Further research into Middle America bigfoot sightings indicates a strong connection between bigfoot and Native Americans, and witness descriptions show a strong human likeness. The latest research from the author of the groundbreaking The Hoopa Bigfoot Encounters in California named 2008 Bigfoot Book of the Year by Cryptomundo.com. Dave Paulides brings his law-enforcement investigative and analytical skills to an expanded area of the counties in Northern California that have reported the greatest numbers of bigfoot occurrences, and beyond to Minnesota and Oklahoma. Gaining access to many people who have never discussed their bigfoot experiences publicly before now, the author obtains intriguing details that broaden our perception of the elusive creature; and his subsequent analysis leads to the discovery of a strong and consistent link between bigfoot and the Native American community. The expert interview and artistic skills of forensic artist Harvey Pratt help to define the creatures described by the witnesses - - once again with astonishing and illuminating results. The presentation of startling new forensic evidence indicates that there truly is an as-yet-unidentified primate living in the wilds of North America, and the author hints at new data on the horizon that will finally provide the tantalizing truth about the existence of bigfoot in North America.
Following up his initial investigation into Bigfoot incidents and witnesses, a former police investigator expanded his search area in northern California as well as expanding out to Minnesota and Oklahoma. Tribal Bigfoot is David Paulides follow up to his first book, The Hoopa Project, in which he gathers more evidence and proposes a new theory about bigfoot today.
Expanding his research area to the northern California countries surrounding the Hoopa Valley, Paulides methodically examined the terrain and wildlife before looking for witness testimony for the viability of bigfoot in the area. Like his previous book Paulides spends most of his time going over the witness testimony—which are back up by affidavits—followed by his personal observations of the area where the incident(s) took place in each interview. Once again Paulides hired law enforcement forensic artist Harvey Pratt to draw sketches from the memories of witnesses he interviewed, and it is the result of these sketches and local Native American knowledge that Paulides made his big conclusion at the end of the book. Paulides believes that bigfoot isn’t an ape as some researchers believe but a homininan that can reproduce with humans which seems to be showing with the amount of a more human-looking bigfoot seen by witnesses than the ape-looking bigfoot of the Patterson-Gimlin footage. Like his previous book Paulides’ is a little dry in his style though his writing did improve as did his referencing between witness accounts.
Tribal Bigfoot continues David Paulides’ research into bigfoot in northern California as well as glance at Minnesota and Oklahoma. The book not only contains Paulides well done research, but also a theory that bigfoots and humans can produce offspring.
David Paulides has compiled an impressive follow up book to the Hoopa Project including more sketches by Harvey Pratt. It is a compelling line of research into the subject of Sasquatch with several witness accounts and results from hair and blood DNA evidence. The author and his research team venture into the conclusions that Bigfoot is actually an ancient race of indigenous people that have a unique set of features, strengths, skills and characteristics that have enabled them to elude survive outside the reach of man for hundreds of years. Overall, a very interesting book.
I commend David Paulides on all the hard work he puts into his books. The effort tracking down stories, people, making them feel comfortable, interviewing them (extracting the truth) and collating it all into a book makes this well worth the read.
I can only give this 4 stars though. I understand David's choice in keeping to "just the facts ma'am" but it can make for some dry reading. This doesn't read as much as an engrossing book detailing a close look at bigfoot from the perspective of native americans as much as it feels like 500 pages of police affidavits. But I can't fault David for doing so, as 500 pages of affidavits is what his goal was.
The bigfoot community owes a huge thank-you to all the hard work he's done. While everyone else is busy in-fighting, back-stabbing and adjusting their tinfoil hats, David is out in the field doing real investigation.
This book is a case study in Sasquatch where the author, David Paulides has brought science, data, sworn affidavits and statistics to that which is usually scoffed at. There is a connection between the tribal people of America and "te people of the forest"that is ever-present, timeless, beautiful and mystical. Some fear them, some do not but all know & respect them and all from the cradle to the grave believe in him.
Very thoroughly researched book. If you are not a believer in bigfoot after reading this book, I don't know what to tell you. The drawings of bigfoot are absolutely fascinating, especially when the hair is removed from their face and you realize how human they look!
This is truly one of the best Bigfoot books I have ever read. I have read a total of over 50 books. Mr Paulides does a very thorough job of researching this mystifying being. Thank you for your knowledge and your efforts to help those of us who are trying to have a better understanding.
Since the 1850s, both settlers and Native Americans have reported sightings of giant human-like or apelike creatures in the forests of North America. These beings, often referred to as wildmen, Hermit of Siskiyou, or hairy men, are commonly known today as Bigfoot or Sasquatch. Standing approximately 8 feet tall, these creatures are described as having massive, hairy bodies with minimal facial hair, revealing a human-like face beneath. The term "Bigfoot" was coined in the mid-1950s, but sightings predate this label. The creature gained widespread attention after the 1967 Patterson-Gimlin film, which captured a purported Bigfoot crossing a riverbed. While some dismiss the film as a hoax, others consider it authentic, and the debate continues. Notably, many reported encounters describe creatures that differ from the one in the film, suggesting variations in appearance or behavior.
Preferred Habitats
Bigfoot is said to inhabit remote, forested areas with sparse human populations. These creatures are often found near water sources such as rivers and creeks, which provide drinking water and fish. They are frequently reported along ridgelines, offering vantage points to monitor the valleys below for predators or prey. Additionally, Bigfoot sightings are common near caves or abandoned mines, which may explain the sulfurous odor sometimes associated with them. The creature appears to be comfortable around women and young children and is reportedly fond of horses but hostile toward dogs and adult males. Bigfoot sightings are also noted near Native American reservations.
Native American Perspectives
Many Native American tribes view Bigfoot positively, often considering it a guardian of nature or an elder brother figure. Some tribes describe historical relationships where Bigfoot and humans coexisted as neighbors. However, these relations are not always harmonious. There are accounts of conflicts, including rare instances of Bigfoot abducting women or children, with some reports suggesting forced reproduction, raising the possibility of human-Bigfoot hybrids. Bigfoot is also said to treat deer and horses like pets, showing a gentle side in certain contexts.
Encounters and Behaviors
The book documents numerous Bigfoot encounters, most of which involve the creature observing humans briefly before retreating. Bigfoot has been known to kill livestock, harvest crops, or rummage through trash cans, though these actions are typically non-aggressive and sometimes playful. While the creature’s appearance can be frightening, reports of aggression are rare. Some witnesses describe experiencing headaches or temporary paralysis during encounters, possibly due to infrasound or a strong odor emitted by the creature. The majority of sightings documented in the book occur in Northern California.
Connection to Previous Work
Tribal Bigfoot is a follow-up to David Paulides’ earlier work, The Hoopa Project, which also explores Bigfoot phenomena, particularly in the context of Native American experiences. This book expands on those themes, offering a detailed look at encounters and cultural perspectives.
Conclusion
Tribal Bigfoot is a compelling exploration of Bigfoot lore, blending historical accounts, Native American perspectives, and modern encounters. Its detailed documentation and engaging narrative make it a standout in cryptozoology literature. The book earns a 5-star rating for its thorough research and captivating storytelling.
The author brings the police procedure in his investigation of bigfoot. (His former law enforcement background is unverifiable.) First of all, eyewitnesses must sign affidavits. An affidavit is a written statement from an individual which is sworn to be true. It is an oath that what the individual is saying is the truth. In our case the only way to prove definitely that someone is lying, you must prove that bigfoot does not exist. The witnesses also must provide enough information for an artist (who as claimed by the author has to be a believer) to sketch their "human" suspects. Human because all the drawings have typical human traits, Native American, like the witnesses. Coincidence? Even female witnesses describes female bigfoot! According to the author all these people are genetically related with bigfoot. This is fairy stuff, little people, big people living in a parrallel world with humans. Every year we hear about hunters killing other hunters because they thought they were bears. If somebody (with or without gun) is so positive that a human can be a bear, the opposite could also be true.
Fascinating to read about a number of first hand accounts and historical records of encounters with something that is arguably very real to the people whose accounts are presented. I really enjoyed Dave's investigative and forensic approach to this subject.
