5 stars! Such an amusing read and a fun learning experience too.

This book tackles a lot issues under different topics; Relationships, Work, Lifestyle, Leisure, and Politics, providing different perspectives on how various philosophers would likely approach various relevant life questions.

The best part was how the book was able to reword what would normally be an exposition relating to social injustice and turn it instead into a more relevant life question like "Why do I feel guilty walking past a beggar?". Or even explain John Stuart Mill's Harm Principle without overwhelming the reader with its theoretical framework. Definitely a good read not only for people who are already enthusiasts of certain philosophers for also for those who would want to learn more about their ideals applied in a more familiar setting.

I also loved how the book was both structured and random; throwing what would seemingly be a bunch of random questions and random philosophers although at the same time finding the perfect narrative that links everything together. For some recurring philosophers like Plato, Socrates, and even Kant-- the book also managed to apply their ideals in different instances and make it sound interesting and completely non-repetitive each time. Lastly, for some philosophers that I consider myself to be less knowledgeable of, like Diogenes of Sinope and Simone de Beauvoir, I actually ended up learning a lot even though the book probably only tackled a few of their beliefs but nonetheless explained it really well for me to get the gist and be interested enough to do more research on my own.

Overall, definitely worth the read!

This is a fun introduction to philosophy in which the author has attempted to answer everyday problems using the reasoning of some of the world’s most famous philosophers. While this book is fun, informative, and often funny, I would suggest that anyone with a serious interest in philosophy continue their research by reading some of the reference materials that this book was based upon. Some of the theories are quite limited, but the reader is given the general gist of the main argument. Any book that makes interpreting Kant easier, more relatable, and even enjoyable is a winner. In a weird fusion of self-help meets philosophy “What Would Nietzsche Do?” manages to be both informative and quirky enough to appeal to a wide variety of audiences. And anything that makes interpreting philosophy more accessible to shmucks like me gets the thumbs up.

Popular books on philosophy are, shall we say, very variable in quality, so I approached this book with some scepticism. I was pleasantly surprised: it is nicely done, readable and, so far as I can tell as a relative layperson, accurate in its representations of the thinking of some of the great philosophers.

The book presents itself as a sort of self-help solution to some of life's problems by following the advice of the great philosophers, and it is structured around some tricky questions which one might encounter in life. However, the answer to the question "What Would Nietzsche do?" is, "He'd ask a load of irritating questions rather than actually *do* anything." Of course he would – he's a philosopher, and that goes for all the other philosophers represented here, too. What we actually get, therefore, is a summary of the approach of various philosophers to the deeper moral problems and fundamental philosophical questions thrown up by the problem under consideration. In fact, this works very well – just don't expect much (if any) direct guidance or instruction about what you should actually *do*.

Marcus Weeks knows what he's talking about and presents it in a readable and accessible way, without patronising his readers or trivialising his subject. I rather liked the slightly comic-book presentation (although a rather larger font for the main text would have been welcome) and overall I think this is a good introduction to a wide range of thought. It's structured so that you can dip into it easily, which is always a good idea in books like this, and I found it an enjoyable and interesting read. Recommended.

I always had an interest in philosophy but didn't have enough courage to explore it. I found this book in a local bookstore and I thought, OK no excuses, lets do this...I am glad I did picked it up. I was able to read it in two days which is a record for me. Very good 101 introduction for someone who is curious about philosophy. Easy read, the writer captures the interest with his witty approach to issues seems complicated. I loved the questions posted in the book, posed couple of them during friends and family gathering and ended up with memorable conversations (no one used the cell phone!). It would have been helpful if a time line table was added maybe to the end of the book with the names of the philosophers referenced in the book, simple table with names and dates would have been sufficient.

Good read with basic philosophical questions (and some irrelevant ones too). Makes you question ways you interpret the world around you, and highlights some masters that questioned the reality and life itself before you!

This was a fun, enjoyable read, introducing philosophers and their main ideas in an engaging and sometimes humorous way. The writing is funny and unjudgemental - Marcus Weeks does not express judgement for or against ideas, he merely presents them objectively, making it easier to make my own opinions about whether I like the ideas or not.

Philosophy is cool because there's a solution to many life problems - the only issue is is that every philosopher has a completely different answer!

I feel like this book needs to not only be read, but re-read a few time to fully grasp it. It’s really pretty with all the illustrations and graphs but because I barely understand the concepts of philosophy, I didn’t quite get it at first. But I’m glad that I have it and will re-read again.

A good coffee table book, but if your looking for something to better understand philosophy then this book may not be the one.

The positive things I found about this book:
-If you already have a basic idea of some elements of philosophy, and in particular the philosophers who support certain philosophical ideas/theories (for example existentialism and Nietzsche) then this book is a great way for you to see how they are applied in different ways to life;
-Each 'situation' that is covered in 3-4 pages has a great summary and includes a 'boiling down' of the situation into a 'Basic philosophical question' which I found really helpful in understanding. As an example, the situation 'I'm having a silent battle with my partner about the setting of the thermostat for our heating', the 'Basic philosophical question' is 'Can a point of view have absolute truth or validity?'; and
-The structure is easy to follow and the style is aesthetically pleasing.

The negatives of the book:
-If you don't have a good understanding of the basics then if can become very confusing when reading across situations. As the references are to individuals rather than philosophical ideas/theories. I constantly found myself flicking back and fourth seeing if the person I was reading about now was the same one that commented on a separate 'situation' in the book; and
-The book needs an introduction or initial chapter that provides a brief summary of each philosophers basic philosophical ideas/theories in order for the reader to better understand their stance on each of the situations better.

It should be explained from the beginning that the book offers not only the possible interpretations of Nietzsche, but also the answers and approaches to today's questions and problems with the possible answers of many philosophers. Don't get hung up on the title of the book.

Viewpoints and ways of thinking are so prominent that the individual existence of the philosopher no longer matters. Now, solutions and answers are given to today's daily concerns in the context of Aristotle's way of thinking, Beauvoir's and Nietzsche's thought systems. therefore, it is a question of designing the thinker in thought. Of course, it is not necessary to stick to the book. At this point, the fact that the book was left open to develop counter-discourse by loading human imagery caused the book to flow like water. ''No! does not say so. I think...'' I began to realize that I was talking to myself. That's why it's a good practice book.

Of course, I will also criticize the book. It is necessary to refer to the unprocessed and excluded. For example, instead of approaches to daily problems, there should be a discourse on today's philosophy and global problems in the context of 21st century philosophy. The questions could have been thought of more professionally. likewise, it is not possible to float such thinkers in the shallowest waters possible, but it is certainly worth reading. I say it's readable after destroying it too.* Anyway. It's my recommendation though.

What Would Nietzsche Do? is pocket philosophy at its finest. I absolutely loved the premise of this book: everyday situations and thoughts looked at through the perspective of different philosophers. I think this is a good book to read if you are interested or new to philosophy.

It is well organized into different sections, each covering a different aspect of life. Among them, things like work, personal life and deeper questions such as the fear of death and the meaning of life. Every chapter offered something new and although I was already familiar with a lot of these philosophers and ideas, it made me look at things from another perspective and I learned things that I had never considered before. I think that What Would Nietzsche Do? is worth your time and I will probably read the other books in the series sometime soon (What Would Marx, De Beauvoir, Freud Do?).

Final Score: 75/100

Okuyun, seveceksiniz 👍🏾

This book is a good introduction to Philosophy and various philosophers. It does this by asking everyday questions or moral conundrums that the ordinary person might face and explaining how the great philosophers would answer these. In the process the reader is introduced to a range of philosophies and the principles behind them. As a bonus the author has taken the effort to include a range of philosophers in order to demonstrate that philosophy is not exclusive to older white men as is commonly portrayed. Recommended for people wanting to get in philosophy or just want to get a good grasp on the basics.

Finally finished this, after almost giving up on it. It's pop philosophy, and I read it in Turkish which added a bit of charm. I guess it could be considered a good primer, but it's very surface-level and of course male-centric, so I'd recommend something like The Philosopher Queens: The lives and legacies of philosophy's unsung women to accompany it, if you want to dip your toes in philosophy, broadly speaking.

Gave up reading this book. The content is superficial and has no clear structure. It often mixes several unrelated topics into a small section. As a result, I need to refer to a lot of other materials when writing notes. But since I have already written some notes and can’t let them wasted, I will put suspend reading this book first, and then return to this book after my understanding of philosophy has been strengthened. Organise my notes based on general points of the book and remind readers no need to read the book, but they can read the notes I wrote.
4.5 /10 between partially useful to poorly written.

Really engaging read- especially because I have no knowledge of philosophy at all. It has definitely aroused in me an interest to find out more about these philosophers and their thoughts, and in reading this, it has allowed me to have greater clarity in my life. I had to make my own decisions on which philosophers I agreed best with on different subjects. These concepts could be hard to apply on its own but is much easier to understand through the questions posed by the author.

A great read.

A good introduction to philosophy, covering as it does the ideas of many key thinkers through the prism of everyday concerns. Does get a bit unwieldy in the final chapter though, a philosophical question theme is used in two adjacent chapters, we are told with no citations that there are enough resources for all eight billion humans (ecological literacy be damned) and violent revolution even seems to be encouraged. Since when has a revolution had net good outcomes as regards suffering mitigation?

Amazing!!
It's like I have entered a cafe housed with all philosophers
Every question was answered very precise and simple
I had an beautiful experience whenever I read nonfiction books these philosophers come in between by Moped and amuse me but when I decided to read about any specific philosopher look dry and boring after few pages
This book topple you with amazing insight and humorous
You can meet almost all of the philosophers here in this book and shake hands..
A great book!!
