She Reads Truth is a worldwide community of women who read God's Word together every day. Founded in 2012, She Reads Truth invites women of all ages to engage Scripture through curated daily reading plans, as well as online conversation led by a vibrant community of contributing writers. This community of “Women in the Word of God every day” represents a long list of cities and countries, a variety of backgrounds and traditions, and countless real-life stories. But there is a commonality that binds us: we believe God's Word is Truth. So we read. Every day we read a new passage together—working our way through books of the Bible, topics that matter, and seasons of the Church calendar. We engage with God's Word and with each other. And we keep coming back, on the hard days and the good days, because God and His Word never change, regardless of our circumstances.
I'm really thankful my best friend ordered this devotional for me! I loved reading scripture highlighting the coming of Jesus during 2018's advent season.
My fourth completed She Reads Truth Study—I enjoyed the journaling once again. I loved the part about the seasons of the Church which I sort of knew about but not to that detail. Would be fun to start these old traditions this new year!
Seasons of the Church: 1. Epiphany Season: January 6 through the day before Ash Wednesday (lighting candles to represent Christ as the light of the world) 2. Lent: Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday (abstaining from something for the 40 days of Lent) 3. Easter: Easter Sunday through the day of Pentecost, a seven week period (displaying flowers as a way to symbolize new life in Christ) 4. Pentecost: the seventh Sunday after Easter (reading the account of Pentecost in Acts 2 and singing hymns) 5. Advent: Four Sundays before Christmas Day and Dec 24 (setting out an advent wreath with candles to mark the four Sundays of Advent) 6. Christmastide: December 25 to January 5—aka the 12 days of Christmas (exchanging gifts as a way to recognize the gift of Jesus for our salvation)
This was a great study to do in fellowship! Nothing super insightful, but some great seasonal connections from Old/New T. My favorite 2 things about this read were that 1. each day, we had a mix of Old and New T. scriptures to read, with simple reflection prompts; and 2. the new year reflection at the end. Thoroughly enjoyed the reflection, and it was a great way to go into 2019.
I always love the Scripture passages, recipes, crafts, and songs that She Reads Truth compiles in their studies, but I especially enjoyed this book because of the additions of the reflection questions and prayer prompts.
