This informational book, an introduction to sign language, is split into chapters based on topic. Throughout the book are supplemental activities to test knowledge such as crosswords, matching pictures of opposite signs, and a sign language word search.
I liked this book because it includes clear pictures, directional arrows to show how the signs move, and detailed descriptions of each sign. I found the book easy to follow and it includes a wide variety of useful topics.
This would be good for 5th-8th graders. While sign language can be learned in infancy, this book relies on the ability to read, so it would be best for older and self-sufficient readers with the motor skills to complete the book’s activities themselves, as well.
The book’s representation of diversity is weak. While it does include photos of deaf people doing regular fun activities at the beginning of each chapter, the models are all Anglo-Saxon in appearance. The “God & Religion” section is very Christian-focused, including signs related only to Judaism, Protestantism, and Catholicism.

Signing for Kids introduces readers to the basics of sign language. Using illustrations with accompanying written descriptions, this book teaches how to sign.

Although this book wasn't the most engaging and/or colourful, practically, I found it quite useful. The book featured a good range of signs and was organized thematically which was helpful. Additionally, Flodin included arrows demonstrating in which direction hands should move to complete each sign which made it easy to follow along.

Will definitely keep coming back to this book until I have learned all of the signs.

How many of you people out there are as interested in learning new things than I am. We'll believe it or not, half of you people are interested in more things than I am. I wanted to learn American Sign Language, because of a movie I watched, that gave me the idea. When I got this book I learned so much from it, that I can't even believe. I would recommend this book to people who are interested in learning to sign or even wanting to know more about signing. It is a very interesting hobby of mine and I believe more people should learn more about signing before they judge it and say why are you waisting your time to do it. Many people look at a book and judge it by its cover, when I save the cover I was mesmerized by it. I saw the word signing and though why not try since I wanted to learn. Even though I already knew the alphabet I wanted to learn more it was a better way to spend my time instead of playing games or watching a movie. Thank you Mickey Flodin for writing this book and it is so amazing that I can't think of better word to call it than The Best Book Ever!
