V4 Vengeance: Hitler’s Last Vengeance Weapons Are Going To War is a terrorist thriller by Nigel Seed. Major Jim Wilson, desperate to find a job after the British Army downsizes, accepts an assignment from Romanoff, a wealthy Russian, to search for a hidden World War 2 U boat base in Germany. He and his team find submarines and missiles at the base and repair them for a museum exhibit.
Unknown to them, Romanoff has other plans for the war weapons that Hitler didn’t get the chance to use. He double-crosses the ex-soldiers and launches the deadly gas-filled missiles at New York. Jim gets into serious trouble with the authorities, but is willing to risk his life to prevent Romanoff from carrying out more terrorist attacks.
“A blast from the past” is precisely what has taken place in V4 Vengeance: Hitler’s Last Vengeance Weapons Are Going To War. This gripping thriller was certainly not short on action and drama. Nigel Seed’s meticulous writing will enable readers to visualize some of the atrocities that Hitler and his army committed. It did amuse me, though, to see how Jim and his team tried to outwit Romanoff and his henchmen.
The story and characters are fully developed and believable. I thought the prologue was interesting as it set the tone for a fascinating read. There are so many surprising twists in this thriller, even a couple of the characters who had unassuming roles amazed me in the end. I enjoyed this thriller immensely.
This is a top class thriller with an excellent, well written plot, and plenty of twists that kept me on my toes. There will be no spoilers here but I will say that a secret German submarine base, three redundant soldiers, and a mysterious figure who funds the operation to find the base, culminates in a somewhat scary scenario too close to home.
The story is well researched, which helped to set the mood. The author's writing style is clear and he did a great job developing the characters. I have to say this is an unusual...quite unique story, actually, and it is well worth the read. I'm looking forward to starting Mr Seed's next book. Highly recommended.
This is really a great idea for a book, combining a bit of history from WWII with modern day. When Major Jim Wilson retires, he is bored, without a job and ready for something new. When that something falls into his lap, he enlists the help of two fellow military men.The three think they are going to look for and recover submarines used in WWII for a museum. Of course nothing is as it seems and when the trio actually find the mysterious submarines they uncover not only a conspiracy from the past but find themselves in the center of one in the present. The author does a great job writing an entertaining book that borders somewhere between fiction and fact. well done.
Gripping stuff! I read this book back in the summer - its a cracking read, and an excellent novel from a new author. The story starts with the mystery of a lost Nazi submarine base, and a search for it which is being funded by an unknown benefactor. Once the base has been discovered, the identity and motives of the mysterious benefactor are revealed - but his true goals only become apparent as the novel develops in plausible and frightening ways. I really enjoyed this thriller, and can't wait to read more from this exciting new author, Nigel Seed.
Excellent read by this new author, written with such detail you can easily capture in your minds eye the events as they unfold. Looking forward to reading his next book ‘Golden Eights’
After seeing the U-Boat on the cover, reading the summary and the prologue(via Amazon’s Look Inside feature), I wrongly assumed this book took place at during the closing days of WWII. If I would have scrolled just an inch further in the Look Inside section, I would’ve seen the first chapter heading of “The Present Day – Southern England” and had a better idea of what I was in for.
Mistaken assumptions aside, V4 Vengeance turned out to be a great read. The book is the first in the Jim Wilson series of books by the author. Jim is an ex-army major of the Royal Engineers and the story opens with his final days in the army. Upon being discharged, he finds himself at a loose end until he is approached with by a mysterious man offering him a job—find a lost German U-boat base. He takes the job and is joined by two ex-army buddies in his search. From this point the book grabs you and doesn’t let go.
There are a lot of twists and surprises, which I won’t spoil, but I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. The author does a wonderful job of making it a high-flying adventure without going off the deep-end and keeps the story plausible.
I’m looking forward to reading Jim’s next adventure.
Please note that I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Jim Wilson is at a bit of a loose end having been made redundant from a long career in the army, when he is approached by a mysterious benefactor who wants Jim to try and find a secret submarine base abandoned by the retreating German’s at the end of WW2. With the help of a couple Jim’s old army friends they set off to find the base on the understanding that their finds will be displayed in museum. With the discovery of the base Jim, his friends and the submarines they find become part of a sinister plot that will change the modern world.
This an enthralling thriller with a great plot and well developed characters. It is well researched with a good blend of fact and fiction. Well done Nigel Seed, a book to be proud of. Highly recommended.
I came into this book thinking it was a stand alone book, and only found out that it wasn't after I had finished reading it. Having said that, I feel it does stand up on it's own merit as an excellent experience that can stand alone with good character development and a storyline with enough twists to keep it interesting but not too many that would throw the story into turmoil. There are a lot of facts throughout to make it seem possible (these facts are delineated at the end for those who need). All in all a good story with other (seemingly) stories previewed at the end of further happenings of some well written characters.
This book grabbed my interest very early and did not disappoint as the story progressed. A very good read with a historical aspect the increased the interest.
This was a great read. The lockdown enabled me to read it a lot quicker than I normally would. The story line was very realistic and very gripping. Will definitely read more of the series
If you like Biggles, books by Derek Robinson, or just a good thriller, you'll love this military action adventure, packed with the exploits of a small band of men who go up against the bad guys. Full of funny banter and great characters it's an entertaining read.
Old weapons are used to support a series of really heinous crimes. Jim Wilson’s team starts as part of the problem; then has to work very hard to hard to resolve themselves. Recent military retirees, not willingly, start to free-lance by looking for a German submarine base in Europe. Finding it and restoring 2 U Boats for an eccentric billionaire seems to be a good thing until he starts launching missiles at NYC. Then it gets really exciting.
Nigel Seed is a British author of several action novels and ‘V4 Vengeance’ is the first in the Jim Wilson series. Seed has a free-flowing writing style and makes good use of the literary devices at his disposal.
The start was intriguing and the pace fast. The plot was imaginative, well thought through and tightly constructed, with some surprises along the way. There were excellent descriptive passages, painting vivid pictures for the reader. The chapters were short and succinct, making it very easy to read.
Seed makes good use of his own military background to create a strong main protagonist, along with supporting foils and we witness the camaraderie of the tight-knit group as they journey into the unknown. He intersperses humour with menace, creating a charged atmosphere to keep his audience hooked.
He has clearly carried out a huge amount of background research to give his story credibility and his attention to detail is commendable. There is a clear message regarding the author’s feelings about military cutbacks in the UK and this is something which will resonate with many readers.
A small observation would be that for intelligent engineers, the main players were perhaps rather naïve in accepting at face value the explanation given by their employer regarding the purpose of their mission but anyone who has been in need of a job may well identify with the ex-soldiers’ willingness to overlook any small reservations in return for a generous salary.
By the middle of the book the pace is ratcheted even higher and the plot takes a particularly sinister and deadly twist.
Whilst the lexicon was British-English, the spelling was American-English and I’m unsure of the rationale for this. I confess to being a little irked when the British Prime Minister made a reference to being: ‘called back to colors’. However, the strength of the innovative plot was such that it would be churlish to penalise the author, indeed it may be something his new publisher has recommended to appeal to an international audience.
I was slightly daunted at the prospect of accepting this review request as it came with a ten day deadline. I need not have worried as once I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down.
If you are a fan of action-packed novels, you will enjoy this book as ‘V4 Vengeance’ goes from strength to strength. I look forward to reading more from Nigel Seed and award a richly-deserved five stars.

An exciting novel of mystery and suspense about 3 ex soldiers who are tasked to find a W W 2 U Boat Base supposedly hidden in Germany. With money no object from their mysterious benefactor the 3 travel to Germany to begin the search, but they soon realise that there is a more ulterior, dangerous motive for their journey. Great story! I won a digital copy of this book from Librarything and the author in return for an honest unbiased review.
This is a military thriller that imagines what if the Germans had hidden some advanced warfare U-boats during WWII and what if a Russian mafia boss discovered them and attacked America. Very creative idea, but the story did not always hold my attention, especially when it left the main character.
