Originally published in enigma magazine, this witty, wicked compilation of articles will strike a cheeky chord with a generation of young Arab women who suspect there's more to life than playing nice and being good.
As per "What Women want" on the back cover of the book, "Fe-mail is the Arab world's answer to sex and the city"!!!.. oh u did NOT say this.. sex and the city??.. really!!
It was obvious Amy's desperate trials 2 be the Egyptian Carrie Bradshaw, can't blame her, I bet every single female writer is inspired by Carrie Bradshaw in a way or another, Amy herself mentioned it couple of times in her book, but she kinda failed in this, not just coz comparing any1 2 Carrie Bradshaw in SATC is a lost cause, but coz Amy mostly failed 2 deliver a witty, entertaining, provoking, funny and interesting articles abt relationships and her "struggle" 2 be a good Egyptian girl...
But liked some articles, and it was kinda weird how Amy was a bit insecure abt her looks considering herself not-so-pretty and not-so-popular compared 2 her brother 4 example, she got me there, seemed so down 2 earth speaking abt this -we mesh 3aysha eldoor- althou she's the managing Editor of EniGma mag..
Wished it was better than this, she had it in her, but the book 1st struck me as being extra trivial & stupid & all abt living an extravagant life in a struggling country, but then it got better, it's okay :)
Loved it! Hilarious and fun the author has a real way with words. Read it in one sitting, and ached from laughing so much - a fantastic first effort from an author who has a lot of potential. Hopefully next time she'll give us a novel. Would reccomend this book to any Egyptian girl who has trouble being good!
I EFFING HATED IT... It's SO PHONY!! I could not relate to one single story!! THAT is so NOT the Egyptian girl... seriously, partying all the time? Dressing according to brands... interviews, socializing with the "elite", and gossiping about them all the time? Wasting time husband-hunting? Come on, woman... GET A LIFE!! Such a large empty head who thinks she's an Egyptian!! Or even a journalist... and she thinks she's witty and humorous too!! I WANNA SHOOT MYSELF for ever having touched that so-called book!! YUCK! I would rather have my 50 pounds back... I'm SO TIRED OF AUTHOR "WANNA-BE"S!!
LOVED IT! LOVED IT! A side-splitting page turner. The only downside was that it was so short... I came across the book by chance in Diwan, sat down in their cafe and didn't put it down until I finished it a couple of hours later. Very smart and wittily written, looking forward to more from this Egyptian writer!
