This was really Marrick's story. Her life before Lincoln was adventurous and exciting. When Merrick met Lincoln she was running away from a life that had let her down. She set out to be the perfect wife because her nature wouldn't let her be anything else. Lincoln was intimidated in a strange way, by her. He isolated his emotions and was in denial of his feelings for Merrick. The children recognized Merrick as a mother before Merrick or Lincoln. This story was truly written to display the uncertainties of a marriage of strangers. The path was not smooth for them but, Merricks determination to succeed built the foundation of a marriage based on mutual respect and love.
Such a sweet, well written story. Imagine life in California 150 plus years ago, Southern California was home to farms, people were establishing towns. Birthing was dangerous. An obviously handsome father [he has to be handsome] lost his beloved wife in childbirth Three years later he puts an ad in the east coast papers [no internet or even phones] As in those times, She arrives, and are immediately married. AND.... Life gets in their way!! Enjoyable, sweet read!
Four stars, long storyline. Book of spirit, understanding, and hope. Marrickville was a woman before her time, spirited intelligent and independent. She was the second wife. Lincoln was a traditionalist, still clinging to his first wife. She had to be herself and prove herself to others. A lot to overcome it almost came too much to bare. Good ending.
Well written. The lead character in this book was not a weak, simpering woman barely older than a teenager, but was more like a woman of today's time. Surprisingly refreshing!
What a remarkable and witty story. I loved the main characters and the supporting characters. It has a very good plot, much humor and happily ever after. I loved how the heroine handled the challenges of being a wife and a stepmother to the hero and his three children.
This book is a clean, wholesome romance with a few kisses between the main characters and the love scenes are behind closed doors.
I recommend this book and look forward in reading more of this author’s literary work.
