“I want to trust you.” Koby Duvall always knew his place at school. Art nerds like him were just target practice for guys on the football team. NFL star Vince Russo may never have bullied him, but the two men are still nothing alike. Except when Koby is asked to create a sculpture of Russo, they find themselves stuck together. Vince is only home for a few weeks over the holidays while he recovers from a head injury. Face to face with his former classmate, he finally has a chance to prove to Koby that he’s more than just a dumb jock. However, sparks fly and Vince realizes he and Koby may have more in common than they thought. But all Vince knows is football, and coming out in the NFL is career suicide. When a violent grudge comes back to terrorize Koby, though, Vince knows he’ll do anything to protect the man he loves. Welcome to Hidden Creek, Texas, where the heart knows what it wants, and where true love lives happily ever after. Every Men of Hidden Creek novel can be read on its own, but keep an eye out for familiar faces around town! This book contains a steamy modeling session, big families with even bigger food portions, and enough chemistry to melt steel.

This book is spectacular!

The book made me laugh, cry, and generally fall in love with romances all over again. Koby is the perfect combination of funny, snarky, and is truly dedicated to his friends and family. He is comfortable in who he is and how he views life. Vince is a wonderful character as well, a gentle giant, who cares about others and is a dedicated teammate and friend.

Koby is commissioned to make a statue of Vince, a pro-football player, who is having the new football stadium named after him and is in town after a concussion sidelined him for a couple of months. As they get to know one another, Koby's opinions about jocks and bigger men start to change because of Vince's actions and his caring nature. Vince is careful with Koby, not wanting to scare him because of his size and goes out of his way to make Koby feel comfortable around him.

Vince was aware of Koby in high school and then again in college, but they never ran in the same circles. When this project brings them together, Vince starts to realize that his identity may be changing, and while it’s scary to him at first, it’s also exhilarating. Vince is a sweet, caring man who spends time with Koby, learning his thoughts on sexuality and gender identity, and starts to realize people shouldn’t be defined. And because of that, he has to rethink his friendships and his past relationships. He has an open mind and comes to realize that he likes Koby.

I really enjoyed all the scenes where Koby and Vince were together. They were both encouraging of one another and caring to the other’s feelings and I loved how their relationship developed over time. I don’t want to give too much away because it is a fabulous book to read. I loved every word of this book and I can’t recommend it highly enough!!

A meaningful coming together story with a HEA!

This story interested me from the beginning and while there were a lot of LBGTQ terms I felt like I learnt a lot too. Helen showed a great amount of respect to her characters and readers by creating these wonderful pansexual characters and I loved Koby and Vince.

This story is about former classmates; the ‘art nerd’ (Kody) and the ‘jock’ (Vince), finding each other and opening themselves up along the way. Vince is on leave from the NRL due to injury and finds himself back in his home town of Hidden Creek that is now LGBTQ friendly and causes Vince to look at how he feels and what he wants for himself. With some drama and danger along the way, Vince and Kody find they are better together and are able to find their happily ever after with each other.

This was the first book I’ve read by H.J. Welch and enjoyed her writing style. She is informative in her stories but is flows through her writing and never distracts from the story, the characters or the pace of the book. I now need to go back to Season 1 and Season 2 of the Men of Hidden Creek to read her previous stories as the characters are featured in this book just enough to intrigue me and make me what to know more.

This was a great holiday read and my first featuring Pansexual/Aromantic/Asexual main characters. A highly recommend series as a whole too!

Extra Note: I loved the young child Zane, he reminded me of my son 💖

Thanks for reading 📚!

After 2 seasons, the one thing we all wanted and were waiting for is here..Koby.

Seeing Koby through the previous seasons, I thought he had everything together and would be the protector of the lover he chose. Helen through that out the window and this story was sooooooooooo much better than I ever imagined it would be. I was in tears multiple times and could not be happier that Vince is the man who was able to make Koby the best and happiest man he could be.

Thank you Helen for a great story for Koby in a our final Season

The artist and the jock

I enjoyed this story because it was different than anticipated. Both characters had been judged based upon their likes versus getting to know who the person underneath. It was eye opening when all assumptions were cast aside.

Good story, with one problem

For the most part, this was a good story. I've been looking forward to Koby's story, as I've found him to be one of the most interesting secondary characters to this point. The problem was in making Koby aromantic, but then basically dropping that after he meets Vince. Like meeting him erased that part of his identity? He was wrong about that? If his identity as aromantic had been left out, the story would have worked as well and made more sense.

Another great add to the series. Koby and Vince together is the perfect book couple to me; tough and sweet, artsy and deep. Even though they are different on the outside they come to terms with who they are on the inside and discovering they have more in common then they think was a amazing journey I didn't wait to end. With the people around them making them second guess themselves and who they are make this a realistic read, because it's easy to be yourself when you're alone and its harder to do not only to the world but the public eye. So I enjoyed that side of things and think it shows you that power is in your truth. I voluntarily reviewed an 'Advance Author’s Copy' of this book.

As much as agender, and aromantic, and the nonsense definitions that don't define anything more than personality traits or propagate a gender binary that people who use words like agender like to say doesn't really exist and is just a social construct, included in this book grind my gears I'm not really going to talk about them much here. Because they don't really matter at all in this book (so why were they brought up except to give Koby even more useless labels?).

Drew sucked. Vince's family kind of sucked, too. They were more annoying than anything for the majority of the book (the tiny role they played).

I liked Koby, mostly. I wasn't crazy about him. But I didn't dislike him. I liked Vince the same. Nothing crazy.

The plot was fine too. Straightforward, no big surprises. Not really getting me all raving about it. But good.

"An Athlete and an Artist in an opposites attract MM Romance"

*I received an ARC of this book*

This is one of the books in the 3rd season of the Hidden Creek series. This was one of my first Hidden Creek novels and I felt like it stood alone really well. There was reference to other characters that may have a book of their own but I didn’t feel lost or confused at all.

This book follows Vince, an NFL football player who is back home after a football accident, and Koby, an artist who identifies as Pan and agender. Through a series of encounters, both MCs realize that they want to be together but obstacles block the path and the couple has to fight for their relationship.

What I liked was that Koby was a bit of different sexuality than we typically see in books and he identified as Aromantic as well which was unique for me. Although, I will admit to still not really understanding what makes someone identify as aromantic after reading this book. At a few points in the story it felt like a lot of terminology was just being used but if the MC identifies as what was described, I suppose I cannot criticize this. For the record, Koby identifies as Pan, Agender, and Aromantic. I hated Drew, Vince’s friend, but I suppose the whole book couldn’t be rainbows and sunshine.

Overall, it was a good read but it just didn’t move me enough to give it more stars.

What an enjoyably story about two very different people coming together and developing a friendship and connection along with allowing their attraction to each other to build to something neither of them expected.
Koby is an artist in his hometown of Hidden Creek, asked to create a statue of the town's famous NFL football star, Vince. The two were in the same year but only knew of each other. Upon meeting, the two get on really well which is surprising to them both. As the artwork grows, so does their relationship and the physical attraction eventually becomes known despite Vince never having felt that way for a man before.
This book does an amazing job at bringing pansexuality to the front and describing it in such an each way that others can understand. One of my favourite characters is the little boy wearing the tutu! He's so cute! And seeing Koby in his kilt is a big moment for both the child and his mother. Living freely as your true self is a big thing and the younger you can start, the better. There's drama to go along with the romance in this story and H.J. Welch has done a great job in keeping me enthralled and entertained throughout, needing to know what was going to happen next! We see characters from previous Hidden Creek series and Vince's large family are all a vast network of support and friendship, especially during the tough moments.
Definitely recommend and cannot wait to read the next Hidden Creek book.

This was an utterly delightful read! I just love stories like this one, where the MC’s need to look deeper to discover the truth about each other, where things and people are not what they seem at first glance and stereotypes are proven wrong.

Vince is such a great guy, so open-minded, accepting and willing to learn new things. I was a bit frustrated with him at first, though because of how long it took for him to see what a total jerk his friend Drew had become. Vince’s feelings for Koby take him by surprise and if he wants them to have a chance at something real, he’s going to have to make some pretty big changes. Koby, a sensitive artist, also didn’t expect to fall for his polar opposite,“the Lumberjack”, or for anyone else, for that matter. But their feelings can’t be denied and it made for a great story! I especially loved how sweet and gentle Koby and Vince were with each other, and how deeply and completely they loved one another.

There’s a lot of diversity in this story, which I thought was really great. It’s actually the first book I’ve read with an aromantic main character.

Absolutely recommend this!

Koby is an artist that grew up being bullied by the jocks and looked down upon by school administrators by being an art student. He is now called on by his alma mater to make a sculpture of the local football star.

Vince is home recovering from a concussion. His old community college is naming their new field in his honor. One of his former classmates is making a sculpture of him. He was always fascinated with Koby's art and can't wait to see what he has planned. Koby knows who he is and who he is attracted to. Vince didn't have doubts until now, but he is open to exploring.
Learning new things about yourself while dealing with recovering and reconnecting with family and friends is hard enough, but throw in a new possible romance and dealing with someone that is bent on destroying the art and it can make anyone stressed.

I loved Koby and Vince. I found them to be open and accepting and wonderful characters. I really liked how open Vince was and appreciated everything that Koby went through.

I received an ARC of this book from LesCourt Author Services. This is my honest opinion and review. I also purchased a copy since I loved it so much.

Masterpiece, by HJ Welch, is a m/,m romance set in Hidden Creek Texas. We get a peak into the mind and heart of out and proud artist Koby Duvall and supposedly straight NFL star Vince Russo. It is sweet, sexy and entertaining.

When Vince is back home to heal from an injury, Koby is brought on to create a sculpture of the Footballer in honor of a new addition st 5heir college. Time spent together, creating art and getting to know one another, leads to the two men to bond in ways they never imagined and a romance blooms, changing Vinces ideas on his sexuality. But what happens when the NFL comes calling again?

I love their story, there are funny moments, sweet times and sexy scenes that leave the reader satisfied. There is a but drama and a mystery of who done it. It definitely makes me want to read more about Hidden Cteek and their interesting inhabitants.

I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest post review and recommendation

Masterpiece is HJ Welch's addition to season three of the Men Of Hidden Creek series by various authors.

This story centers around Vince and Koby, as Vince is home to recover from a football injury. They were never friends before, but while Koby works on creating a sculpture of Vince for the school, they find that they may be good together.

They are certainly complete opposites physically. Vince is a tough, strong football player, while Koby's small, nonbinary and pansexual. Vince is struggling with his injury, while the lonely Koby's finding some companionship for the first time.

Their story is tender and sweet, with some fantastic sex scenes, including the small man topping. Yay!

Unfortunately, they also have their fair share of issues, including a homophobic friend and attacks.

Masterpiece is a riveting Christmas romance. HJ Welch has created two wonderfully complex men who completely capture one another's heart, as well as mine.

Good

I received this book by the author and this is my honest opinion.
This is a first in my delve into the hidden creek franchise and I got to say I enjoyed it. It's a standalone so i wasnt confused on what's what's though of course the characters mentioned in the book have obviously had there stories but it did not detract from this one. The world building was top notch so that it was easy to imagine hidden creek actually existing.
This story was about Vince an American football player who is out of action at the moment due to a head injury but still has the duty of following its dictate to be sculpted and this is where we meet colby. I liked that it was a slow burner and not just a wam, bam, thank you sir plot as the characters had a bit of emotional turmoil to get through first. Although a sporty theme story it was not overloaded which I was pleased about as I can go off a book by this but the writing was paced well that it was an enjoyment to read

Vince is a football star and local celebrity in Hidden Creek. When he is benched following an injury he goes back to his family to recover. The local college decide to honour him by commissioning a sculpture and they approach Koby, who was at college at the same time as Vince. Koby is less than thrilled at having to spend time with the jock but is very pleasantly surprised when Vince turns out to be very kind, open-minded and down to earth. Vince becomes friends with Koby and is shocked when he suddenly starts to feel an attraction to the other man.
I absolutely love how complex and totally sweet Koby and Vince both are as characters. Koby has himself totally figured out and Vince is so open to the new, unexpected side to his sexuality. They wormed their way into my heart very quickly. Another fantastic read from Ms Welch.

Masterpiece is based on a familiar trope, but the author makes it feel new again.
Vince and Koby are a lovely couple.
Vince is a bit naïve about certain things in life but his character is strong and endearing, and his soft heart is touching. He does not allow himself to deny his feelings for Koby even though it might compromise his relationship with his family and his career in football.
Koby is strong but, at times, world-weary. He does not allow people to keep him down even when they resort to violence. He bends but doesn’t break. I like that.
I also like that Vince remembers Koby as one of the cool kids in high school. Not nerdy, or artsy fartsy. Cool.
Together they fill the empty places in each other’s hearts and lives.
I enjoy this author, and I enjoyed this book. I look forward to more.

Yay! Koby finally gets his man! I really liked his character in the previous season, and I loved how he was pansexual, aromantic, and agender. It was great to see more of the spectrum represented. Koby is an artist who gets commissioned to make a sculpture of a football player. They had gone to school together in the past, but they had a really great reunion with Vince actually taking time to really get to know Koby. They were super sweet together, and I liked watching Vince work out what his priorities in life were. The vandalism was a little obvious and I didn’t feel we got much real insight into what happened there, but then again that wasn’t a real defining point in Vince and Koby’s relationship so I guess I am ok with that.
Great book.

This was surprisingly low on the coming-out angst. I was honestly expecting a lot more vacillation and denials from Vince than we got. What we saw instead was an earnest man who was willing to accept something new and different about himself with very little shame or inner turmoil. The passion he shared with Koby was sweet and a little hot but nothing to write home about because most of the story was spent educating us about labels and dividing the allies from the extremely homophobic responses. Koby was an anticipated character for me and he did live up to the kind, supportive, creative, and straightforward person we caught glimpses of previously. Together he and Vince were more sweet than anything as was the response to their announcements. Overall this was a nice story that had a quick and low angst build-up to a genuine relationship.

First I would like to say I think this was better then the first book in the third volume of the Hidden Creek books. Each book is by a different author but I still felt this one has a much better flow to it. I enjoyed the budding romance and between the Koby and Vince and how, much like her book in Volume 1, the author chose to show a seemingly straight man discovering he is not so straight after all. And despite the lack of more confusion or time to think on Vince's side (which is something I would have liked to see as it felt a bit too fast) he goes into the relationship with Koby in a very healthy way. I do feel like it needed more, like it a bit too idyllic, with a very clear divide between the gay and the homophobic in the town, which is something you see a lot of in M/M books.
Either way this book was sweet enough to not make the parts that didn't work as well stand out too much and all in all i liked it.

When Koby is hired to do a sculpture of his former classmate, NFL player Vince Russo, he resents how the assistant dean favours Vince’s success while demeaning his.

Vince is recovering from a concussion, and may not be able to play football again. But, he’s home with his family, and is posing for s sculpture for the new college stadium.

They both remember the other, and form a friendship, which becomes a relationship, which lets them be vulnerable with and protected by each other.

There’s some good defining of LGBT terms here, and some great crossover with numerous other characters. I love Koby’s artistry and Vince’s openness. The high school football coach is the best, as is Vince’s Nona.

I generally enjoy H.J. Welsh's romances and this one is very enjoyable. Koby is a wonderful character with a bit of gender fluidity going on. He is a working artist in his hometown.

Vince is home with an injury in his football career and facing some tough choices about his life.

These two knew each other in high school and watching them fall in love as a adults is really lovely.

See Vince pay attention to aspects of life outside his sports is an interesting aspect of this book.

We get some nasty villains from the slyly nasty to the unhinged here which could have been handled with more care but the great thing is Koby saves himself.

Such a fabulous story of love, heartache and happy memories.
A story of finding love you weren’t really looking for.
A story of people rallying together, wanting everyone to feel included and apart of their community.
A story of self discovery and learning no labels are needed in life.
I loved Koby and Vince. They both had their own unique energy and charm. Both beautiful souls that capture your heart and attention!
I had a few laughs, I had a little tear.
I enjoyed the story line and all the secondary characters too!
A good read!

Koby and Vince

This is the third season of a series of books written by multiple authors, all based in the same fictional town. While you meet Koby and some supporting characters in previous books, this can definitely be read as a stand-alone without confusion.

I loved this book! Koby and Vince are complete opposites but the attraction is undeniable. Being around Koby makes Vince realize he may not be straight like he always thought. This book is sweet but also has some conflict and a bit of action. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I am swooning so much over this book!
I loved Koby from his first appearance, and Vince, the huge, big-hearted, open-minded NFL player is his perfect match.
On paper they seem to have nothing in common and should not work together at all, and yet, as working together on a sculpture shifts to something more, they find that the other is exactly what they were missing and didn't know to look for.
HJ Welch's writing is fresh and engrossing as always.

Fantastic story!!! Just all the feels for me.

I love Koby and Vnce in this story! The author did a remarkable job writing a story-line that would keep my mind engaged and made me feel all the way too.

I really enjoyed how we got to know each of these MC's and we saw their authentic vulnerable person. We saw the strength of their characters and we also saw their despair and pain.

Their connection was beautiful and steamy. Highly recommend!

Koby and Vince were just amazing. The artist and the jock. Acceptance shines through in this and it was so good to see Koby get his HEA! This was a fun, loving book with a little drama that was written really well. And seeing some of the men from previous books rounded out a great read. Jocks and artists can get along - and fall in love proving opposites do attract and stereotypes are made to be broken.

First time gay

I love the Men of Hidden Creek. Koby and Vince were destined to be together. A sexual awakening for Vince who had never been with another man before. Koby didn't want to have anything to do with Vince, he was the image of all the bullies from his school years, but he quickly learned that Vince was different. Some angst, a jealous, homophobic best friend almost ruins everything. Great read.

Surrounded by Love and Art

Returning home can be great. Or it can be traumatic. If your career is on the line and your future is uncertain you're bound to feel a little off balance. Especially when you find yourself attracted to someone you never expected.

A great romance. Crazy characters. A wonderful community.
