There's No Such Thing as Vampires
When Joe Kinderman gave in to his fear of being hurt, he lost Casey to another man. When her car was found abandoned and bloody on the side of the road, he thought that she was gone forever. A camping trip leads to a startling discovery in the woods, and Joe gets the one thing he thought wasn’t possible: a second chance. “I have no idea where this is going, but I’m having a hell of a time.”
That quote from the author sums up my experience with There’s No Such Thing As Vampires. The book is a raucous, twist-filled adventure-mystery that kept me guessing at every turn; every time I thought I had it figured out, a line of subtle foreshadowing paid off and changed the direction entirely.
I couldn’t put it down, and when I had to, I couldn’t stop turning it over in my mind; it got it’s hooks into me and wouldn’t let go.
I was lucky enough to receive an advanced reader copy, but I liked it enough that I preordered a production copy, and will likely be giving copies as gifts.
If you like fast-paced, well-written, and highly-engaging urban fantasy/mystery, you will love this book.

This story starts out heading one direction, and seems perhaps a bit slow, but then it takes a delightful turn, and I just couldn't put it down. The characters and story are engaging and delightful. Well worth the read, and I am looking forward to more stories from this world and this author.

I had an advanced reader copy of this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was hooked from the beginning and cannot believe the turns the story took. The author’s conversational tone really engages the reader. Well written, highly recommend!

Wow!
This book caught me pretty quick and then it went to the point I didn't want to do my chores and business because id have to stop reading! It hooked me. If you like psychological thrillers that aren't horror, then you'll love this. Some may call it horror if they're squeamish but its really not.

This is the first book in the Chromatic &Fugue books
What can I say about this book it started off well enough we had a heart broken protagonist who was falling apart after he finds out that his one true love who had married someone else because he was dragging his feet was attacked on the way home from work and was presumed dead . Than the protagonist find out that this true love had been turned into a vampire after said true love saves him in the woods from bad vampires . But it turns out that ex-girlfriend is no ordinary vampire but a feral one and very powerful but has no sense of self so our protagonist set's out to take care off her until she can regain her senses and from anything that may want to harm her . Like other bad vampires who would want to use her for her power's but than or protagonist thinks it a good idea to drink his Ex's blood so he can turn in order to be able to protect his Ex better . The Ex finally comes to her senses not knowing what had happened to her so our protagonist explains what going on . After some time our vampire lover's decide to go out into the world to look for more of their kind . They find them right away but the Ex kills most of the ruling vampire council because oppress the weaker vampires and she thinks that it's not right and decides that things need to change but before she implement these changes she disappears leaving our protagonist lost and uncertain as to what happened and what's going on . known I would of had no problem with this scenario I believe that it would have worked . We have our protagonist trying to unravel just what happened to his lost love and who's behind it . BUT that's not how the rest of this book goes instead we're dealing with Evil trickster God's and some guy from a security firm and weird ass world changing conspiracy where bad God's get to choose their champions and good God's either interfere or don't because it's against the rules in the end I didn't like anyone . Not sure if I even want to read the other book's in this series .

This book was a trip, and not necessarily in a good way. I guess the realm of fantasy-psychological thrillers is a niche genre that doesn't really suit my tastes. I commend the author for her experimental style and for daring to write a plot that takes hard lefts and rights in unexpected directions, but I had a hard time keeping up with what was going on, and the strange mixing of mythologies, realities, and fantasy tropes was a mix of cool (in a "break all the rules" way) and frustrating (in the "I don't know what the rules are because you've broken all of them" kind of way).
As a writer myself, I admire the author's ability to write something original and mind-bending and wild. As a reader, I found the book disorienting and exhausting to read, especially since I rarely have the luxury to read in long, uninterrupted stretches, so the jumps in time within the plot were exceptionally hard to follow when coupled with the jumps in time in my real life when I found moments to come back to this book.
This is probably exactly someone's cup of tea, but not mine.
As a writer myself, I admire the author's ability to write something original and mind-bending and wild. As a reader, I found the book disorienting and exhausting to read, especially since I rarely have the luxury to read in long, uninterrupted stretches, so the jumps in time within the plot were exceptionally hard to follow when coupled with the jumps in time in my real life when I found moments to come back to this book.
This is probably exactly someone's cup of tea, but not mine.

Too long, poorly described
The book description doesn't come close to describing what a purchaser might find. Not a problem for me, I enjoyed it but many would be confused and give up.
The pacing dropped in the middle if what was probably meant to be the exciting bit.
The universe is unique and held together well. The characters are deep enough to be enjoyed, the story interesting but after 450 pages stopped on mid air. Even if there is a second in the series we need more than this.

Convoluted and confusing
While the mechanics were good, the story was far more complex than needed. The primary characters spent much of their time running around being confused and terrified. It wasn't until the conclusion that it is explained to us what has been going on, and then, we are still left hanging as to what the ultimate purpose of it all was. I was tired of it halfway through but persevered to the end because I wanted to see how it all ended.

I loved this book! Spooky, macabre, loaded with twists and turns! Keeps you on the edge of your seat and keeps you guessing all the way to the last page.
