Outcasts #4

Assassin

Rate this book
Torrin’s simple mission is seriously complicated when he finds Arrista, a lovely Sarronti female, in need of rescue. The Sarronti resent the Outcasts and continually sabotage their efforts to build a settlement on the primitive planet. But Arrista isn’t just any Sarronti. She’s the personal servant of one of the most powerful Sarronti. The information Arrista can provide would be vitally important to the Outcasts, so Torrin is ordered to use their mutual attraction to question her. Arrista has been taught to fear and mistrust the savage Outcasts, so why does she find Torrin so fascinating, so desirable? It’s not just his muscular body and rugged features. He is kinder and more protective than any male she has ever known. She is drawn to him by a force so compelling it leaves her no choice but surrender. She wants him, needs him, but can she trust him not to break her heart? Note to This book contains detailed descriptions of sizzling passion only suitable for mature readers. Certain plot elements carry on from book to book. Though Assassin can be read as a standalone, it’s more fun to read the series in order. Enjoy!

The Romance Review

Terraforming on an uninhabited planet for war weary warriors sounds like a little piece of heaven. Looking forward to peace, it is a surprise to Outcasts warriors when they encounter the indigenous planet's original owners, the Sarronti. For those picking up this 4th book in the series, it is easy to dive into this world as a standalone. Ms. Friberg does a nice job of recapping highlights from previous books to provide a baseline and point of reference. Essentially, the Outcast group of males are considered invaders. The Sarronti are Fae-like creatures who want the invaders to leave. At least, at first glance it seems this simplistic. Instead, it is a bit more complicated as the reader learns more about each group.

This space opera is fun because there are no right or wrong factions. Instead there are competing factions with opposing views that make sense from their own perspective. The Sarronti are justified in their desire to be isolated and repelling alien forces. The Outcasts came to this planet in good faith because they were told it was for them to populate. Surely there must be a way for the two races to work together. This book is a pivotal one as one Sarronti female turns sides by befriending the outlier, Torrin. Torrin is even more outcast than the rest of his group due to things done to his body without consent. He and Arrista, the Sarronti female, bond over this common experience.

Switching between their point of view helps a reader see the struggle as two groups of people who know little about each other, seek to understand the other. The additional of telepathic feline animals only enhances this story. Who doesn't like big kitties that can fight like Battle Cat on a childhood favourite cartoon, He-man? The interacts between Arrista and Torrin are purposely awkward as they are strangers from completely different cultures. As they start to learn about each other, common ground is found. Their mutual attraction is sweet as they fumble with their foreplay. As they become more comfortable, the sexual interludes do heat up.

What I enjoyed about this story is the pace and the set up for the two groups to come to a head. My guess is in the next book, there will be more intrigue as leaders of each group works towards peace. Just as rebel factions strive to undermine and sabotage all friendly intentions. This space opera is recommended to paranormal readers who like disenchanted warriors finding their soulmates.

Ah, and here we go and get the story of Arrista, from the enemy's race, and Torrin, the incompatible to any female Outcast!

I loved Arrista since we met her. She's a virtual slave to the arch-evil-Sarronti Lady, but she's also a sweet and unhappy being. She's convinced that since she comes from Niffal caste, the lowes of the low: bred to serve and blindly obbey, she's unworthy and expendible.

It takes Torrin a long time to convice her of her worth. Even if he wants her he's honorable enough to give her time and space to adjust to her new reality where she is a free woman.

Add to that that the Sarronti females are comatible to all males and you get how this story ends! ;-)

Assassin (Outcasts Book 4) is a well-written, fascinating book by Cyndi Friberg. It is a sci-fi romance and is a part of the outcast series. The story is set on a planet where the elf-like creatures known as Sorronti live in the underground.
When the battle-born Rodyte came to the planet, they didn't find anyone and decided to live there. When the Sorronti came to know of the invaders, they tried everything they could to force the outcasts off their planet.
The story progresses as Torrin is given the task to rescue their females kidnapped by the Soronti and brings another Sorronti, Arissta back who had been beaten by the Soronti general when she tried to help the Rodyte females.
They both feel a physical attraction, but Torrin doesn't act on it as he wants to give Arrista time to adapt to the change in her life. But there is no time as the politics in the Sorronti are changing with another plan to attack and destroy the outcasts.
The plot is exciting and the characters well developed. It's hard not to like the characters. Everyone is so different from each other but are connected by the same hate of war and loss. There were some things which confused me about the battle cats. It felt like they knew everything but waited till the last moment to tell them. There was so much talk of the attack, but when it happened, there wasn't any action compared to the talks. Maybe that will happen in the next book.
Otherwise the book was good. It certainly lived up to my expectations. Highly recommended to everyone who likes Romance mixed with fantasy and strong characters.

I received a free copy via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.

This is a sexy science fiction / romance.
The characters are excellent and although I had not read any of the previous books in the series it did not spoil my reading of this.
It was one I could not put down and finished it in a day.

REVIEW: ASSASSIN is the fourth instalment in Cyndi Friberg’s adult OUTCAST sci-fi, fantasy, romance series. This is Ontarian/Bilarrian hybrid assassin Torrin Havier, and Niffal Sarronti female Arrista’s story line. ASSASSIN can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion I recommend reading the series in order. The OUTCASTS series is a spin-off from the authors BATTLE BORN series. Arrista was first introduced in TRACKER book 3.

SOME BACKGROUND: The humanoid aliens known as Rodytes needed a home and settled on two uninhabited planets they would name Scarlett and Rhett. Without any available mates, the male only Rodytes sent teams of Outcasts to kidnap any and all human females in an attempt to repopulate and find mates for their struggling males but procreation came at a price including the need for genetically matched DNA, a mutual metamorphosis, and magical intervention. A test for compatibility is filed and there may be as many as five males matched to a single female DNA. Outcasts were battle born-their mothers were Bilarrian prisoners forced to breed, with their Rodyte captors, in the hopes of restoring magic to the Rodyte people.

Told from several third person perspectives including Torrin and Arrista ASSASSIN follows the building relationship between Ontarian/Bilarrian hybrid Torrin Havier, and Niffal Sarronti female Arrista. Rescued from the Sarronti ‘underground’ alongside human female Heather (Tracker #3) Arrista believes she, along with Sarronti General Alonov’s son Farlo, are prisoners of the Rodyte Overlord Kage Razel but meeting Torrin Havier, an enhanced Ontarian/Bilarrian hybrid found our heroine hoping for something more. A palpable sexual attraction between our leading couple is met with reservation and worry when it is discovered that Arrista is not in control of all of her actions. What ensues is the building relationship between Arrista and Torrin, and the potential fall-out Farlo’s would-be rescuers have something else planned for our story line heroine.

Arrista is a Sarronti Niffal-the lowest class of citizens, considered slaves to the people in charge. Believing she is meant to serve and obey Arrista struggles with her place in Rodyte society including the freedom she is accorded by Torrin Havier, freedom she believes comes at a cost. Torrin knows that Arrista is his fated mate but convincing the Overlord is another matter. Genetic testing aside, Torrin and Arrista find themselves immediately attracted to one another but Torrin is willing to take it slow in the face of events in Arrista’s past. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and strong secondary and supporting characters including Arton and Lily (Heretic #1), Rex and Thea (Maurader #2), Xorran and Sara (Tracker #3), Torak, and Overlord Kage Razel; Arrista’s sister Merella, mistress Lady Isolaund, Farlo and General Alonov, as well as battle cat Certrice and her cubs Luppa and Wenny,

The world building continues to focus on the Rodytle’s struggle to find suitable and genetically matched mates, as well as the political structures of the Sarronti Underground, and the Rodyte Outcast civilizations where three thousand males and their potential mates live and work. The supernatural aspect of the character’s abilities, and the series premise is reminiscent of two of Christine Feehan’s paranormal romance offerings.

ASSASSIN is a story of struggle, discrimination, power and control. The premise is intriguing and entertaining; the characters are colorful and animated; the romance is passionate and fated. ASSASSIN is an impassioned look at fate and determination in desperate times.

A SOLID 3.5 STARS!

THIS WASN'T SO BAD, BUT IT ALSO DIDN'T BLEW MY MIND.

TORRIN was a cyborg of mixed bloodlines, and also an ex-assassin. He's pretty much friendless, mainly because others shun him for his difference and his past. His only closest companions were Kage and Torak, the Warlord. Torrin believed that he will never ever find a compatible mate, much less sire children. His hopes will be changed when a Sarronti female drops into his life, or rather he saved her life and now she's sort of stuck with the Outcasts. Torrin's attraction to her will define the starting point of their relationship. He's an honorable gentleman through and through, wanting her to heal from within before pursuing her openly.

ARRISTA was a Sarronti pleasure slave, a Niffal - the lowest ranking in their hierarchy system. Serving the evil mistress, I didn't read the previous book but we all know that she was rescued by the Outcasts and now lives amongst them. Arrista's mind was twisted by the ways of the Sarronti, so the concept of freedom was alien to her. Not having a master to serve makes her nervous and aimless. She knows that she wants to serve Torrin, mainly because he saved her life but there's also an underlying attraction to the cyborg. Arrista's needed to learn how to be her own person, and with Torrin's help she was able to break the bonds of slavery to her Sarronti mistress.

OVERALL the war between the Sarronti and the Outcasts will carry on from the ending into the next book, so if you're truly invested in the main plot then you will have to read the next one. For me, I'm just going to skip straight to Kage's story.

An outcast among Outcasts and his elf

Beautiful and sometimes nerve-wracking romance between Arrista, a Sarronti "elf" who was taken from the Underground in order to protect her life, and Torrin, a refugee from the Rhodyte military. He fled the military, to whom his father had sold him at age 5, after they cybernetically enhanced him in order to magnify his mental powers, and then forced him to become their assassin. The Outcasts didn't turn him away, but they are aware of his reputation and his capabilities. He's barely tolerated among them, but has no friends, and certainly no mate! Until the Overlord assigns him the dual job of protecting and debriefing Arrista. Arrista can't conceive of the life of freedom that the Outcasts offer her. All her life she's only been a slave, and now she just wants to serve Torrin. Torrin just wants her to embrace her freedom. Except - he wants her, she wants him, the Overlord is determined that they fulfill the mating... It was so interesting to watch their crippling assumptions fall away one by one, as Torrin and Arrista gain self-knowledge and trust in each other. Cyndi Friberg's fine world-building continues to paint the Rhodyte/Bilarrian/Ontariese universe with compelling and fast-moving series plot arcs, as her various characters struggle for freedom and love against a background of threats and challenges. I'm in for the series! My thanks to Booksprout for this ARC, and this review is voluntary, independent, and uncompensated. Bring on the next Outcast!

This book picks up just after the prior book's ending. While this story could work as a stand-a-lone, it would be improved to have read the prior stories to have an better understanding of the world building, characters and series plot line/issues before starting. Torrin is a great hero, he's tough and deadly but shows a gentleness, caring & understanding in his dealings with Arrista. It was good to see Arrista grow and find herself as the story progressed. The author did a good job of reflecting and handling the trauma Arrista had endured as a servant in the past (and the impact of learning the extent of it), not having the characters brush aside or rush through the healing process. by taking the time to allow the characters to go from attraction to love and letting them face the uncertainties of feelings of gratitude, loneliness and fear in connection with that process, the author added to the depth & realism of the story. The overall series plots moved along at a nice pace, complement rather than competing with the relationship story line. While I'm not a "cat person" per se, the battle cats in the this series are pretty cool and interesting supplemental characters in the own right. I'm curious as to what's next, which in addition to a few hours of enjoyment reading, is sign of a good book.

This series is intense with hidden agendas, spies, attack cats, prisoners, infighting as well as Outcasts finding their mates. If you like exciting stories that keep you on your toes as well as hot alien men with strange powers that find love with their true mates then give this series a try.
Arrista is a Sorranti female who was saved from a violent Sorranti male in the last book. She was saved by Torrin. Since was of the serving(slave) class while underground, she feels that she needs no serve Torrin. She expects to cook, clean, do laundry or anything else that he asks of her.
Torrin is attracted to Arrista but doesn't want her as a servant. He tries to explain to her that in the Outcast group there are no servants, everyone is free.
Torrin finally figures out that something is making Arrista behave the way she does. They later learn that Isolaund has control over one or more of the Outcasts due to a shadow nanobyte that was implanted.
This is definitely a recommended read!

Cyndi Friberg's worlds are always interesting! Here we have Torrin and Arrista's story. I was curious about Arrista from the last book. And Torin too. Arrista was rescued by Torrin during the underground rescue of Sara. Arrista comes from the lowest caste of the Sarronti society and it took her awhile to get used to the freedom the Outcasts have given her and sort of attached herself to Torrin. Torrin doesn't know what to do with her. Well he knows what he wants to do with her but he wants her to want it. arrista knows she doesn't want to be with anyone else except Torrin. But she doesn't quite know how to go about it. Freedom is heady and scary to one not used to it. And Arrista didn't have an easy life. Torrin is a good man and even in the Outcast society, he stands apart because of his uniqueness. I'm so glad he found a mate, that they found each other.

The arch of this series is moving along great! Each book moving closer to either war or piece. And through this all, we have Overlord Kage. Looking forward to that book!

Even though this was the first book that I read in this series, I was able to enjoy the book. Torrin has been commanded to take Arrista back to his cabin. Torrin is the only one that helps Arrista feel safe since he rescued her from the Sarronti general. Torrin is drawn to and feels protective of Arrista, Torrin doesn't want to take advantage of Arrista who has suffered in the past. There is growing danger from the general and from Arrista's former employer. I received a free copy of this book from the author. I enjoyed reading this book very much. This is a good suspenseful scifi romance. There are plenty of steamy scenes, but I prefer scenes that fade out. Even though there is a growing feeling of danger, the main emphasis in this book is the romance between Torrin and Arrista. I like this book.

The Outcast Assassin Torrin and Arrista a Sarronti Niffal are two people who are both looked down on by their kind. Arrista is deeply indebted to Torrin for saving her from the evil General Alonov. She is taken above ground and introduced to a new world where she is free to make her own choices. But she has only ever been a servent. She doesn’t know how to handle these changes. She hides a deadly secret. Will it ruin their chance at love. I wish I had read the first three books in this series. I kind of got lost in all the recaps of what happened before. I like the world building. It was very rich in detail. I really like the battle cats. There was lots of intrigue and mystery surrounding the Sarronti. I received this ARC from Netgalley, I’m leaving an honest review

Wow what an absolutely fantastic story and this is book 4 to the Outcasts. I loved the Outcasts strong sexy men who find that their women are just as strong if not more stubborn, and this is the story of Arrista and Torrin. Sorry guys I’m not going to give any spoilers but if you want to know more then read Cyndi’s blurb and that will give you the gist to this amazing story. Fantastic world building and great characters I hadn’t read the other books in this series but that doesn’t matter too much this story can be read as a standalone but it would be preferable to start from book 1 but it’s not essential. This is a fantastic story a 5 plus ⭐️ read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

A mate for the cyborg

Looking for a new and peaceful start, to be a part of a system away from politics, Torrin ends up on the planet OP3, which is shared by underground elf dwellers, the Sarronti, who view the Outcasts as criminals and invaders. There is one elf, though, whom he is quite willing to keep his eyes on, and he wants more with her, but he has to abide by the seven Outcast rules of conduct.

As a Niffal and a slave, Arrista is overly anxious to please the one male she regards as her master, only he does not seem to want anything to do with her.

An engaging world with an interwoven plot, a cyborg warrior whose intentions are meant to put Arrista first, and a slave who learns her true worth in his arms and as well as freedom in a new life topside.

Assassin

The outcasts of the Battle born have kidnapped human females for mate but some were released and taken back to Earth. The Sarrantoni are on or rather underground on the planet unknown to the Outcasts. The Sarrontoni are declaring war, wanting the Outcasts to leave. The General tried to take Heather and Arrista interferes, is beaten and is saved and taken away to the upper world. She fall for Torrin the assassin and they mate. The battle car price are disgusted with their mistress and help the Outcasts to defeat a small rescue/murder plot and Torrin gets rid of the nanobots making Lily the shadow spy. Great book by a great author.

This story fascinated me! A world removed from ours but so different where Cyborgs and Elves and Battle Cats live sounds amazing. When Torrin came with the Outcasts he saved Arrista when she was protecting Heather. Arrista has always been a slave or a hand maiden but never had a chance to decide on anything. Torrin has wanted Arrista since he rescued her but being a Cybirg he wasn’t sure how she would feel about him. It was interesting to read Arrista adjusting to her new world and Torrin but that’s the easy part , there is a battle coming and the Outcasts are going to need all hands on deck including Arrista and Torrin if they expect to win.

The colony leader Kage has given Torrin the task of overseeing the care and safety of their newest captive, the Sarronti female Arrista. A mutual attraction and undeniable chemistry leads to love and passion for Torrin and Arrista while a new threat to the colony is revealed from the most unlikely source, the battlecat Certice. Great ongoing storyline! This book is a lovely romance on its own but you will appreciate this more from reading the previous books in the series.

Arrista and Torrin's story is complicated and emotional.
Due to Arrista is more broken than she is whole. I like that instead of being told this you shown by her actions and mannerisms. I like the Torrin is a dynamic character having many different sides to him.
