What would you do if a sniveling slime ball of a king tried to steal one of your harem members/minions? Would you stand for his insult? Or… Would you kill all of his supporters, take his riches and kingdom for yourself, and rip every last ounce of stolen power from his body? Yeah, pretty sure you'd do the second one too.
Mostly simplistic with detours to creepy town The number one question I walked away with was: Why did I keep reading this? There are moments of charm here and there that are shattered by the main character gloating over how much he likes to watch people suffer. The female companions he has gathered around him are not totally incompetent but seem like little more than than an audience for the MC's ego. Some of the dialog is so mind numbingly stupid that I was left dumbfounded. And yet I keep turning the pages, so there you go. I can say with all honesty that this fluff is very fluffy and will not challenge your intelligence or over tax your mind. there are two sex scenes that are very brief.
No Big Surprises, More Omnipotence Master, Morrigan the elf, Carmedy the Cat Person, Rana the fox person, and Annalise the fighter (and soon to be discovered princess).
The pushers of Annalise are finally confronted, and it turns out, big surprise, Annalise is a princess who has run away from her responsibilities since she doesn’t want to be married to an old man in a marriage of political expediency.
Long journey through the desert, to get to a dungeon which is hidden underwater. Its very confusing as to whether the water is a fresh water oasis, or an inland sea, as the author and characters go back and forth between observing sea creatures, and planning on drinking the water, etc. The dungeon is overcome by killing a big sea titan.
A siege on the castle of Allistair, who has kidnapped Annalise presumably to return her to her father in exchange for a bounty. Fights with dune worms. Pierce the mage wall protecting the castle. Attack on castle which involves wiping out hundreds of soldiers with very short descriptions. Allistair turns into a big snake, so Master uses a new power to summon a giant treat to kill the snake. Anti-climatic. The wizard who build the mage wall around Allistairs castle is also the wizard that has Rana’s family held captive, small world.
Continues to lack good combat descriptions, but they wouldn’t matter since its constantly emphasized that Master is omnipotent, and he won’t let any hard come to his minions. And additionally, he’s now claimed if his body is slain, he’ll come back but it will be an inconvenience because he’ll come back at the location of his original dungeon.
The book ends with a promise that the team will take on Annalise’s father and suitor so that she won’t be pursued forever.
There was potential in the first volume, but the second has not lived up to it. It started to get formulaic and it was already quite dumb downed so the repetition did not help its case. There is no set of rules for magic known to the audience and the continue to use same spells, it makes it feel unimaginative. There is not really any clever use of the power DM gets from the dungeons. And the role of mentor just feels excuse to mc to be passive. DM's character of being evil but actually is good guy with main fault of liking torturing his enemies. It's not even clear why is he evil or why does he want to conquer the dungeons. Because he is evil... or "dark" god. Even the Dark or light is magic/power is not set nor defined. And supporting cast doesn't really have much going on with them. They try to have strong independent personalities but are quite malleable and dull. Any attraction doesn't feel organic. I gave the series a honest shot (two actually) but I don't think I'll continue with this.
Having read the book on release there are several errors (grammatical, wrong names used, and typos) that need fixing, I’ll contact the author to get these corrected to stop it from detracting from a very enjoyable book. I thought this one was even better that the first as the characters seem to be more comfortable in their roles and personalities, and the action seemed better paced than the previous book. The MC is still very over powered for the enemies faced so far which leaves the minions as the weak link. The girls seem to be skilling up and have improved their abilities greatly since they appeared in the first book.
This book is seriously lacking in consequences and trepidation, there aren’t any stakes. The all powerful MC is there just in case something goes wrong, and it just ruins the fun out of everything.
I dont mind OP mains, but there needs to be some sort of obstacle to be overcome. I dislike that the main antagonist is beaten by “just a measly summon”. Theres just no anticipation to the fights, and we always no the outcome from the get go
Eric Vall has show us again he a talented and skilled Author with his second book of this series the characters are well written and informed we get to know more about the characters and the secret there a hiding I can't wait to buy the next book and I would buy this series if it came out on Audible 12/10 Great work Eric Vall. ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆.
A new continent, new culture, new monsters and dungeons, our lovely party of gorgeous dungeon conquerers and the Master embark on more fun, adventure and deal with unsavoury characters with their own brand of justice.
Always a blast and I'm already downloading the next book!
The dark god is continuing his crusade of conquering all the dungeons but now for more reasons than he started off with. The book wasn't bad there is a bit of sexual content throughout this series so far.
Nice guy playing at being all powerful. First time writing a review, but I believe that those that give this good reviews must just be much younger than me and are rating the book based on potential.
I really liked this one. He showed more powers and some of the ones that he took. The passion just grows EEEK!!! I love it!! A man after my own heart <3 cant wait for more!!!
It’s a nice change of pace to read about a character that is over powered from the beginning and the different characters that cross path with the main character are interesting.
The combat was well written and the characters continued to grow. The female character each have very unique personalities. Only draw back is master is kind of a impetus name to go by. I myself even if I was a God wouldn't chose it Dark lord or simple dark would do.
Awesome follow up to the first book. I cannot wait for the next book. The characters are lovable and well developed. Plenty of action, very difficult to put down.
Ok I just started his books today and I'm already on number 3 off this series. I really like them I hope I'll finish number 3 soon and he make a 4th book
Just can't get into this series. It's good but kind of boring and repetitive. Also, the sex scene with Carmody kind of felt like a guy having sex with a 14 year old. It was pretty creepy.
