First of all, I would like to point out that I do know the author of this book. But I write story critiques for a living and I would only ever write an honest review, even if it didn't place the author's work in a good light.

Review:

Like any poetry book, this one is a tough sell. You either like poetry or you don't. I'm not a huge fan of poetry books, so I was pleasantly surprised when I read this book. It appealed to my love of philosophical thinking and religion. I've already fallen in love with the "Psychic" poem, I've always been fascinated by the paranormal. The author does take little digs at religion, but I didn't feel offended by anything.

Some of the poems didn't speak to me, but poetry is personal to each individual - we can't love them all.

I've read other work by this writer and have found that this poetry book provides an interesting insight into the author's personal life and what inspires his work. I think it's a shame the author didn't write a little introduction to some of the poems as it would place his poetry in the context of living with mental health issues.

I deducted one star because the title of each poem can be a little hard to read due to the use of underlining. It's not a major issue, it does get easier to read after a couple of poems.

Overall, I think this is a great debut book. I look forward to seeing more of his work!
