Awesome and chaotic sequel!

This was an amazing piece, better than the first book. There is Yuri, adventures and conspiracy. Developing friendship and action. What more do you want, buy this!

Although I found the mechanical aspect of this book’s writing less polished than what I remember from the prequel, this was an enjoyable, fun read nonetheless. The author also had clever ideas here and there. I did have some gripes, however (or just observations). I’ll start with those.

- About air magic (page 108): the word “telepathy” was once used instead of “telekinesis”.
- I had expected Kamii’s dark magic education to be touched on at least somewhat, seeing how Chloe cared so much for her.
- Mhmm…………….? Main dish then ⇒
- My main criticism would be with the final scene, specifically the moment preceding the teleporter circle fight. Chloe had voiced caution towards fighting mages in light of her recent fight with the thugs/assassins in the street, especially when outnumbered or facing skilled opponents (which she knew the professors and principal would be). Her suspicious appearance after using teleportation was indeed a troublesome situation, but the principal, in her words, seemed to desire a peaceful outcome still. There being two girls she wanted to protect in that moment, she should’ve been of the mindset to go along that path, or attempt to. A possibility arose in my mind then: what if she spoke half truths/lied and said she had been convening with the envoy of the goddess XYZ (whom Mithra was “serving”)? That would also have explained her refusal to become a champion to the other envoys, and at worst Mithra would’ve been involved, getting called in to testify etc. But I do understand the need for a more thrilling, action-packed scene towards a novel’s end, a climax. So while I still think it would’ve been neat for Chloe to skillfully weave her way out of hot waters there, such a series of events might have prolonged things or made the plot head towards some dead end from which it would be difficult for an author to spring back. So, where should the blame be cast? At the slap! It was what triggered the fight, but I thought it wasn’t impactful enough to justify Chloe lashing out, disregarding her reservations about picking this battle (and endanger her beloved in the process). Though I like how she uncompromisingly retaliated as seeing her friend/lover hurt, I would’ve been as a reader more convinced had the trigger been more dramatic. (Sidenote: I enjoyed seeing the male fire mage professor’s shift in attitude towards the angel; veneration, then contempt.) SO, if the fire professor (Al...gebrand?) had, say, punched Hestia the angel while sputtering, “Scum!” or “Bitch!” or “Shut up filthy whore!” [etc...], his character itself would’ve benefited from extra development (I don't endorse adding gratuitous violence against women, but he gets the tentacle treatment anyway so...!), while Chloe would be more than totally justified in her wrathful reaction. Two birds one stone! Hm… That, or adding a line or two about an all-consuming fire bubbling up inside her, just before she does attack and chaos unfurls (pun intended). I’m sure that last option could be done without it becoming “telling”.

ANYWAYYYyyyyy, on to the positive points! Not an exhaustive list.
- I loved how the protagonist, upon first seeing the angel, was attracted to her wings. Then shortly after, she said, “Those wings… I want them too.” It might just be me since in my review of the last book I mentioned wings, but I felt an affinity with the writing there, especially when Chloe said she could use such wings to fly back to her demon kingdom. Also, the author did a good job on mentioning it a few more times, as follow-ups (or build-up…? *wink wink*) to the character’s intention.
- I think the protagonist showed more depth too (but then my memory of the previous book might not be so fresh anymore, in which case the appreciation still stands on its own). For example, Chloe’s carnal urge to corrupt the angel’s innocence was a nice moment of moral conflict.
- Senka! Without her genre-savvy quips, many of the things in this novel might not have flown.
- Chloe’s use of her shapeshifting abilities, adapting specific characteristics (wolf paws) to her needs.
- Protagonist’s failure at mastering spells. In her own words, it indeed wouldn’t have been too exciting otherwise.
- The author’s thoughtfulness at mentioning things, avoiding in the process holes/inconsistencies. Ex.: Chloe remarks how Senka must have managed to somehow feed herself without her supplying the doll more souls/blood. (I did think there was potential for furthering their relationship by granting Senka more emotions, because being unable to move must be akin to sleep paralysis, and it’s terrifying, I tell you!)
- When Senka disappeared for most of the day and Hestia came, swooping in for some naughty time. Not sure if she had anything to do with that, but it was Senka’s suggestion to turn the corruption into something positive after all, so her implied action, without the protagonist’s knowledge, lent the doll extra dimension.
- The bittersweet nature (for we human audience) of the final battle, pitting some of the nice teachers Chloe had grown to know against her.
- Lesbian polyamory. Harem? Whatevs. YURIIIII!!!

Some bits I found funny:
- “[...] now I’m satisfied with the canteen food and the salt of maidens.”
- “[...] this looks like one of those thermae I read up about due to my interest in hot springs.” A writer’s research is never-ending indeed! ;)
-“I’ve been surrounded by raging lesbians!”

All in all, I had a great time and am looking forward to what comes next.

Uninspired.

The pacing issue from the first is dealt with, quite well in fact, but now the main problem is the content of boring tropes. The characters lose a lot of their unique qualities and become caricatures. The sudden demon reveal makes most of book one feel unnecessary and the ending feels forced.

Awesome.

This series keeps getting better. I expected the events to unfold as they did, just not so soon. I have to know what happens next. I cannot wait to find out. The story and characters were intriguing and engaging. I look forward to reading more about these characters and their further adventures. This book is definitely worth reading.

The novelty of her being a cosmic horror has worn off, and the story and writing don't make up for it. On top of that, there's still a lot of uncomfortable scenes in the book, like her effectively raping her slime classmate on accident.

Another excellent book. For those of you disappointed by the lack of freaky henti related actions, you will be well served reading this book. As always the sex is not overdone, it is very Japanese (polite, subduded, quiet, OMG SO MUCH FLUID, polite....)

The plot thickens in more ways than one! I love getting to learn the magic system alongside our MC and read her adventures in snooping around with her shapeshifting! The smutty scenes are well written as always with this series, and I can't wait for our MC to actually get home like intended
