Death Force #3

Shadow Force

Rate this book
It's a mission no sane fighter would willingly accept, no matter how much money was on the table. But what if there was no choice? Somali-based pirates are attacking ships off the coast of Africa, demanding tens of millions of dolars in ransoms and pushing up the cost of shipping along one of the world's most valuable trade routes. The elite fighting men from Death Inc are thrown into action in their most dangerous mission yet. They are the British government's Shadow Force: a top secret unit sent into Somalia to destroy the pirates. But it soon becomes clear they have been pitched into a deadly conspiracy, in which only they are expendable...

I am a thriller writer, living near London. 'Death Force' is the first in a series of books following a group of mercenaries around the world. It owes a lot to action, adventure writers like Alistair MacLean, and World War Two writers like Sven Hassel. It also owes a lot to Westerns. When I'm not writing thrillers, I write a financial column for Bloomberg, and I write for The Spectator.

There have been quite a few thrillers set in the battle against Somali pirates but Matt Lynn’s Shadow Force is easily the best. If you are already into the series, you’ll already know you are in for a treat. If not, go back to the start – although if you start here I can guarantee that you won’t be disappointed. The mercenary unit go off to Somalia to hunt down the Mr Big of the piracy trade. But they soon find the mission is not what they expected it to be. Some great action scenes and some unexpected twists and turns make this an excellent read.

Absolutely loved it! The best one of the series so far. I can't wait till the next installment. The similarities between this author and Andy McNab are eerily similar. This is a great series and I am sure the main characters will stand the test of time. Please write more and keep
Them as entertaining as the first three. Because I "sodding love em"!. Give this series a shot gang you will not be disappointed. They are easy reads that will keep you entertained till the last page.

I found it!!!Am i missing any other instalments?
The story is getting kind of reptitive with the deaths and false mission objectives.
But i still love it.My weapons and milltary knowledge has gone atleast two-folds.
But just realised a tiny fact, there is very minimal mentions of any U.S. units.Maybe the U.S. made weapons bt not the mention and explainations of U.S. special ops.Why is that so?

Excellent. A contempoary and modern thriller. Informative about Somalia and Pirates. Read it before the series is filmed.

I have been critical of the two previous books in this series, they were far too obvious with gaping plot holes and a formula followed too easily from the first to the second book.
I was pleasantly surprised to be shaken out of my lukewarm expectations to find this one is actually pretty good.
The author has learnt from his previous books and is brave enough here to change the formula a bit. No caricature bad guys, no daft plot and lack of logic here, although we stay within the expectations of a high octane military thriller.
The gang of mercenaries featured in the first two books return here, blackmailed into working for MI6 on a near suicidal black op to capture the leader of the Somali pirates. A new French Sea commando is added to the team as they train and then head for the Somali coast, not knowing there is another plan that will put them all at risk…..
It is of course non stop action but some interesting twists are thrown in that raise it above the norm and away from the predictable. One or two mistakes from the previous books are repeated but the sum of the book out-weighs these mistakes and it ends up being exactly what you hoped for, non stop military action.
Delighted to say I enjoyed it.

Like an American action movie this book has plenty of shooting, explosions, bombs and a few improvised weapons. It also has the same lacking element of realism, if you're after a story with depth this isn't the book for you, but if you're looking for something to pass the time and don't mind how reality based a story is then this could be something you'd enjoy.

I found it better than the earlier book, but still resoundingly average, but then perhaps I'm not the intended target demographic.

Just finished Shadow Force by Matt Lynn. Steve n Death Force Inc are back this time being forced to take on a dangerous job. Hunt capture alive the leader of the Somali pirates!! With 2 former members not in the team and a new navy French member, can the Team survive this suicide mission? A great read. :)
