Fern Michaels isn’t a person. I’m not sure she’s an entity either since an entity is something with separate existence. Fern Michaels® is what I DO. Me, Mary Ruth Kuczkir. Growing up in Hastings, Pennsylvania, I was called Ruth. I became Mary when I entered the business world where first names were the order of the day. To this day, family and friends call me Dink, a name my father gave me when I was born because according to him I was ‘a dinky little thing’ weighing in at four and a half pounds. However, I answer to Fern since people are more comfortable with a name they can pronounce.

As they say, the past is prologue. I grew up, got a job, got married, had five kids. When my youngest went off to Kindergarten, my husband told me to get off my ass and get a job. Those were his exact words. I didn’t know how to do anything except be a wife and mother. I was also a voracious reader having cut my teeth on The Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Cherry Ames and the like. The library was a magical place for me. It still is to this day. Rather than face the outside world with no skills, I decided to write a book. For some reason that didn’t intimidate me. As my husband said at the time, stupid is as stupid does. Guess what, I don’t have that husband any more. Guess what else! I wrote 99 books, most of them New York Times Best Sellers.

Moving right along here . . . Several years ago I left Ballantine Books, parted company with my agent, sold my house in New Jersey that I had lived in all my married life and in 1993 moved to South Carolina. I figured if I was going to go through trauma let it be all at one time. It was a breeze. The kids were all on their own at that point. The dump was a 300 year old plantation house that is listed in the National Registry that I remodeled. Today it is beyond belief as are the gardens and the equally old Angel Oaks that drip Spanish moss. Unfortunately, I could not get my ghost to relocate. This ghost has been documented by previous owners. Mary Margaret as we call her, is “a friendly”. She is also mischievous. It took me two weeks to figure out that she didn’t like my coffee cups. They would slide off the table or counter or else they’d break in the dishwasher. I bought red checkered ones. All are intact as of this writing. She moves pillows from one room to the other and she stops all the clocks in the house at 9:10 in the a.m. at least once a week. When the Azaleas are in bloom, and only then, I find blooms on my night stand. I have this glorious front porch and during the warm months I see my swing moving early in the morning when the air is still and again late in the day. She doesn’t spook the dogs. I always know when she’s around because the five of them line up and look like they’re at a tennis match. As of this writing we’re co-habiting nicely.

Most writers love what they do and I’m no exception. I love it when I get a germ of an idea and get it down on paper. I love breathing life into my characters. I love writing about women who persevere and prevail because that’s what I had to do to get to this point in time. It’s another way of saying it doesn’t matter where you’ve been, what matters is where you’re going and how you get there. The day I finally prevailed was the day I was inducted into the New Jersey Literary Hall of Fame. For me it was an awesome day and there are no words to describe it.
I’ve been telling stories and scribbling for 37 years. I hope I can continue for another 37 years. It wasn’t easy during some of those years. As I said, I had to persevere. My old Polish grandmother said something to me when I was little that I never forgot. She said when God is good to you, you have to give back. For a while I didn’t know how to do that. When I finally figured it out I set up The Fern Michaels® Foundation.

Super short audio FTW!

Whisper My Name was a pretty short book. I think about 4 hours? but don't quote me on that because it depends on what speed you are listening on. The characters in this were okay.. but some things that happened - I just didn't agree with.

One, I hate the name Gemini/Gemina/Jemina - any name that sounds like it basically. All because of one book.. ugh, I wont even mention it. Sorry to people who actually have that name - I don't hate you.. just the name. Also.. pretty sure the character died.. so yeah, there's that too.

Second, Sam has terrible love choices. I don't see how or why she is with that guy Christian.. but yeah - whatever. Thank u next girl. I didn't care about their relationship and was waiting for the plague, or something, to roll on through. Their "marriage" was just meh to me and I didn't really understand it. Probably because I just gave zero interest in them and their "love" felt forced.

Overall, I kind of wish I never saw this book.. but I'm okay that I got it out of my system.

Dated to the time period in which it was written. Couldn't understand why Sam would fall in love with such an unpleasant person.

What simpering twit for a heroine. This would have been acceptable if set 75 years ago, but in present day it stinks.

This would have worked better if it had been one of those over-the-top rom coms, as a book it just got annoying. What really bugged me was all the stuff about the alcoholic cats! The H's eccentric old aunt enjoyed her gin (which is what probably killed her) and thought nothing of making her pet cats ("Gin" and "Tonic", cute, huh? NO!!!!) her drinking buddies, leaving them addicted to the stuff! This was supposed to be funny????? NOT TO ME!!!! I didn't find the old woman charming; I thought she was bat crap crazy and her ridiculous scheme to get the H and h together did a lot more harm than good, not to mention being a waste of time, as they had gotten off to a good start without her "help", and all that did was mess things up for WAY TOO LONG!

Without going into details and giving anything away, I'll just say that the h didn't do anything wrong, but thanks to Old Bat Crap, the H got the impression she was a scheming gold-digger, and his whole attitude changed. He kept insulting the h, making snarky remarks, accusing her of this, that and the other thing, and not giving her a chance to explain! (True, she should have told him the truth from the start, but it was one of those things where the timing was never right.) And then, when he gives her some time to talk, he doesn't believe a word she days! After a time, you get so sick of his attitude you want to choke him!!

I'm not one for groveling scenes unless they're needed, and this book sure needed one, but it wasn't there!! I thought the h was too easy on him, too quick to forget every hurtful thing he said and the way he acted. This guy needed to earn his HEA; it came too easy for him!

Two things I learned from this: what a shock, blanket is (I had never heard of one before), and that if you're lost in the desert and in need of water, look to the birds as they fly (not vultures, of course), as they tend to land where there's a water source. Even predatory birds will head for places where they can target their prey, and those targeted animals will b near a water source.

Well, if you're ever stuck in the desert, it could come in handy!

This novel is a conflict of love and money. Why Gemini left shares of her property to her friend Samantha. Gemini’s old wise owl plan was magnificently well planned. Samantha is stunned by seeing the will of her friend Gemini . And When Samantha met her new boss she was shocked that it was Gemini’s nephew with whom she falls in love long back. Then the twist and turns between Sam and her boss will take the story to another level. Can Sam get her love or it fails …? A lite read romance .

To me,this book was as cheesy as grilled cheese sandwich and containing even less substance. It's like a hamburger with no patty in the middle. It was just boring to me. There wasn't much to this story and again the characters weren't really interesting or likeable. I couldn't quite understand why they fell for each other. I could not wait to finish this book. I knew this book wasn't one I bought but one that probably was in a group of books given to me by an aunt.I may pass this book on to donation.

This book was okay. I’m not a fan of instant love and the two fall for each other as soon as they meet. A confession that should have been told gets way out of hand. The female was “oh I love him” when he is such a jerk to her after she tells him what happened. It was a enjoyable book but wasn’t a fan of the characters. Story was good just not my taste.

Even knowing this was an 80s romance before I listened to the audiobook, I was floored how bad it was. Sam's stupidity of not just explaining who she was from the very beginning was ignorant and not entertaining at all. She lied by omission to Christian again & again throughout the story and it got old fast. I would not recommend this one to read/listen to.

I’m a big fan of Fern Michael’s story’s and have read and really enjoyed many many of her books. I just didn’t understand why a woman in this day and age put up, much less fall for, a man that treated her the way he did. I read the entire story but have to say that this was not up to her usual writing. I’m still a fan Fern!

This is a cute short book about a nice girl that lives next door to a lady that dies and her will gives her lots of money. Since her name is Sam, everyone thinks she is a boy and the people looking to refute the will can't find "him". Cute ending.

Thank goodness this was an early book in Fern Michaels career and times have changed. I agree with others who wrote, 2 hours I cannot get back. Disliked both characters.

Sam acted like a 16 year old and Christian a jerk and predator in todays world. Times were different 40 years ago. 🤢

Oh, man. This was my first Book by Fern Michaels and I wish I would have started with a different one. It was one of the few of her audios available through my Overdrive, and I wanted to give her a try. I will try another contemporary to see if it's me or the style.

Gemini Delaney had left her beloved friend Samantha Blakely controlling interest in her family business, a magazine conglomerate--the same conglomerate that owned the magazine that had just hired Sam as a photojournalist. Now, she couldn't tell her new boss, Christian Delaney, that she was "the" Sam Blakely who had inherited his rightful legacy. If he discovers the truth, he'll have every reason to hate her. What Sam needs now is a loophole.
A cute little action packed novella, that you won't be able to put down. 5 stars.

This book is not romantic at all.. this guy is so creepy! How can she be so in love after just meeting this creep! The more time they spend together, the creepier he gets! I normally like Fern Michael's books, but this one is horrible!

Wow, talk about boing and cliched! It was horribly written!. I can't believe I actually finished it. Although it was so short, it was almost like a novella rather than a whole novel.
