One day, you’ll realize that there are some people you’ll never see again; at least not the same way… Neighbors Lantana Hart and Ralo Thompson are both raised in domestic violence households, but miraculously survive the horrific circumstances when they rely on each other. These best friends learn quickly from the traumatic events and vow to never abuse the ones they love and more importantly, never allow the ones that claim to love you, abuse you… Never! As time goes on, Lantana and Ralo not only remain friends, they become lovers as well. He is still over protective and constantly looks out for his boo, but Ralo’s problem is, he has an issue with being faithful. Lantana quickly grows tired of it right when a predominant figure, Avery Penson, comes in and sweeps her off her feet. This new love in Lantana’s life has Ralo ready to tear up the world to get his girl back. Thing is, Avery is not backing down and will control the situation by any means necessary. Now it is a totally different playing field, and feelings are involved; feelings so deep that lives are on the line. Domestic Violence is real and sometimes the outcome isn’t so good, so you must remember, Don’t be a silent victim fooled by a SO-CALLED LOVE because REAL LOVE doesn’t leave you with Black Eyes and Blue Tears…
It was disheartening to see what Ralo and Lantana had to witness and go through at such a early age. The both of them grew up in unhealthy households. They had no clue that once they got of age. How much history was going to end up somewhat repeating itself. Ralo was dealing with different women because he was trying to fill the void for the woman who he truly wanted. Lantana couldn't stand to be around her father because she still blamed him for what her mother did and she was tired of getting her heart played with. She ended up meeting someone who showed her the finer things in life until she saw a side of Avery that showed he was the devil in disguise. Avery put up a real good front but he was a few fries short of a happy meal (crazy). His obsession with Lantana caused his horns to show. Lantana realized she put herself in the type of relationship. She vowed to never be in. With Avery on a rampage trying to isolate her. He ends up setting himself up.
I love a great read. I finished this story in about three days. Lantana yes baby bc for a moment, .. Nawl ima let y'all read it Finally !!! A happy ending and I love that for her..
This book was so good from beginning to the end and I couldn't put it down....a page-turner. Held my attention and it moved at a fast yet steady pace. Enjoyed the storyline and these characters. I really loved the relationship between Ralo and Lantana and how it blossomed throughout the book. Both were exposed to domestic violence at a young age and vowed to never have it in the adult lives. The one that loves you should never abuse you, that was their motto. Over time the friends become lovers, but being faithful and commitment kept them apart. Along comes Avery and sweeps Lantana off her feet, however t everything that looks good isn't always good for you. Avery, has a dark secret and it soon rears it's ugly head. But Ralo is always there for his friend and lover. After Avery shows his true colors, but true love prevails and happy ending. Avery got exactly what he deserved. And I loved the way it all came together. Wouldn't mind a spin-off of Gabrielle and Rayshauna. The title definitely fitted the storyline. Highly recommend this book. Amazing job Shelli Marie....you never cease to amaze me.
Lantana had resolved that the cycle of domestic abuse would end with her parents. Sadly, it came for her in the form of a smooth talking, high profile, insecure boy in mens' clothes. Avery was controlling but his insecure nature was a real trigger. Lantana missed the red flags and made the ultimate mistake of believing he would never hit her again. Without her support system, there would be no hea. This was a decent read with some complex situations that made the story more realistic.
Very, very emotional. Had me crying. Really though after everything that Lantana and Ralo been through and seen in their young lives, that they both would get it together, but life doesn't always turn out that way. Avery was a big surprise, didn't think he would be a wolf in sheep clothing. Domestic Abuse comes in all forms, it up to you to spot the signs and not become a victim.
Shelli did a very good job of displaying realistic facts on domestic violence. I loved the way that she showed the loving and caring side of Rolo and Lantana after all that they witnessed when they were younger. I’m also glad that she showed that an abuser can serve time even when they are politicians.
So glad that Ralo finally came to his senses and realized that Lantana was the right one for him and that she got out of an abusive situation alive. I would love to read an update concerning Avery did go to jail of did his friends cover up what he was doing to Lantana and did they ever find out what happened to April
This book was everything from pain, heartbreak, abuse to everlasting love if u love ur self enough to make it out. This author is on fire. Shelli Marie u did that and as an avid reader from the beginning this book shows growth keep pushing the best is yet to come
Author Shelli you have done it honey I enjoyed this book I’m so glad Lantana made it out alive. Ralo finally became a one woman man and married Lantana. I recommend this book to all avid readers.
A Must Read very good and emotional read. I couldn’t believe that Avery was the person he was. Ralo and Lantana was meant to be and so glad it worked out for them in the end. Good job Author Shellie Marie
I’m glad Ralo was a patient man . I loved his character, no matter what he did . I’m not the biggest fan of Latanana she was selfish to me , but I’m glad they made it at the end . He was giving all he had.
This is my first time reading one of your boos books but it definitely won't be the last. Avery was the true definition of a wolf in sheep clothing. I would have liked to know how much time he got and what happened to his two big flunkies. Ralo truly loved Latana. She let that lifestyle blind her the first time when she knew she should have walked away but coming from someone that's never been in that situation I guess it's easier said than done. I'm so glad they got their happy ever after. Great job Shelli Marie 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Lantana and Ralo were definitely soulmates. They've experienced a lot of trauma together. Ralo just needed to experience other things before he could settle down. Unfortunately pain ran Lantana straight in to Mr. Mayor's arms . He was testing her loyalty when she should have been testing his sanity. Avery was a monster. I'm glad they found their way back . My only complaint would be I wish the book was longer and shared more of a backstory on Avery's childhood.

I don't usually read or like to read domestic abuse story but I will for some of my favorite authors. I'm so glad Avery went to prison. I still don't like Ralo's daddy or Jay.
This book had me going. I went from loving a character to hating his guts! Then my heart broke, and Shelli girl, you mended it back together. Great book! It's definitely a page turner.
