Sad to see it end

I enjoyed this story and liked the use of the journey across the country as the symbol of such a larger journey. Some of the phrasing betrays the writer as a non American, but that didn't pull me out of the story as much as it forced me to re-read certain sections to just absorb the feeling and intent. An over abundance of flowery descriptions placed me into this setting quickly. I could feel the weather, the atmosphere and mood. Overall an enjoyable read and I loved the alternative to a coming of age story.
