Once upon a time, I lived on Earth. I had a good job, a decent boyfriend, and a good life until I woke up in a vast cargo hold — adults of all ages and races dumped into a cage with automatic functions.
None of us knew anything, and the machines policing us weren't talking.
On the alien planet’s surface, I keep to myself even after he walks in. Literally, a bronze god come to life. I can't help but stare, yet can't say a word, afraid he'll break me in two. The hunky alien is everything tall, dark, and handsome should be, but puts the men on Earth to shame.
Anywhere else and I’d be using my best take me home lines on him, but in this hellhole? I think he and I are both doomed.
Turkh An Earther is here on the planet.
Her world is illegal to visit, never mind remove a being from. I’m here to bust up an illegal mining operation, not find my bondmate. And yet? My entire system knows she’s mine from the moment we touch. She’s nothing like I imagined my mate to be, yet I can’t deny my need for her.
Except, she’s forbidden fruit and a thousand times sweeter. Now all I need to do is figure out how to enforce one law while breaking another by making love with Lin.

I'm an Alien Romance junky and this plot started out with something a little different. So, I enjoyed that aspect of the story very much.
However, I wasn't able to get invested in the couple. I'm sure it's because I was distracted by Lin's loquacious chatter. Perhaps the author meant it to be funny, it just wasn't.
The story had a big disappointment for me. I get they're in a labor camp so they couldn't get too loud, but their first time coupling was a total lackluster event in my opinion. It really deflated all the "bondmate" "She’s mine. I’m hers." statements.
This book was only 214 pages, so why wouldn’t the author give the reader a Happily Ever After? Another disappointment for me.
Because I liked the author's storyline I might give a newer publication a try, and see if her writing has changed... Good Read
Passing on the rest of the series, see why below, but I really liked this book. I love alien sci-fi romance. This book had a lot of story with just the right amount of sexy times. I hate it when a book is 50% filled with boring and unoriginal sex. The characters were well developed. The slave planet setting was well described. My only regret is that the story wasn't longer so that we could "see" the planet where our hero comes from. I'm going to recommend this to my sister who has become my reading buddy. The rest of the books in the series are less than 170 pages, most under 150 and priced at $3.99. Going to pass on the rest. I prefer longer reads.
3 & 1/2 stars rounded up. I enjoyed this enough to consider reading book 2. I liked the main characters for the most part. Turkh was good as far as alien heroes go. This read really fast, and I felt the world building (learn as Lin does at times) was enough to satisfy my mind. I felt that there was a few gaps in timeline that weren't explained real well, but otherwise an enjoyable book.
Lin wakes up in hell, and t only gets worse, until the day Turkh shows up, and she discovers a single person can make hell worth surviving.
At first glance Lin doesn’t seem like the most driven or ambitious character, but through Turkh we discover her fun, uplifting attitude, and her insatiable curiosity, which evolves into a willingness to learn.
I loved this book- I inhaled it in one sitting! I found the world building intriguing, the characters relatable, and the pace and voice to be delicious! When’s the next one published? Can I just have it, now, pretty-please-with-a-cherry-on-top!?!!!
Truly, this book moved along so smoothly it was a pleasure to read. I liked Lin's adaptability to the awful situations. Her acceptance of Turkh as her everything. This was Lin's story about her strength and the strength of her love.
Mara Jaye did a good job creating characters and a new world. However, I was not able to get truly lost in the story. Maybe I was distracted or maybe the writing style was not a good match for me. I will have to read another book by Ms. Jaye to tell.
Lin wakes up and finds herself aboard a ship that is flying them to a far away planet with other aliens. She can't understand any of the other aliens but some of the female aliens help her out. They find themselves on a mining planet and are forced to work. She's seen what happens to those who cannot or will not work so she works and barely makes it until she is befriended by Turkh. He and another of his kind are there on a mission to bring the aliens who are enslaving lesser aliens on this planet to mine for them to justice. But his mission goes a little sideways when he meets Lin because she turns out to be his mate. He does things that are against his mission protocol in order to keep her safe until they can be rescued.
I loved Lin because even though she finds herself in a terrible situation, she's really strong and keeps it together. She wants to believe Turkh when he tells her that he's going to get her out of there but she isn't sure that they are going to be saved. They spend a lot of time in this mining colony gathering information to bring down the evil aliens and in that time Lin and Turkh get closer and Lin learns a lot more about him.
But they are in an open field with the open prisoners when they have their sexy times which even though they are supposed to be far enough away from the others so that they have a little privacy, it seemed a little to voyeuristic to me. The tech he has in his head is a little confusing and I thought it was a little unbelievable that he could mess up and accidentally give her too much of it when he's trying to help her. And when he tries to take it back to save her Lin acts like a child about it.
The story was good, the conclusion was a good one. So even though I had a few things that bothered me about the story as a whole, I still enjoyed this book
This is the first time that I have read this author.
I received a free copy of this book through Booksprout. I kept seeing book sprout reviews on Amazon and decided to check it out. I'm happy that I did. In the first chapter, I was worried that Lin would be a dizzy blonde. I was glad to be wrong. She remained calm and made the best of an awful situation. I like her. I actually thought that Turkh was a cyborg for a brief time. He was all business until he saw Lin. Although Turkh and Lin were in a very dangerous situation, watching their relationship build slowly was sweet. There was just enough action to keep this story moving. I am sure that I will read the rest of this series.
I don't normally read Sci-Fi romance but this story just pulls you into it and its very interesting because you can't help but feel that the universe is big enough for more than one planet like ours with our kind of humanity living on it. Lin wakes up on a spaceship heading away from earth with other life forms and so finds her hero another being who is ready to stop at nothing to help her. It's strangely intriguing and the storyline characters and plot are well portrayed that you think this could well of already happened if aliens existed
This is a story about Lin, from earth, and Turkh. He’s an enforcer with an Intergalactic Alliance. She was kidnapped from earth and is stuck as slave labor in an underground mine. Turkh & his partner are undercover, investigating violations. What happens between Lin & Turkh & their forbidden relationship is a really good read. I would give it 5 stars, but the language during sexual scenes was too spicy for me.
Lin wakes up to discover that she has been kidnapped by aliens. Transported to a mine, she works there barely surviving, until she meets Turkh, a Garh enforcement officer, there to close down the illegal operation.
And enjoyable, and relatively quick read, sci-fi romance. Alien, abduction, forced Labour, attractive alien males that claim their bond mates… they can all be found in this entertaining read.
I loved this book. Lin has a very bad time, She is abducted in her pajamas and not even socks and it set on a mining world as slave labour. Life is really hard for her. Turkh is an enforcer for the galactic alience and his and his friend's mission is to colect info about the slave labour and ilicit activities hapening on that planet. As we all know, things never go as planed and a certen human is going to Change everything. I recomend the book for the sci-fi romance readers!
Mara Jaye wrote a very engaging story in Lin's Challenge, the first Inteergalactic Officers. This was my first book written by Mara Jaye. It is a romance with a mix of humor, dangerously exciting moment, and at times dark themes to be endured and/or overcome prior to a happy ending. A new world for me to explore and I was not disappointed!
If I throw a fit can we keep following them? Turkh is so sweet and I love how determined and brave Lin is! The book does such a great job of introducing everyone to that which is the galexy that you hardly recognize it as world building! I absolutely love how these two get entangled and all the sweet things he says to her! I can't wait to read the next one!
I liked this book a lot. We meet new species on a new world. The two officers gather Intel as they pose as slaves and save the lone earth woman brought to the planet. Together the three gather proof of the nefarious deeds and bring the bad guys to justice.
The whole scenario is hard to believe. I had to really suspend my disbelief to finish this one. I liked her personality, up until the moment she behaves like an entitled toddler. And her surprise every time he told authorities the truth was annoying. He doesn’t have much personality to speak of, and the set up for the next book is absurd and completely illegal for what we know of this universe.
Interesting concept of the worlds having different levels of advancement. The slavery was well depicted and the enforcers were needed to help Lin survive. The bond mate found a happy ending
This isn't your typical alien kidnapping story. There was a lot of depth to the storyline. The female character is strong and resilient. The male character was an enforcer with a sweet disposition towards the female. A must read
This one had me going, I was really worried that they wouldn't make it out the mines...The emperor was very lenient but I see the bond between Turkh and Lin wasn't something to be ignored or marginalize.
What an entertaining and fun read. I enjoyed the world the author created and liked the resilience of the characters on their journey. I would read more by this author.
The story is great. The characters are charismatic & sexy. The villains are very bad. The good guys are really goo & A bit manipulative. Its really great fun.
