“You’re safe with me.” Officer Steve Marcus never felt ‘gay enough’ to come out of the closet, throwing himself into his police work rather than dwell on his loneliness. When he finds himself falling for fabulous Angel Valdez, he doesn’t think he can fight his true feelings anymore.

Hairdresser Angel may never have been lucky with men, but his priority has been devoting all his time to caring for his mom. An unexpected family inheritance is about to change his world, but with it comes trouble from his past.

When Angel’s no-good father comes back into his life to demand his share of the windfall, he unearths dark secrets in the process. Steve knows he’ll do anything to keep Angel safe, but his father won’t take no for an answer. Can Steve protect the man he loves before it’s too late?

Welcome to Hidden Creek, Texas, where the heart knows what it wants, and where true love lives happily ever after. Every Men of Hidden Creek novel can be read on its own, but keep an eye out for familiar faces around town! This book contains lonely hearts, the world’s worst father, and a true Christmas Angel.

Well Max has had us waiting for the big action packed story she has given us in the past. This time around, it's not as action packed but just as thrilling.

We get to see our favorite hairdresser Angel and police officer Steve find what they both need in each other. Taking care of his mom since he was a child, Angel has had no one to lean on but himself. In comes our Steve who just needs to find love and companionship. When these 2 happen to come together because of Angel and his new found inheritance causing him more stress and problems, Steve becomes the one person who Angel can rely and lean on when it all gets too much.

Max doesn't disappoint, when she creates an explosion wellllllll we all know it won't be disappointing. Maybe next time she can make sure ALL the villians are killed and not just hurt in our next little town.

2.5-3/5 (looks like a math problem)
About average. Okay chemistry between hairstylist Angel and cop Steve, but the father plot fell flat. Steve sees all the gay around town and it's acceptance and decides to accept his bisexuality. This coincides with being there to comfort adorable hairstylist Angel when his aunt dies leaving him $500,000. Which then brings his deadbeat father out of the woodwork because he feels he's owed that money because the aunt ruined his life . Angel is wholly committed to caring for his mother who has rheumatoid arthritis, to the detriment of his social life and wallet. She convinces him to take a chance on Steve. So the whole thing is a bit of a stretch, but a cute stretch.

It was pretty good. I don't really have the strongest feelings about this, which is both a positive and negative thing. It means I didn't hate it - there was nothing glaringly bad about this book. The plot was fine, I liked the characters. The writing was even decent. But there was nothing...more. I didn't love this. I didn't find it to be a page turner. I cared about what was happening but...I want to say it was almost predictable? It was just....not boring, exactly. But nothing spectacular. Which honestly sounds like a horrible review for this book, but I enjoyed it well enough. One of the better ones in the series so far for sure.

When Angel gets a windfall inheritance, things start happening at the house he lives in with his mom. Steve is a cop whose instinct is to save Steve, protect him from his father, who shows up demanding half the money.

Their connection means Steve is ready to come out as bi, and Angel is thrilled to have someone who cares about him and doesn’t see his mother as a burden.

Angel’s dad eventually goes too far, and all is resolved. Interesting story, I had imagined Steve as older from the previous books, but was able to reimagine him in my head. Angel is cute, and his mother wants happiness for her son.

Good light read.

Sweet and engaging story about finding that special someone romance. I really enjoyed this friends to lovers story. Accepting yourself and learning to value yourself are two of the main themes of this story.

Steve and Angel are both great characters that you will be rooting for. Finding their way to each other takes some time and i really enjoyed their journey. i love how the good guys win in the end of this fun story.

Love this series!

Great plot ! Just enough suspense and drama to make it a page turner. After getting a large inheritance, Angel and his mother are being threatened by Angel's father who had abandoned them many years ago. Officer Steve steps in to protect Angel. Angel is adorable. Steve had spent so long in the closet and feared coming out. But after getting to know Angel, there was no choice any more. I loved it.

I find with Max Hawthorne's books I like the romance and the heros but not the rest of the too crowded plot.

This remains the case with this Men of Hidden Creek addition.

Angel is wonderful. Steve is wonderful. They are great together. I love the tentative dating and slow fall in love.

Then we have the side plot of the dad that makes no sense and and other stuff.

So, I would rather the conflict just be about the two heroes being very different people. It is enough.

I absolutely loved Angel and Steve. They were fantastic. I adored them so much. I hate to say this, because I love all the guys in every book, but so far they're my favorite couple. Can't wait for the next book.

So exciting!

I love how the author's put this one in the middle. Perfect placement to fit the series flow. Excitement and danger mixed in with personal growth and romance with just the right balance of sexiness. Angel and Steve both deserved their happily ever after.

Good

This was a wonderful book to read and enjoy. Even though Steve and Angel were not from the same cloth, love conquers all.
