When Hexley Daggard Ragbottom sets off to find his Uncle Salazar, he expects to find the most powerful wizard of the modern age. Instead, he finds Uncle “Sally” only wants to kick back, relax, and stay clear of any kind of wizard politics. So how is Hex supposed to become a great wizard if all the adults are too lazy to teach him? Shaun Simon (The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys) and Conor Nolan (Jim Henson’s The Giants) present a humorous look at magic, family and just kicking back.

Not sure when I read this, I'm assuming March or April.
I found this to be a slightly bizarre but entertaining introduction to a cast of characters: Hexley, who is tired of his father fighting a losing war and so decides to find his uncle, the great and powerful Salazar; Uncle Sal, who is living a life of complete indolence relaxation on Wizard Beach; the rest of the varied members of the Wizard Council who have their own things going on. Uncle Sal encounters a Spice Demon in his cabinet which has to be pacified with salt and pepper 😆. This issue ends with Hex making to leave, disgusted by this cavalier lifestyle, but is prevented from doing so by some unseen force. Things are going to get more interesting in the next issue!
This comic seems to be about Hex, who is visiting Wizard Beach to save magic? Not totally sure. But he’s dissatisfied with how the other wizards are behaving on the beach and he makes that much clear.
The premise is interesting, but I feel like it’s taking on too much too soon and the cast/setting is so crazy it could become too much to digest in such a quick form. The beginning was already a lot, it took me a month to get through less than 30 pages.
It reminds me of the manga, Fairy Tail, in that it has a ton of characters, cool magic, and just a lot going on in general. We’ll see how it goes.
This was really cute. I like the premise. I like how it was set up, and how the world was explained. The exposition was clever, adding to the flavour of the comic. I really appreciated how flexible our protagonist Hex is, leaving home to accomplish a goal, learning it's not what he thought it would be, then turning his back on that first quest. It won't get him far, but it already shows that we've got a lot of character development coming and it's going to be believable.
I wasn't expecting much from this story and now I'm going to be selling it.
Great wars are here, the magic is disappearing. We need A hero. Meanwhile uncle Sam is busy being a beach bumm. Hilarious, rich, bizarre and very promising.
