Nineteen-year-old Rose Bender is a bridal attendant for Priscilla King's upcoming wedding and has recently become engaged to handsome but sober, Luke Lantz. Rose and Luke have known each other since childhood and their families have both joked about a possible union in recent years.
When Luke asks her to marry him, Rose agrees out of a sense of duty and a willingness to settle for solid friendship as a basis for the engagement. But, as she witnesses Priscilla's excitement, despite a trail of mishaps leading to the wedding, Rose begins to wonder if there shouldn't be more to a relationship.
Rose begins to examine Luke and his life more closely, and she's amazed when she stumbles upon an exciting, secret side of him. But what if she isn't as adventurous as Luke expects? The Lord will whisper to Rose and Luke that they both have much to offer that's worth the telling in A Perfect Secret.
I listened to this on audiobook through my library's service, Hoopla.
I wasn't sure if I was going to like this story but I got hooked really quickly. The story was different than anything I've read. I don't want to put a spoiler but one character acts out of character in a way and his fiance figures out what he's doing but wondering why. It's interesting to find out the reason. Not completely what I expected but I liked the message at the end. So useful when getting married or starting a new relationship.
Can't wait to listen to the other stories in this series.
Rose Bender and Luke Lantz have grown up right next door to each other. They have been best of friends. There has been talk and speculation as they have gotten older that they would one day wed. When Luke asks Rose to marry him she answers yes with no hesitation. But as she watches their friends. How excited they are together and how expressive they are with their feelings for each other, she scenes something is missing between her and Luke.
Kelly Long is a good writer, and this was my first book I have read of hers. I Enjoyed it.
She does an outstanding job of not only writing but enabling her readers to feel as if they are in the story as well. I couldn't believe that I finished it so quickly.
Ok, going to rate this book a bit different than I normally do. I'm going to break down what worked and what didn't:
Characters - This was okay, not excellent, just okay. I don't think Kelly Long truly understands the community of the Amish and it shows badly with everything I have read of hers so far.
Content - Not enough, it had potential and it being the longest novella in the collection, it had ample room to grow and form, it didn't. The only growth came from Luke and he was not the only one who needed to grow.
If I was grading this as a romance, it would get 4 1/2 stars Christian romance:4 stars Amish fiction:1 star and that is being generous.
I think Kelly Long would do better if she wrote Christian romance, then trying her hand at Amish fiction, it just painfully obvious she doesn't know what she is talking about.
Do yourself a favor, if you want to read it, take it as a regular romance, because it just too kissy and touchy to be Amish
