Pickle Licker

Rate this book
He had it. I wanted it.
And that's how it ended up in my mouth.
Oh, get your mind out of the gutter, will you? I'm not talking about THAT!
All I did was give it a little lick. Okay, fine, I may have shoved the whole thing in my face. Not my finest moment, but hey, the guy deserved it. At least now Saul Stryker knows I exist.
Why is he always hanging around here anyway? Smelling like bottled sin, looking way too hot while he casually raids my fridge. Just because his business partner is my roommate, Stryker acts like he owns the place. Well, he can't just help himself to whatever he wants, whenever he wants it!
So what am I, the invisible girl?
That's it - bring on the coal, I'm done being nice!
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
For f***'s sake, it was just a pickle!
Why is this chick going all Bad Santa on me? One minute I'm having lunch with Perry and next thing I know, his weirdo roommate is hijacking my kosher dill and slurping on it like a demented bloodhound.
Da-amn.
Is it wrong that I may have been slightly turned on by the way she was deep-throating that thing?
This could get interesting. Because now I'm looking beyond the berets, Uggs and tacky Christmas sweaters, and noticing Jayne Pritchett for the first time.
I gotta say, I'm liking what I'm seeing.
And now all I want is for the little pickle licker to notice me.

Contains sexual situations (obviously), adult language (naturally), and possibly a few inappropriate references to garden vegetables. Just sayin'.

Born and raised in rural Alabama, Allie Gail currently resides in sunny Florida with her very own blue-eyed Prince Charming and a hyperactive hamster named Toot-Toot. Always an avid reader, she took to her keyboard on a whim in 2012 and that was the last anyone ever saw of her. (Just kidding...I did venture out of the house that one time back in 2014, but only because I was tricked into it. Stupid hurricane.)

Her genres of choice are rom-com and paranormal romance, featuring goofy but headstrong heroines and the sexy, snarky men who love them. When she isn't busy obsessing over the lexicon of her latest project, Allie can usually be found snuggled up to her hubby watching cheesy B-movie horror, helping out with the family business or playing online RPG games while indulging her hopeless sugar addiction.

Fun facts – she loves the sound of thunder, can't stand coffee, is known to randomly start laughing in her sleep, and is irrationally creeped out by H.R. Pufnstuf. (Seriously, have you ever seen that thing? Why is its head so big? Agh!)

Saul Stryker, 26, hasn’t really noticed his co-worker/buddy’s roommate, Jayne Pritchett, 23, till she makes quite an impression on him with his pickle. Well actually it’s her pickle, and she deems him a pilfering pickle pirate.

“‘She hasn’t said two words to me in three weeks and all of a sudden she’s deep-throating my pickle.’”

This is a funny, steamy, low angst holiday read. Totally what I was looking for! Jayne is spunky, and holds her own with Saul and her roommate Perry, who incidentally have some good bromance banter with each other.

“‘Does your ass ever get jealous of the shit that comes out of your mouth?’”

Saul kept me guessing a bit at first; I couldn’t always be sure when he was messing with Jayne or if it was just his personality. He was quite unfiltered, which led to plenty of innuendo which led to hot sexy times.

“‘You asked me to use my imagination….Come home with me tonight and I’ll show you just how imaginative I can be.’”

Any concerns I had about this dirty-talker’s reputation were put at ease when he rolled off with:

“…Or maybe she’s under the impression that I’m the type to get busy with any chick who drops her panties. Hell no, I’m a little more discriminating than that. I have more respect for my body than to stick my pecker someplace that everyone else has been.”

Then I breathed another sigh of relief when he divulged:

“I have nothing to hide. What you see is what you get—I make no pretenses about who I am.”

How refreshing it always is to find straightforward, sensible, non-broken singles with chemistry and banter. It was fun and endearing watching Saul fall all in for Jayne. He was a keeper. Goofy Christmas romances rule!

Told via Jayne and Saul’s alternating first person POV, the characters are colorful and quirky and yet most of them felt down-to-Earth and normal at the same time. In fact, some serious props to Saul in regards to Lenny (and to Jayne in regards to Monroe). Those pissers would have seriously tried my patience—as in I wouldn’t have been nearly as nice with either of them. Marnie didn’t win any points with me either. Even as a mom myself (and maybe because I’m a mom), I would have been giving her some serious stink eye.

I wish there would have been an epilogue but per the author’s note at the end, I can understand why there might not have been time. In fact, I have to say kudos to her for getting this book finished after her real-life ordeal this fall. So often we see the destruction of a hurricane on TV, but we don’t get to see the human element and her note is a good reminder of how it affects real lives.

But I’d definitely be game for reading future holiday adventures of this pair. I can certainly see the potential for more. ;-)

Happy Pickle Licking Holidays!

“Does your ass ever get jealous of the shit that comes out of your mouth?”

Synopsis:
You don’t mess with a girl who is sick and, on top of that, has her monthly friend. She’s clearly not in her happy place. So when Jayne discovers Saul (who doesn’t even live in the apartment) has taken her beloved last pickle, she has a bit of an overreaction.

- “There was one pickle left. The jar isn't there anymore. Straightening, I turn my eyes to the sink. Just as I thought. One empty glass jar.
This is the last. Fucking. Straw.
He's sitting there with my pickle next to the BLT made with my bacon and my tomatoes!
Dropping one hand on his shoulder with a sweet smile, I bat my lashes coyly while leisurely extracting the pickle with my other hand. Then I slide my tongue all up and down the length of it, swirling around the tip, making sure I cover every square inch with my germs. “Mmm. So good,” I purr in my hoarse voice. Then, just for good measure, I slip the whole thing in my mouth before popping it back out again. And then I return it neatly to his plate. Ha! I guess he won't be eating it now, will he? “There you go.” Crossing my arms, I narrow my eyes. “Enjoy your lunch, you pilfering pickle pirate!”

And what is Saul’s reaction to this minor pickle meltdown??

- “He doesn't say a word. And then, with quiet deliberation, Saul picks up the pickle and takes a huge bite out of it. Crunch. He chews slowly, his eyes never leaving mine.”

These two certainly have a very interesting start.

My Thoughts: The following are my thoughts about this book:

* * my first impression of Saul wasn’t good. What type of rude person just feels free to rummage around in someones refrigerator and kitchen cabinets and just eats whatever he wants. Thankfully he got much better.

* * Jayne and Perry were awesome. Even though they weren’t real brother and sister, they definitely have years of shit on each other and I really liked their relationship.

* * I thought Jayne and Saul had great chemistry and they had fun together. They were easy to like

* * at the beginning I was worried this was going to veer into stupid humor land. Thankfully it evened out and just became fun.

* * cute kid alert. Jayne’s business partner has a small child. This child only has one scene, but it’s a great one!!

* * the author’s real life Hurricane ordeal (described in the authors personal note at the end of the book) was very interesting to read about

I really enjoyed this story. Saul and Jayne were an absolute hoot together! I pretty much loved the entire cast of characters except for Jayne’s mom, I don’t think I would have been as loving towards her as Jayne was. I was bummed there was not an epilogue, I wanted so much more!

First time reading this author and i gotta say DYINGGGG!!!!!! This was a funny, cute book.. you connect with the characters.. plus the fun banter between Sual and Janye and the friendship they have with Perry 🤣🤣🤣

The connection Sual and Janye have was fun the way it started off with a pickle.. caught Sual attention.. but ill be honest I think Sual already had eyes on Janye.. he watched her outfits.. didn't wanna hit on her thinking she was Perry's younger sister..

Low in angst, no ow/om drama, slight tiny drama, good sex scenes, fun secondary charas, our guy not a manwhore!!! Our gal not a virgin.. i wish they had a epilogue :(

If you're looking for a fun, hilarious holiday read then look no further. This book had me laughing from beginning to end. I was sucked in right from the beginning. I love the quirky characters in this one so much. It's a light read that left me satisfied when I finished reading. It's definitely a book you want to gobble up yet you hate to see end. It's perfect book to read during the holiday season because along with the humor there is plenty of heart.

This was a cute holiday novella with lots of laugh out loud moments and it turns a bit serious towards the end which I was not expecting from a book titled Pickle Licker, but there it is. It's a good book.

Pickle Licker: a quirky Christmas novella was the funniest, most adorable thing I've read in a long while! My first foray into the world of Allie Gail was quite the adventure and I loved every minute! Completely ridiculous, hilariously irreverent and utterly heartwarming, it was the perfect short read.

Saul Stryker (great name) put Jayne Prichett solidly into the best friend's, much younger sister category and barely even sees her but when stomps adorably over to him and deep-throats his pickle, he can no longer ignore her. Ok well technically it was her pickle but still, you see how that'll change the way a guy sees things, right? He's made himself at home in the house she shares with his friend Perry, while they work on their streaming game concept and apparently, Jayne doesn't like to share her food. After Perry reveals she's not his younger sister, the blinders come off and Saul finds himself falling for the quirky little bombshell.

Jayne has little opinion of Saul, especially since he's eating her out of house and home and ignored her for the three weeks he's been working with Perry. She's sick, tired and hungry and those three things are combustible. When the infuriating man steals her last pickle, she's had it. Not only is she going to give him a piece of her mind, she's going to render that pickle inedible. Or so she thinks. Her display with the pickle seems to turn on a sign saying "let the games begin". At first she's resistant but she can't resist this good looking, funny, completely unfiltered guy for long.

This was an insta-love story full of laughs and tons of heart! Despite not caring for several of the other characters, I loved it. Definitely a great Christmas read! I look forward to more from Allie Gale.

Pickle Licker was the first book I’ve read by Allie Gail. It was irreverent, funny, heartwarming and made me smile. The characters was well written and Saul was super sexy and quite swoon worthy at times. I liked how independent Jayne Pritchett was. She had a less than stellar upbringing with her flighty mom, but she didn’t let that baggage pull her down. She was sweet and kind and fell hard for Mr Stryker.
Jayne thought she hated Saul, after all he hadn’t made the best of impressions with her in the three weeks he’d been in the apartment she shared with her lifelong best friend. But when Saul steals her last pickle, he’s gone a step too far. She’s gonna make him pay!
What Jayne does to that pickle in revenge gets her noticed for the first time and when Saul finds out that’s she and his mate Saul are just friends, he starts to see her in a very different light.
It’s not long before her ‘pickle party’ is being put to use in other more exciting ways. Saul was sold from the first lick.
This was a fast, insta-love, enemies to lovers kind of story. There was very little, angst, no drama for exes or family. Saul and Jayne were just two people falling in love during the holiday season and I enjoyed every sassy, sexy, chemistry laden moment of it. It’s told in dual POV, Jayne and Saul alternating with their sassy, sometimes dirty commentary. There was some seriously aww moments, and kudos to Saul in the tee-teeing incident with toddler Lenny.
All in all, a fun and fast holiday romance and well worth a read.

The absolutely hilarious content of this novella, in my opinion, is alone worth the 5 star rating, but there's more amazing goodness to this story on top of that. Allie Gail is a new to me author, and I loved her original writing style, so will be reading more of her work immediately after this experience that has my sides still hurting days after reading it. Jayne Pritchett marches to the beat of her own drummer, and makes no apologies for it, and frankly, I couldn't love her more. This book starts out when she's been sick & in bed, but after feeling a tad better, she comes out of her room to make something to eat, when she notices her roommate & best friend's other friend, Saul Stryker, eating her last pickle. It enrages her, and Jayne goes off the rails, grabs that pickle, and basically (you just have to read the story to know what I mean) licks it, then puts it back on his plate. And this starts a very entertaining journey that I couldn't get enough of. These two were so much fun with their witty banter, not to mention all the sparks that continuously flew everywhere. And it all of that wasn't already awesome enough, there was even a big twist that threw me for a big loop, so yeah, Pickle Licker was 100% a winner in my eyes! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, secrets, and heartbreak.

This is Jayne and Saul’s story. When Saul is over and takes her pickle to eat it, she is furious. Where does he get off taking her things? She grabs it and eats it. He thought she was Perry’s little sister and off limits but once he finds out they are just friends he finds himself falling for her. The banter these two have going will keep you laughing and smiling throughout the story. This is the first book I have read by this author but surely not the last.

I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

Jayne is the roommate of Saul’s co-worker / buddy Perry, and she is fed up with him helping himself to her food, so she decides to take revenge, which makes me look at a pickle in a new light lol. Will these two move on from enemies / lovers now that Saul has noticed the feisty Jayne? No spoilers; this is a definite must read, you will certainly not be disappointed! This is a well written flawless story, which has tad angst, and is a heart-warming, fun, steamy, and a thoroughly entertaining read. I was totally hooked from beginning to end, and I look forward to reading more from this talented author, whose work I highly recommend for all.

This book was hilarious! I can't believe I haven't read this author before and I definitely will be reading this author again. Saul can't believe it when his buddies roommates deep throat his puckle. But he's definitely looking at her now . Jayne can't believe how Saul is actually interested in her now but he sure isn't wasting anytime letting her know. This book was hilarious , sexy and really sweet. A perfect holiday novella with lots of laughs.

What a absolute fantastic hot as hell read by a new arthur for me. This book had me laughing from the start. Omg the bantering that Saul and Jayne did towards each other had me laughing throughout the book, but oh mercy talk about some hot and heavy between the sheet action these 2 did.

"If you waste your life worrying more about the opinions of others than doing what pleases you, then just think of all the wonderful experiences you'll miss.”

Pickle Licker is one of the holiday freebies I had in my kindle. Saul never really saw Jayne until she licked his pickle. She gave off a future crazy-cat.lady vibe and he thought that she was still in high school.

I could relate to Jayne in a fact that she doesn't eat breakfast. Who can right after they wake up? I just wish I had some cute slippers like she does her duck slippers. I love that Saul isn't a manwhore and actually has more respect to his own body than sleep with someone without a condom.

My least favorite thing about the book was Jayne's mom. She was really selfish and acted more like Jayne's wild friend than mom. The woman cared more about her dog than her own daughter. I just wanted Jayne to yell at her or even get mad.

I recommend this book if you're in the mood for something with the minimum angst and some sexy times.

This book was both fun and hilarious and also steamy.
I really liked the characters and the banter between Saul and Jayne was so comical and witty I had many laugh out loud moments when I was reading this book.
It was low angst… But Jayne’s mother was somewhat impulsive and thoughtless and quite selfish.
This book was highly entertaining and very well written.
I just miss one thing about it… I wish it had an epilogue.

Unlikable hero, like really really unlikable.

Jayne has had it with her food-pilfering roommate’s friend and Video game streaming partner, Saul. Saul helps himself to all of Jayne’s food even the food she got for herself special because she’s home sick without so much as a buy your leave or even a thank you. After putting up with this for months the straw finally breaks when he pilfers her last dill pickle. The pickle that she’s been saving special for her lunch, so what’s a girl to do? Well if you are Jayne the answer is give it a good old deep throating complete with cold germs and then toss it back on his plate.

Unfortunately her oral skills get Saul’s attention even if he can’t seem to get her name right. And basically after that he starts hitting on her much to her I guess interest I don’t know.

Basically I couldn’t make it to the 15% mark before I gave up because I hated the hero so much. I really liked Jane, I thought her character voice was hilarious I thought she was funny I would’ve liked more of her. But I hated Saul. Like absolutely detested him, he is like the worst kind of entitled alpha a – hole. He reminds me of Nate from euphoria or the full of himself guy who hires Heath Ledger in 10 Things I Hate About You. He’s the worst.

And Jane’s best friend/roommate isn’t much better. Not once does he try to stop this guy from eating her food. And he doesn’t even care. He’s the worst kind of friend at least to Jayne. And considering he’s known Jayne since they were in first grade I’m very disappointed that he isn’t willing to look out for her.

Basically I hate it all of the male characters that were introduced in this and I’m not willing to put up with more of their crappy behavior to see if they get better there’s not nearly enough story here and I hate them too much.

One star for a thoroughly horrid hero.

I found this book on Amazon via BargainBooksy; this is my honest review.
-All in all, I had rated the book 3 stars. It's an insta-lust, insta-love, insta-sex story, with open doors activity. I think this relates the story line better: a girl grows up in a dysfunctional family and tries her best to be a normal person without being slapped with her mother's reputation. Then she meets the perfect guy who thinks she's perfect too and they start getting busy really fast.
-It's a fun read, quick and easy. No thinking, no mystery, no suspense. It's funny at times, then sad, then sexy, sometimes romantic, but still heart-wrenching.
-Editing: Editing in general is really good. One place I found is that Jayne clicks on the bedside lamp; there is no BS lamp; she had just said she should buy something more cozy than what she had.
-At the end of the story, there's some author's notes about Hurricane Michael - don't miss these notes. The author explains the environment in which she had to work in to finish the story. My husband is in Emergency Management and I teach EM preparedness so I was really interested in her story, which made me add one more star to the book.
-In the author's notes, she describes everything she sees and at one point "there isn't a power pole standing". Here where I live, we have no power pole; it's all underground. At one point, she explains : "slowly, we settled into our new normal". The important word here is "new" because you will never go back to your normal before tragedy struck. Many people don't understand this.

I see this novella has mostly glowing reviews, but it just wasn't by brand of humor. It started off fairly funny, but quickly started to read like the antics of a 12 year old boy.

My opinion may also have been swayed by the fact that I've read several excellent holiday novellas this week, and this one just didn't compare.

The relationship felt rushed. I didn't feel the emotional connection or chemistry between the two. Their first time together sexually read more like that of two awkward high schoolers. Then all of a sudden, they were instantly in love.

In the beginning, I didn't even particularly like he Hero. He was very critical of the heroine and her style. There wasn't enough time within this novella to make me understand his almost instant change of heart. I just missed a connection to either character or their relationship with each other.
There was also a massive amount of internal dialogue with each character. More that than any actual dialogue between the MC's. All of this resulted in my lack of emotional investment. I honestly think the author tried to do too much with too few pages which resulted in underwhelming connections/emotions on all accounts.

Laugh out loud funny!!

I know my husband thought I was nuts as he heard me laugh my way through this very fun book. Jane and Perry had been friends since first grade and were now roommates. Saul is a friend of Perry 's and has been working with him developing a video following. One day Saul ate Jane's last pickle which caused her to take the pickle off his plate, deep throat it, and put it back on his plate. Saul finally noticed Jane and decided he was interested. Jane was just tired of Saul eating all her food for free. As their romance begins they play such funny pranks on Perry but he retaliates. Her mother is very eccentric and has never cared much about her. Just an exceptionally funny book with characters you'll love. Well worth your time!!

I bought this book specifically on the name alone. However, it also had good reviews, so I knew it couldn’t be all bad.

The quirky Christmas romance starts with our leading lady recovering from a cold and frustrated that her roommates ever-present friend has taken the last pickle - the one food her recovering body is craving - from the jar. Her response is to take said pickle off his plate and lick it, spreading her germs to him.

However, romance blooms between the two.

While the first couple of chapters are by far the funniest in the book, the relationship between Jayne and Saul is endearing and realistic - something I don’t always find in romance novels.

Crazy title, funny, sweet romance. Not at all what I was expecting but I enjoyed reading it. The characters were very likable and well developed and the story flowed quite well. If you’re a stickler about language or sex scenes then you might want to give it a pass, but otherwise it was a nice romance where the characters were interesting, funny and real. There were parts where I laughed so hard I cried. I liked it and well it just catches your attention with the title.
