It’s a typical Texas night when Reese Grantham intends to drown her sorrows in a local bar. Her evening soon turns around, thanks to military operative turned rancher Hoyt Reynolds. Before she knows it, Reese is expecting a bundle of joy, but when she enters a killer’s crosshairs, there’s nothing Hoyt won’t do to save her and his child.
Addison Fox can’t remember a time when words weren’t a part of her life. In addition to being an avid reader, she loves writing novels about strong-willed and exciting heroes and heroines – individuals who are meant for each other and who deserve their happy ever after. After she makes them work for it, of course!
First published in 2010, Addison has written across romance genres including paranormal, contemporary and romantic suspense. A romantic at heart, she’ll take her heroes any way she can get them – from ancient warriors to computer geeks to sexy cowboys. She’s not picky - but she is deeply grateful her readers are willing to come along for the ride.
There is escalating jeopardy in the second book of the Midnight, Texas, where plenty of emotional issues also cause challenges. Two families are tied together by past incidents, and a current situation links them even closer. As new threats crop up and feelings become even more confused, I was drawn into the many circumstances that the romantic couple in the story had to face. Addison Fox has created a very riveting premise for SPECIAL OPS COWBOY, as emotional conflicts and risky peril are never-ending.
After enduring several months of gossip about her family, Reese Grantham hopes a few hours spent at a bar will help her forget the events causing the remarks, at least for a short time. When she is joined by a local rancher, she wonders why Hoyt Reynolds would come speak to her as he usually does not start a conversation. To keep the town’s English teacher from giving the citizens of Midnight Pass more to talk about, he drives her home and they end up spending the night together. Upon discovering she is pregnant, Reese is actually happy again until unexplained threats start happening, which causes Hoyt to fear about her safety and that of his unborn baby.
A story about Texas and its hardworking cowboys is always a favorite, and the hero in this story is a man whom I truly liked from the start. Though not talkative nor very sociable, Hoyt is the type of person who assists others without being asked and needs no thanks. But when he helps Reese in not making a mistake, it leads to a huge change in both their lives. When danger also starts showing up in unforeseen ways, he takes it upon himself to keep the mother of his child from harm. The many discussions these two have are packed with insight into their inner thoughts, and I found them to be honest and sometimes rather opinionated. I really enjoyed their more serious talks, as I wanted to see what kind of responses they would have.
With no idea when something bad would take place, I was anxious while reading because of what might occur without any warning. Addison Fox definitely kept my mind engaged throughout the book, as I used the clues given to unravel the mystery of what was actually going on. Between the uncertainty of possible upcoming dangerous episodes and the large amount of emotions being expressed, SPECIAL OPS COWBOY kept me entertained at all times.
I voluntarily reviewed the book, and all comments are my honest opinion - Rating: 4.5 Stars
I enjoy reading romantic suspense and I liked Addison Fox's book Special Ops Cowboy. It is the second book in her Midnight Pass, Texas series. It tells the story of high school English teacher Reese Grantham and family rancher Hoyt Reynolds. Two months earlier Reese's father killed himself with a gunshot to the head. He had snapped and gone on a serial rampage killing 4 drug dealers. One night Reese decides to do some relaxing/drinking at The Border Line Bar. Hoyt finds her there and strikes up a conversation. (Hoyt's soon to be sister-in-law Annabelle Granger had been kidnapped by Reese's father before he eventually let her go). Hoyt has his own disappointing father. He had used bad business practices, cheated partners, and swindled people with bad deals. When Hoyt gives Reese a ride home from the bar, it turns into a one night stand. What results is an unexpected pregnancy! The reality is now they need to get to know each other! These characters and the rest of Hoyt's family are likable and easy to root for. Unfortunately, someone doesn't like Reese and is stalking her and out to get her. This part of the book changes it from a simple unexpected baby story into a mystery which I liked.
