There’s no such thing as magic. Everything has a logical explanation, even when you can’t immediately see it. Nothing is impossible when looked at from the right angle.
Blake Harte has always lived by this mantra. It’s an attitude that has fared him well in Harmschapel after being faced with numerous bizarre murders and situations. But Blake’s beliefs are soon to be tested to breaking point when touring magician, Sebastian Klein, arrives in the village with his daughter, and glamorous assistant, Amelia, to perform their touring magic show.
Although reluctant to even watch the show, Blake and the rest of Harmschapel Police are soon called into action when Sebastian Klein performs the most baffling trick of his career. Just how many ways are there for a woman to completely vanish in front of an audience, especially when even the great Sebastian Klein has no explanation for what happened?
What initially looks like a big theatrical stunt soon leads Blake and the team to one of the darkest and most sinister cases they have ever come across. The disappearance of Amelia Klein threatens to explode in the ugliest way possible, and there is no way of telling just how many secrets she could expose if found...
Really atmospheric ;) Totally gripping and thrilling. The crime case was underlined with an unpleasant topic; it made my stomach ache sometimes because it hit me pretty hard. (more to this later in a longer review). I think this book would have deserved some trigger or content warnings in this case.
The way the book ended was surprising and we have a cliffhanger. I'm really curious what we get in the next book and I have so many questions. OMG
🔎 ATMOSPHERE, Book 9 of THE BLAKE HARTE MYSTERIES, is another worthy addition to the series. I have truly enjoyed reading each book of this series and recommend the books to anyone who enjoys mysteries with some unexpected twists and turns. (👬 I will note -for those who might care- that this series does contain M/M romance/relationships, but the relationship of the two main characters is not the main focus of the series AND I hope that readers are accepting and open-minded enough to not allow that to prevent them from reading some really enjoyable books. ❇☺❇As a side note, I have really enjoyed Blake and Harrison's slow-building relationship and support their bond, and I hope to see it continue to grow stronger as the series progresses. 💕Personally, I would love to read more about their personal connection and life in upcoming books -- not to replace the main storylines revolving around the cases/mysteries, but just as an "addition" to them. I believe this would facilitate stronger connections between the books' characters and us readers in addition to making the books even better. These books are good and the author has pent time and effort develpong the characters, but I really think the books would be even better if the readers felt more-connected to the characters. ☺) 👏 Robert Innes is a talented, creative and skilled writer. His mind must be fascinating! 😱 ❗OMG! ❗Just so you know...the ending of this book will leave you WANTING Book 10 to be released NOW!!! I wanted to be able to read the next book right after I finished reading the last words of this book. ⚪⚪⚪💥!!WOW!!💥⚪⚪⚪We have been left with an intriguing cliff hanger to lead us into the next book! .......But don't worry! The mysterious case in this book was solved and completely wrapped up!!..... .......It might be better to consider this book's ending as more of an "appetiser" for Book 10 instead of a "cliff hanger". ⚠ The last couple of pages provide readers with some surprising information about who Tom is along with supplying some clues regarding his intentions and why he is really in Harmschapel. ⚠ [Remember Tom? He's the son of Blake & Harrison's landlady/friendly neighbor; he's been trying to break them up and continues to try to create problems for them--especially Blake.] ❇📑❇ I am hoping.... I am crossing my fingers.... I might even be begging.... Please!, oh, PLEASE! --- I hope Book 10 is finished and released SOON!! 😁
This is a great mystery series. The characters are wonderful, the cases leave you guessing until the end. And the ongoing mystery that is Tom, has all of us on the edge just waiting!
Another great addition to the series! This time I wasn’t as surprised by the mystery, I had figured most of it out. The ending though. For the first time there was a cliffhanger.
I really enjoy the Blake Harte mysteries. This installment made me sad and mad but was well done. I look forward to reading the next and finding out how the ending turns out as this was a cliffhanger!
I like this series and keep up with Blake and Harrison as soon as new book arrives. This was shorter than most and not difficult to figure out. Ending leads to the next book...
Another mystery solved by DS Blake Harte. I can't wait to read the next book, to see who attacked Tom, and what he and his father is plotting. I find this series very mysterious and interesting, and I highly recommend it.
This series of short novels are nice quick reading for a diverting afternoon. Lead characters are likable and have heart. Looking forward to more from this author.
3.5* Ah the old smoke and mirrors gets a dust off. More of Harrison in this one though less of them as a couple. Blake gets to the dirty bottom of the case eventually. Tom is stick sticking his oar in and we get to find out a little bit of why right at the end!
Goes to a darker place than I expected but manages to pull it off. Not sure I buy the solution but everything else was entertaining enough to not be bothered about it. Some of the minor recurring characters are kind of annoying in this. Great cliffhanger
This series is almost becoming the movie theatres serial cliffhanges, ala, Buck Rogers and others. Lots of fluff and not many surprises but with likeable characters, we keep reading and waiting for the next installment. The mystery wasn't hard to solve; however, we are left with the bigger question of what Tom is up to. Guess we will find out in the next book.
I loved this book because it was something different and wasn’t something I could figure out. If left me with a big cliffhanger too which has made me keen to read the final book!
