This is a good zombie novel. It takes the position that some kind of contaminated meat is what leads to people become zombies initially.
Chas is 14 and she and a couple friends are at a festival/carnival when she notices that a lot of people seem to be sick. They progress to the zombie stage, attacking other people violently. Chas and her friends have a difficult time escaping the festival. They then plan to get to their homes and see how their families are doing and that presents another level of danger.
The military is involved is getting people to a supposedly safe area.
Not all of her friends will make it to the end of the book. I think the story is well done and the characters are interesting. It's actually the first zombie book I've read and it's good enough that I plan to continue reading the series.
On her fourteenth birthday Chas and het friends Emily and Valerie are going to the fair. This is the first time that Chas is allowed to go without parental supervision. The girls are excited to try out all the rides and can't wait to get on the first one. Chas notices a lot of people who appear to be ill. They look very pale and have red rimmed eyes. Are the girls on danger of catching the flu or is something else going on?
Chas is a very perceptive teenager. She takes in her surroundings and has attention for details. This made her the natural leader of their little group. It'll take a lot of them all to get out of the danger zone and to find somewhere safe. They don't even know if their family's are still alive so they start their challenging journey to get back home.
I absolutely loved this group of teenagers. They're resourceful and have a drive to stay ahead of the zombies. I've read almost every book written by Baileigh Higgins and I've never not loved any single one of them. I think she's an absolute brilliant writer. When I'm searching for a good zombie story I know I can't go wrong with any of her series. She always gets me hooked from the start and The Undead Adventures of Chas is another binge worthy serie with a blood chilling start.
And action-packed trek through the zombie apocalypse
Action packed from beginning to end. A great cast of characters and an extraordinary story. Three teenage girls go to the fair to enjoy one of their birthdays and spend time together. Only one small problem unbeknownst to them the zombie apocalypse is beginning. Join them as they track through the zombie apocalypse trying to find their families and safety Intense emotional and well written. You feel the emotion in each character as they battled their way home. People are dying around them they are having to kill people who have turned the zombies. Who will make it and who will not. Redone to find out. You will not be disappointed and you will not put it down
You can't get wrong with a zompoc from Baileigh Higgins. Her characters are well described, not flawless but growing with the challenge. Here we have 3 teenage girls (14 years old) who have to face humanity going downhill with a fast spreading zombie virus turning everyone including animals! Book 1 is a solid story with all the right ingredients: a strong female lead, friends & family bonds that get you through everything, the army, good or bad, and even a little bit of romance. Oh yes, and zombies. Not too much gore, just enough. While it doesn't end on a cliffhanger, the story will continue.
I was a bit sceptical about this YA zombie novel as I'm 45 years older than the protagonists and don't think I really belong to the target audience but that was a fun and fast paced novel that I really enjoyed. Chas and her friends are surprised by an outbreak while wanting to celebrate her 14th birthday at a fair. They escape and search for their relatives fighting their way through a small town whilst being attacked by former humans and even animals (!). In a dramatic escape from the hospital where Chas' mom works as a nurse they finally get to safety at a military base. A real page turner that was and I look further for book 2
"Red Rock was a quiet little town..." It was Chas' 14th birthday - 'practically a grown up' - and for the very first time she, and her two girlfriends were going to the fun fair on their own. What starts as fun soon becomes a nightmare : "A zombie apocalypse and we're right in the middle of it." As the ravenous hordes multiply madly the friends try to find their way home. An exciting YA sfory, albeit with the usual unanswered questions (like how can someone totally devoured by the cannibalistic hordes still regenerate?) with thrills and horrors aplenty. A quick and easy read. Good fun.
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. A refreshing story of wanting a night out with friends, but… Chas, Vanessa, and Emily want to celebrate a birthday, but it is the birth of something else. A romp through town, to grandmother’s house we go. A lot happens, not all good. A story from a younger person’s perspective and coping with the end of the world as they knew it. Maybe they should have had the party at home. Join the party, you are invited. Read it, becauser there is more to come.
Another winner from Baileigh Higgins. This is a tale of Chas, Vanessa and Emily, three young girls out to celebrate Chas's 14th birthday at a local carnival. While atop of the Ferris wheel, zombies attack and the girls must rely on themselves to get to safety. This is the story of their survival and of those they meet along the way. Well written with great characters and lots of hang onto your seat action.
This book was a page turner, all through...I will never tire of watching the zombie apocalypse begin, from the very first sickly looking individual...the chapter involving the Ferris wheel scenes...absolutely brilliant...can’t say enough for that specific writing...this book never let up for a page from the tense, zombie caused stress once the nasty ,hungry buggers first begin to appear!
It was great story. Even how a 14 year old learn and make it with her friends during a zombie apocalypse that just started and make it all over the place is amazing and unbelievable crazy! But I love it and baileigh can heart stopping ya reads let me tell! Absolutely love her writing! Can't wait for more on their journey with their new world!
How would you handle an invasion of zombies busting up your 14th birthday celebration? Chas does a bang up job, proving age is just a number. These kids when forced to group to survive do better than most adults would. Higgins does a great job at showing just how we underestimate ourselves and what we can handle in the face of adversity. Can't wait to read the book.
I couldn't put this down. Every chapter had something going on. I just can't help but keep reading. Very good book of the end of the world with zombies. Really can't wait to read the next book. Hope chas and her friends can make it some how but u will have to wait and see who does and it's crazy.
Another brilliant start to a new series from this writer! Love the story, characters & writing style! Gets your attention & keeps you reading to find out what's going to happen next! Can't wait for the second book! Anybody that likes zombie adventures, this is for you!
This is great introduction to a new YA Zombie series by Baileigh Higgins. Chasity and her group are funny and kick zombie a**. I loved all the differing elements compared to other zombie books like what happens to animals and how the disease is spread. I can't wait to read the next book.
Another great book! I stayed up late reading about chas and her friends.this is a real page turner. Patiently awaiting the next book! There is so much excitement packed into this book.
I enjoyed this book very much. I really liked that it was written from a teenager's point of view. I also liked that it was set at the beginning of the outbreak.
I'm a pretty hardcore zombie apocalypse fan and I have enjoyed a number of Baileigh Higgins' books. However, I feel that this story lacks character development and is not very believable.
Wow another great from this superb writer. Chasity and her friends are celebrating her fourteenth birthday when the Zombies attack. Survival is the utmost in their minds. Gripping.
So i finished this book in a couple of days. It was pretty good as far as zombie apocalypse books 📚 go.. I'll read the rest of the series later. Some of the situations that Chas and her friends got into seemed so harrowing and impossible but they still made it out unscathed which seemed so unreal but it was still a great book. I rated it 4 stars bc of that and bc sometimes it didn't have enough detail. But there was still enough detail to picture it and get the gist of what was being portrayed in the story. Great book. Enjoyed it. Give it a try!!
