A HISTORY OF TROUBLE A Beacon Hill Sorcerer Collection
A collection of brand-new short stories, featuring characters from The Beacon Hill Sorcerer Series by bestselling author SJ Himes.
Red Wine and Blood The Blood Wars raged for centuries across Boston. Witness a brief glimpse into the brutal history of the Wars with Ignacio Salvatore and the vampire he loves, Ashwin Metcalfe, in 1897.
A History of Trouble Angel was joking when he asked O'Malley if someone resurrected a mammoth. Little did he know that was exactly what someone did. Experience the untold story of what happened that unfortunate night at the Boston Public Museum.
A Dragon in the City What happens when Eroch goes adventuring in Beacon Hill without Angel? Chaos, pure chaos.
Fae's Gold Daniel is helping the newly-resurrected fae Ruairi Brennan become accustomed to modern-day living. A boring trip to the bank quickly escalates, and Daniel calls Angel for help. The day goes downhill from there but ends in a comfy meal in a pub for an ancient fae warrior and a necromancer's apprentice.
This is a collection, featuring vignettes and short stories from the universe of The Beacon Hill Sorcerer series. For full enjoyment, the Beacon Hill Sorcerer Series Books 1 through 3 should be read before reading this collection.

I also write as Revella Hawthorne. I write mainly gay romance and erotica, but I am branching out into polyamorous groupings and LGBT+ characters.
Saving Silas is my only contemporary. Everything else is paranormal, urban fantasy, or scifi/alternate universe.
I'm a nomad--I move a lot. My health is sporadic, so when I'm feeling well enough is when I'm writing. Which is good, as otherwise, I think my suffering translates to boring stories. ;)
I've learned the hard way that I can't do release dates until a book is 100% DONE. No projected dates anymore. For up to date and accurate information, find me on Facebook and Twitter. I RARELY come to GR. It'll be months before I'm back again.
Any books I have reviewed are my own opinions and done so without malice. I won't review a book anymore if I can't give it 3 stars or higher. Most of my reviews are based upon how a book makes me FEEL. Entirely subjective and personal. Exceptions are in cases of plagiarism and intellectual property theft or a massively horrible formatting job or erroneous content (ie the title and blurb don't match the interior.)
I’m an unabashed fan of this series so of course, this small morsel of various vignettes barely whet my appetite.
Here, one gets a look at Angel’s ancestor Ignacio, who just so happens to be mated with vampire Ashwin, a pairing that surely deserves their own series about their adventures against the Macavoy and Melbourne clans, right? Pretty please with a cherry on top?
Toss in a “small” situation as Simeon and Angel handle a resurrected woolly mammoth wreaking havoc as it escapes Boston’s Museum of Natural History, add another wonderful look at the mind of the adorable and loveable Eroch, and mix in more delicious UST between apprentice Daniel, and the yummy fae Rory.
This was a fabulous indulgence making the wait for the next book that much more tortuous.
A History of Trouble is a most excellent collection of series related shorts that purely entertains, adding more memorable moments to this already wonderful urban fantasy series.
Many of the wonderful cast of characters are back, along with a few new but intriguing faces, but it’s the short told through the perspective of wee beastie, Eroch, Angel’s baby dragon familiar, that really steals the show here.
At this point, I’d read anything and everything Himes conjures up in this series. I can’t wait for more!!! 💖
Firstly I have to say this is a book for the fans. It’s the book we asked for. If you haven’t read the Beacon Hill Sorcerer Series this won’t mean a lot to you.
I’m obviously a huge fan and I make no excuses for my biased review.
Red Wine and Blood.
This is just a snippet featuring Ignacio Salvatore and his vampire lover Ashwin Metcalfe. This takes place in the year of the Blood Wars 103 on 1897 AD. I’m really hoping we get more of these in the future.
A History of Trouble.
This one features Angel working a case. He has six dead graduate students and an escaped ten thousand year old mammoth. I love anything that features Angel and Simeon. Plus we also get Eroch and Detective O’Malley.
A Dragon in the City.
Cute little Eroch. In this one we see things from Eroch’s POV and it’s wonderful and I love him even more, if that’s possible.
Faye’s Gold.
Angel and Simeon will always be my first Beacon Hill romance and as such they hold a special place in my heart. I’m eagerly awaiting Issac and Constantine’s story. But this anthology was stolen by Daniel and Ruairi.
Daniel decides to help Rory with the modern world.
“Rory, you need money. Modern money. You can’t buy coffee with gold nuggets or gems. I think. I might be totally wrong,”
But walking into the back with a fae lord and a bag of gold doesn’t prove to be as easy as Daniel had expected. When things go wrong Daniel is worried Rory will reach for his sword. It may be glamoured but it’s there. The police are called including everyone’s favourite grumpy detective. Angel and Eroch arrive to save the day and we all know how much dragons like gold.
I loved this short book but Faye’s Gold was my absolute favourite. I can’t wait for more of these two.
I really do love this author, so to get this surprise treat was totally awesome. I'll take any chance to catch up with Angel and his boys .... any chance.
This is a compilation of snippets about characters we already love and know and I inhaled every single word. That an author can put so much into these snippets speaks of her absolute genius!
Loved it and now I'm desperate for more. I'm greedy like that!
Loved it! This was just some snippets of the day in the lives of the guys and one in the past, but it was perfect. I can't wait for Daniel and Rory. And of course, I love Angel and how he protects his family. But I really enjoyed the one from Eroch's POV. Love that little dragon! It makes me want to go back and reread the other books.
This wasn't much just a few shorts that didn't do much but give us some extra time with some of our favorite characters. The first was of an ancestor of Angel's. His name Ignacio who happened to be mated with a vampire in his time. The second was about the 6 college kids who awoken a mammoth. They all ended up dead and Angel had to come save the day and put the mammoth down before it killed more. Parts of this story are mentioned in the third book. This just expands on it. Plus you get some more Angel and Simeon time. The third is a story told through Eroc's pov. Eroc is Angel's little dragon. The last was spent with Daniel and Rory. It was Daniel trying to help Rory fit into today's world as he has been stuck in a state of sleep for 240 years. Needless to say a trip to the bank didn't go well and Angel had to come save the day. I really wish we had more of Rory and Daniel's developing relationship. There is so much to be desired there. I'm sure this isn't the last we will be seeing of them.
This was an awesome short anthology with many funny and cute tidbits about BHS world and its inhabitants. From ancient Salvatore love story to Eroch's inner thoughts, this was a true gem. I loved every snippet! Eroch's POV was hilarious and offered insight into how he views the world around him and the affection he has for Angel. Daniel's sweet feelings for Ruairi made me want to hug the stuffing out of him! I need that story!!! Well, the mammoth is self-explanatory! A tiny adventure with colossal amount of fun. And Salvatore men riding horses to the rescue slightly melted my brain! Loved it! This was a total win for me!!!
This was such a treat! An assortment of short stories that fill in any little teeny gaps between the full-length stories. I didn't even realize gaps were present but I'm certainly not complaining!! First: Gives us a lovely prequel surprise and it made my heart dance. *heart eyes* Second: Eek, we get some extra insight into the mammoth zombie. *freaky face* Third: Takes us on a lovely jaunt with Eroch. *charming pets are charming* And lastly:Fae's Gold was by far my favorite and has me drooling for the final book. *grabby hands*
What a super collection of shorts, all falling under the label of ‘trouble’
1. Red Wine and Blood Vampire Ashwin gets into a bit of trouble while buying a bottle of wine. Just as well he can rely on his sorcerer mate Ignacio to give him a hand when things are getting tough. So a vampire/sorcerer bond happened in the history of the Salvatore clan before. Interesting. I liked these two and could have easily read more about them, but mainly I’d love to know where these guys are now. They are immortal after all.
2. A history of Trouble This rather amusing tale of a mammoth brought back to life did make my lips twitch, apart from feeling sorry for those misguided students who paid so dearly for their silly idea. Love how Angel controls the situation and sorts out all the trouble.
3. A Dragon in the City My favourite of the lot. Being in Eroch’s POV is simply delightful, chuckle-worthy and really sweet. BBQing pigeons has never sounded more attractive! It was also interesting to find out more about his backstory. And that little dragon certainly knows how to attract trouble.
4. Fae’s Gold We knew it was coming, but this is a very cute introduction to Daniel and Rory’s book. Daniel is the sweetest guy, but I do worry about his nightmare father still being alive. Poor Rory who still needs to learn so much about this new world gets into a lot of trouble at the bank.
This is a fabulous set of extra stories in the Beacon Hill Sorcerer universe. Don’t miss it!
Great collection of short stories from this wonderful universe SJ Himes has created. The first short is about Angel's ancestors and quick look at their relationship - one is a mage like Angel but with dealing with the air, wind and such and the other is a vampire - pretty close to Angel and Simeon. It's a nice look into that time in the Salvatore history.
The second involves Angel having to stop a zombified Wooly Mammoth and of course it can't ever be easy so there's a bit of excitement surrounding that. And then we get a nice little scene of Angel and Simeon alone ;)
The third story we get is from Eroch's POV and you would think reading from the POV of a dragon would be weird but it oddly works, and Eroch is so cute, too.
The last one was my fave of the bunch - even though I loved all of them - because it's about Daniel and Rory. Daniel is SOOO smitten with Rory and who knows how Rory is feeling, but I bet when we get to their book, well, we'll know ;). But Daniel feels Rory should get modern money so he and Rory go to a bank to exchange gold for money when the manager mistakes Rory for his brother Cian and calls the police and it's a whole production. But thankfully there is Angel to the rescue, and it all gets sorted out. Rory and Daniel are SO cute and great together already I can't wait for their story.
Read this a bit out of order since they all take place at least before book 4, but now I’m so excited for Daniel and Rory’s story I can’t hardly wait for it!
What a great collection of stories set in the BH verse. I loved the one with Eroch’s POV, ahhh the best wee beastie.
I was definitely left wanting with the first story but I hope it will be addressed later.
I enjoyed all of the stories really, but I really loved Eroch's POV.
Such a good series with amazing world building. The writing is pretty great too. The author has a way of describing everything that it is kind of lyrical but it doesn't go overboard.
Adorable, adorable stories. I initially gave up this series after the second book but this little nugget of a novella (?) has reignited my interest for this series! 🤩 So yes, I’m gearing to read book 3 😇
A Wonderful addition to the Beacon Hills Sorcerer series. I like all the characters in the books, and I am very upset that I don't have a cute tiny Dragon. Eroch is one of my favourite characters ever, and it was a bonus to have one of the stories from his POV. BHS is one of the best fantasy series out there, and the fact that it is a MM book is just a bonus.
Some cute stories about our friends of Beacon Hill. My favourites, the one about Eroch, he is just so cute, and the one about Daniel and Ruairí. I'm looking forward to read about them.
I got this because of Ignacio & Ashwin . I enjoyed their tale but ultimately I was unsatisfied... I hope we get to see more of them in subsequent books...
Want another story from Eroch's (aka Wee Beastie) POV? How about an extra story from Daniel's POV that highlights the UST between him and Rory? Want an extra story from Angel's POV where he uses his necromancy? Want to listen to it all with Joel Leslie's amazing voice in your ears?
I loved listening to this collection of vignettes and short stories from The Beacon Hill Sorcerer series universe. I love these characters, and especially Leslie's performance of them, and it was really nice to get to spend a little more time in Beacon Hills.
A collection of short stories that warm your heart. I'm just so in love with Eroch and that last chapter for Daniel was amazing and definitely what I need after finishing book 3.
I saved this book for when I finished the series. It was so nice to revisit the characters. I also have a thing for the mansion. I really believe there is another story there.
