Calamity

Rate this book
The first night our eyes met, my life was flipped upside down.
After a celebration with my best friend that resulted with a vicious attack, I was left questioning my very identity.

Who was Luna Russo, and why did I feel like such an intruder in her body?

The new life I built around what remained of myself began to crumble when a stranger walked through the door of my bakery.
A man who knew all of my secrets.
A man who reminded me of a painful night I'd rather forget.
And despite every ounce of my being warning me against it, I found myself trusting this man, believing in him.

With a heartbreaking past of his own, could love triumph even in the darkest of places?

CAUTION: This book contains triggers with mature situations and strong language.

Calamity was an interesting read. At times it was emotional. The plot line was unique. And the author had great story to tell. It just lacked something to make it great.

An emotionally charged, dramatic read, that delivers on every single page!
Luna experiences the worst night of her life and it changes everything, in fact, it changes who she is as a person. Thrust into a world of pain, fear, shame, and intolerable anger she is broken and withdrawals into her herself as a means of self-preservation. She cannot see her way, out nor can she envision a time when she will not be consumed by her memories of that night and its aftermath. She gives up a bit more each day that she will ever be able to regain her sense of self, or a chance at real happiness. She thinks by receding deeper and deeper into her own misery that she is somehow sparing those she loves the pain of what has happened to her.
Liam has had the worst kind of life. His grandparents did their best to try and shield him from the worst of it, but they were gone too soon. The person a child should be able to depend upon the most is not only not there for him, but openly tells him he has ruined her life every single day. He has been abused mentally, physically, and emotionally for as long as he can remember by his mother. He ended up seeking out a sense of belonging from a notorious gang. Because of his mother, he truly believes he is worthless and yet he still finds it within him to care for her, to take on one dangerous risk after another to protect her.
An unexpected turn of events sheds light on Luna’s worst nightmare & Liam finds himself in a position to protect her. What he did not expect was how deeply he would feel that need to protect her and how that need would turn into something even more. Their lives are at a crossroads- do they let go of all they knew from their pasts to embrace a chance at a future? Can they allow themselves the opportunity to trust, and to love themselves enough to recognize love from another?
This book has it all, excitement, emotional turmoil, angst, and suspense! As a reader it is one of those books that you find yourself racing towards the end, while simultaneously not wanting it to end. I loved Liam’s character. He is deeply damaged by his upbringing, yet has it in him to love, and love deeply. He has had to do things he is not proud of, but he makes no apologies for surviving. Luna is also damaged but coming together somehow helps each of them to heal. They find strength in one another. I loved his quiet way, something about that makes him swoon worthy! Luna can come across as judgmental and somewhat of a brat at times, but she has been through so much that as a reader you excuse it.
The mothers in this book! Oh my Gosh they are not what one would expect at all. Liam’s mother’s confession while heartbreaking was a bit too little too late and Luna’s mother reaction when she learns the truth is not ok at all! I ended up despising her character because of it!
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good read. This book is deeply satisfying on many levels and will not disappoint.

Wow. From the beginning to the end this story had me on my toes! Luna and Liam had this pull to each other ever since they first met in the club the night it all started. I could not stop turning the pages. I always wanted to know what was going to happen next! Amazing twists and turns that you did not see coming. I will need more Luna and Liam in the future!

Luna has experienced the worst night of her life. Everything changes in her life and she is trying to get past the pain, shame and anger from that night's events. Liam walks into her store and brings even more change. These two had painful pasts to overcome. A lovely read that I enjoyed to the last page.

I received a copy of this book and am leaving a review.

This book is about Liam and Luna. The story starts very dark and on a touchy subject. It continues with raw emotion. It’s a book that keeps you coming back to see what’s going to happen. You just can’t help but root for Liam and Luna to have a happy ending
