An angel falls,
A phoenix rises.

The words “I’ve been through Hell” are usually just a figure of speech. For Phenex, they’re all too literal. As the devil’s right hand, he spent eons in the Pit, but when a witch with a vendetta against all angels - Fallen or otherwise - snares him Phenex learns that Hell is very different from the other side.

Time flows more quickly in the underworld, and too many years of torment in darkness and silence have turned Phenex into something unrecognizable. Something broken.

Luckily for him, he has an angel on his side.

Caila. The only bright spot in the perpetual darkness, and the only thing holding the fragile strands of Phenex’s sanity together. With no one but each other, old loyalties and grudges are forgotten as something deeper begins to grow.

Bonds forged in the fire are always the strongest.

The Devil never forgets his own, but escaping Hell doesn’t mean the worst is over. The lines between the worlds are blurring, and the darkest creatures from humanity’s nightmares are awakening.

Hell brought them together. Hell ripped them apart.

And Hell is still waiting.

Warning: Phenex contains dark themes and adult content and is recommended for readers age 18+.

Some scars will never heal. But they do fade.

What another simply fabulous read from the amazing Ava Martell !!! I so love everyone of these characters! Humans may be flawed but so are gods heavenly angels and his fallen as well. The storytelling by this writer is so fabulous and I have enjoyed all three of her books in this series. In this book we pick up with both phenex and Caila being saved from the witch brielle. The time they spent captive and tortured has brought them together, but they both are scarred not only physically but mentally as well. Before they could stop brielle she opened up the gates to hell and six of the most deadly fallen have escaped and they intent to over throw not only the world but also heaven as well. So it's up to lucifer and the others to close down the gates and send these fallen angels back to hell were they belong.I hope that their will be more books in this series,it's been one of my favorites. I love the storyline and a unique twist on the heaven and hell theme, quite entertaining!💖💋
Up next is Grace, coming in july!!! More of grace and lucifer's story!! Can't wait!

Phenex is such an interesting character!

I am loving this series. Each book is furthering the adventure on Earth, and our little group of Angels and the Fallen is getting larger. These are stories of good vs. evil but the funny thing is that it is not your traditional good vs. evil (i.e. Heaven vs. Hell).

God is absent in heaven and the Angels in heaven are either apathetic since the war with Lucifer, going crazy like Uriel, followers of Uriel, or Power hungry like Metatron, who was once the scribe of God, but was the last angel to talk to God. Now he rules over other Angels like he is giving orders from God, but the orders are not in line with Gods orders from before the war. So it seems like God is just gone and Metatron thinks he can take over.

In The last book Archangel, Michael, Elissa, Lucifer and Grace were able to free Phenex and Caila from the evil witch Brielle who captured them and abused them in Hell for Months. Brielle was killed but she had opened up a bunch of portals in Hell before she died and now the rest of the fallen and a bunch of demons are escaping, so it is up to our group to stop it.

The adventure is awesome as the group works together. Lucifer and Phenex are Fallen Angels, Michael and Caila are both Angels though they have been on Earth for a while and haven’t exactly been doing things that heaven approves of. Elissa is an immortal witch who is Michael’s girlfriend, and Grace is ‘The Last’ in the line of people with holy blood and is the love of Lucifer’s life.

The love story between Phenex and Caila is sweet and passionate. The characters are all well developed and new characters are being added to the ongoing storyline. I am excited for the next book Grace. Looks like we are going back to her story a bit. Hopefully we will find out more about her powers and if she is immortal. I also want to hear more about Archangel Gabriel who has been missing. I have a feeling I know where he is but don’t want to give it away.

I like this series a lot. We get to see a different fight between good and evil, just not the good and evil we all know from myths and stories.
Our group once more survived despise all chances and I just love the small family formed here: Lucifer/Grace, Michael/Elissa and Phenex/Caila.They only have eachother in the battle against true evil and their friendship and camaraderie is palpable.
So why 3***?
The couple of this book seemed like a secondary part here. The narration was told from Phenex and Caila POVs but little do anything have to do with them. It fely like this was more of an intro to more depth in Lucifer and Grace next book. Sure, we get to read about Phenex fears ,torments and regrets, about Caila's inner turmoil , but it still felt very secondary.I wasn't convinced that their newfound love isn't just like a PTSD mechanism after all that happened to them in Hell in the second book.
The new characters introduced spiked up my curiosity , and I want to know where Gabriel is? Whats going to happen now that Raphael is in the game?

Overall this was a good read thanks to the engaging plot, action and the promise of more secrets reveled, because definitely this is not over.

Book 3 gives us the story of Lucifer's right-hand man/archangel – Phenex and archangel Caila. Phenex has, along with Caila, been brutally tortured within hell, and since time moves differently there (think of Dean’s time in hell in tv show Supernatural), he is now completely broken and Caila is the only one that can truly reach him. The two having formed a strong bond through their shared experiences.

Caila is not one of the Fallen, but she no longer has a place within the gates of heaven, the other angels in their bitterness and disgust at the bonds she has made with the Last, the witch, the devil and his right-hand, now wish her dead and/or pain. Luckily as she realises heaven is no longer home, she gains another. The comradeship between Michael, Elissa, Grace, Lucifer, Phenex and Caila was lovely to see, they’ve created a home and family, without meaning to, their bonds strong. It was great catching up with previous characters, Lucien and Grace remain my favourite couple and I would like to see more of them.

In turn, I liked the fact that Phenex’s torment was palpable, you can’t help but feel for him, that being said the emotional intensity I was hoping for wasn’t there. I also wanted more development when it came to the relationship between Caila and Phenex, I finished this book feeling like something was missing. Plus, thematically this is very similar to the previous books, I wanted something a little different to what had come before.

Overall this was a nice read, but I don’t think I’ll pick it up again (unlike book 1) but I do want to read the next book in the series, and I’m hoping it will give me something a little different to what has come thus far.

If it is your first time reading this series, I would recommend starting at the beginning.

"For the world. For this strange little family that's sprung up out of loss and vendettas. Maybe even for himself. " - Phenex with thought to Lucifer

This is book three in the series and each one just gets better.
Phenex is fighting to find his way back from the darkness
Caila is healing but she too recognizes the marks left on her soul.
Lucifer is questioning his decisions.
Grace is still adapting to the onslaught of Lucifer's memories.

Our little mixed up motley crew is intact - if not a bit worse for wear.
They may have rescued Phenex and Caila but Lucifer's absence and the opening of the portals seem to be just the right combination to spur his Fallen brethren to seek out and further their own sinful desires.
These are not just any Fallen they are the vilest of Hell's prisoners and now they are on Earth looking to claim their own kingdoms.
Question is will they just stop at the destruction of Earth or are they also eyeing the pearly gates?

Phenex was so much more in this episode. I'm not sure how to explain him. He was a presence in the previous stories, he was Lucifer's right hand, he was a traitor even, but I never felt like I knew his character, until now. He stepped off the edge willingly, he wasn't pushed. I never really thought about that before and how much different his perceptions would be because of that.
I understand more why he thought Urial was a good idea.

Caila and he are the perfect match.
Neither is truly Fallen but neither is welcome home either.
They both chose free will and now they are facing the consequences of that decision.

This is such an entertaining series
Each new episode adds more layers to the story line.
New twists that present new possibilities, even small revelations change the course of events dramatically.
And the possibilities - Devilishly intriguing!
I have to ask myself though -
What is Metatron's end game?
Why the sudden shift upstairs?
And who is cleaning up this mess?

As the third book in the series based on characters that weren’t my favourite in the first two books I was especially surprised by the emotive quality to this story. Phenex and Caila make a compelling couple- having both been tortured by a grief mad witch and subjected to the whims of hell these two are damaged but not broken and find solace with each other. This is a book of healing and I shed more than a few tears along the way.

The authors poetic writing style coupled with religious twists and a constant flipping of good and evil, this book built on stories in the bible but added moral quandaries and I was as in love with lucifer and grace in this novel as in previous. Michael as heavens guard dog turned rogue was also a key feature- showing what happens when your whole life is up-ended.

Inter-personal relationships and very submersible emotions are where this author truly excels. You start the novel and then 4 hours have passed and you are left altered by the story. This novel and these characters will stay with me and I am exited to read the next instalment.

This book is as good as the first two. The development of the storey as well as the history of the character's in the first two books makes for an interesting read. Can't wait to see where the 4 book goes. It would be nice to see more focus on Grace and Lucifer's tale as it continues.

This series from Ava Martell has kept me on my toes with every book that has come out. Phenex is not the exception to that rule.

Phenex was Lucifer right hand practically. He followed him down from Heaven and he got trapped in hell being tortured by a true monster.

Caila was an Angel, caught by the monster to make Phenex torture even more painful. What the monster didn't know was that her days were accounted for.

The books in this series made me think about my religion. They don't change my perspective but they do make me think and that's always good.

My concepts of Heaven and Hell had been re-thought over and over. Every new book has a new thing to teach me and I'm thrilled for that to happen.

It's a different way to look at things and I love it. That's why I can't hold back when there's a new book out in the series.

I would highly recommend this book and the whole series. I just plain adore the way the author makes me see things and feel things with the story, sprinkling romance in the middle of it.

Would you want to be in an ideal world if there was no free will?
The ideal world would be called heaven and all offenders would be sent to hell.
If you can’t love who you want, it would be a tainted world.
The choices made by the fallen or not-fallen are inevitable.
In the end it’s all about balance between dark and light. There can’t be one without the other.
This book had a viewpoint of that culture that really rocked my world.
Because an idealism needs sacrifice too. And love might be what changes everything!

In the beginning of the book there were a few repeats which kind of annoyed me while reading. But I guess some points have to be made multiple times to grasp the importance of those facts.
I received a copy through Hidden Gems and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Phenex is in Hell being tortured by a witch determined to destroy Heaven and the angels that call it home. When he and Caila are finally freed from their cell and returned to the human world, it will take time for Phenex to leave the darkness and find his way back into the light.
Wow! Angels, not all of whom are fallen, an immortal witch, and Lucifer's girlfriend, also called the Last, will fight to close the rifts allowing demons, and the worst of Hell's denizens, to protect humans. Exciting, action packed battles, magic, with a cast of unique, well written, and fascinating characters. Fantastic book, I loved it, and highly recommend this read.

A Cut And A Half Above The Ordinary

This book, and its other two companions in the series, is amazing. I expected a satisfying paranormal romance with the usual features--impossibly beautiful males, delectable sexual scenes and a pleasantly intriguing plot line. This series, however, audaciously takes on profound and timeless concepts that have occupied and vexed theologians and philosophers since the beginning of Humanity. Free will, sin and punishment, damnation, atonement and redemption. Complex and fascinating figures populate these books, brought to life by an author who loved and understands her creations and has built around them a living landscape wherein they have been cast adrift by a Father Deity who seems to have abandoned them. I highly recommend that the books be read in order. But read them!!!

WOW!!!

I started book 1 two days ago and just finished book 4. Wow!!!! So hard to find the one author who captures that special blend of great writing, creativity, love for their story and characters and the joy of being a part of it. This author is excellent at showing you around the world of the war between heaven and hell right here on earth. Love love love the writing, the story line, the characters and the detail information to help you understand it all with out losing you to boredom in the explanation as many writers do. I am so excited to read the next books in this series. Wink....I hope for many more books

Please be sure to read Lucifer and Archangel before reading Phenex. Phenex and Caila are safe now that Brielle is gone, for now. But what happens when the plans she set in motion before her death start to take place? Can the unlikely group fend off this latest attack? Will Heaven help?
I really liked this book. It definitely gave some answers to why Phenex did some of the things he did. Caila was great! I liked that she never gave up. I’m hoping there will be more books in this series!

I didn't know that this book had been released. I loved the first two books in this series and it has quickly become one that I really enjoy reading. I would recommend that you read Lucifer and Archangel before diving in this book. I loved the characters, how things progressed and I took my time reading this because I didn't want it to end. Ava Martell has done it again with this one. I can't wait for the next book and this time I will be keeping a look out for it. 5 very deserved stars.

Another excellent entry in the Fire from Heaven series! I really liked both Phenex and Caila, and I loved how the prior stories (about Lucifer and Michael) kept unfolding during this one. I don't want to give any spoilers so I'm not going to say much about the plot.

I'm so glad the series is continuing!

Another good read

And so all He'll is let loose - literally. And a sacrifice is needed to save humanity from the consequences of their sin... Great theological themes lie behind the latest episode of this compelling series. But can Michael, Lucifer and a reluctant Raphael win when the gates of Hell open?

I can't wait until the next book!

The continuity of telling the story of these characters is spot on. They are quite the group, but you find yourself falling for them all. The best trilogy that I've read, and can't wait for the next installment.

This is a fabulous series with a well constructed theme. I love each of the characters, they seem so real you cannot help forming a connection with them. Each and everyone of them has a story to tell and I love the twist in how even heaven can become corrupt.
I don't know where or how far this will go but I am happy to hold on tight and see where fate takes us.

This is a good continuation of this series. Phenex and Caila meet in Hell and form a bond. They would give up but they don't.

The first couple of chapters were hard to figure out where in time you were because it bounced around but it got easier after that.

With each new book in this series, we learn a little bit more about every one of these characters, and the more I love them all! This author is awesome in her storytelling, investing the reader (me), heart & soul, in the discovery of who these heroes are and how they feel about each other and the world they live in. I can't get enough! Love, love, love! Can't wait for more!
