As the lead vocalist for country music’s hottest band, Derek Edwards knows that coming out as gay could mean the end of his career. With his life in the spotlight and too much on the line, Derek won’t let himself think about finding a boyfriend, much less the Daddy he desperately desires.

Sheriff Colt Westfield has better things to do than following Hollywood heartthrobs or the latest singing sensations. So when one drink turns into a mind-blowing one-night stand, he has no idea who he was with. That is, until he’s dragged to a concert and sees his sexy one night stand strutting around on stage.

With a record label, management team, and fans watching, will they be able to find what they both need?

This 69k word novel contains mild BDSM aspects as well as spanking, age play, and ABDL

Not a good start.
Have I read the same book as all the others??
Everything felt so flat and constrained.
It was basically just telling and not showing.
I am out.
Peace!

Re-read November 2023

I'm gonna go with 3.5 stars this time since I was a bit bored.

-------------------

Age play, daddy kink, I just love it. I love how the daddy takes care of the boy and how the boy can just let everything go.

There was a bit too much tell and not enough show at first, but I was glad to see that it got better as I read on.

Derek never expected the band he and his best friend started would go somewhere, but now he’s suddenly a famous country singer. He wasn’t in the closet before but now he suddenly is, and he doesn’t like it.

When he and his bandmates go ‘undercover’ one night, he meets Colt at the bar they’re at. Colt has no idea who he is, and Derek wants to keep it that way.

The two spend a hot night together, with some dominance thrown in, but nothing too heavy.

When Colt escorts his little sister to a concert the next evening, he never expects to see Derek on stage as the lead singer.

The two meet up after the concert and both agree that what they have could be something special and not just a hookup. And even though Derek got some ‘Daddy’ vibes off Colt, he’s not sure Colt would want not just a lover but a boy.

Luckily Colt is a true Daddy Dom and loves it if Derek would be his little boy….

This didn’t just have daddy kink, this had full on age play. And I loved it. Derek really needed a daddy who would take care of him. And Colt knew just how to get Derek to relax.

This had no relationship angst and I loved that it was mostly clear of any drama. There is some at the end when Derek gets outed, but nothing too bad.

This was a lovely age-play book with lots of hurt/comfort moments.

(I do have to say that I don't think I will be reading the other books. The age play kept me interested, but the writing style was kind of mediocre...)

I am feeling slumpy lately. This is all Patience fault. The high of a 5 star always ruin books after it lmao. I wanted to read this because ageplays usually lighten my mood. The storyline was okay, mostly sweet and cute, but it took me so long to finish it and everytime I pick it up, I can’t stay focus. I believe I’d enjoy this better in a different mood. Maybe I should’ve put a large gap between books in this series because the this bdsm/ageplay storyline is quite similar to the one i’ve read before and i couldn’t feel the excitement of the ageplay awakening.

Other than ageplay, the other tropes don’t seem that appealing to me but it was ok I guess. A tad bit higher than mid :)

I really liked this story. And that's saying something since I love action/mystery type of books most of the time. This was neither but it captured my interest with it's refreshing narrative and a unique perspective on age play. I didn't know what to expect but Derek and Colt were so beautiful together both as boyfriends and Daddy and his little that I could not help myself but love them.

Derek is a rising country music star and his whole life is under public scrutiny. The fact that he had to go back in the closet is almost enough to send him into a tail spin but a random meeting with one sexy sheriff changes everything. He finds someone he can trust and completely let go with. Colt is a man who knows what he wants and he can't believe his luck when he meets a young man who seems to push all his buttons. One night is all they have but the intense connection that flares up between them is strong enough to try and figure out if they can be together.

Ms Marie wrote about age play in such a way that made so much sense, that gave me understanding of how it works for both Daddy and his boy, about what mind set it brings out and what exactly it accomplishes. Some moments were very sweet and some were amusing but the dynamics between Colt and Derek was always so clear while they were playing that I got a sense of satisfaction and happiness rolling off of both MCs. It was tangible. There were no villains or plot twists but this book didn't need any of that. It was so engaging while simply exploring all the possibilities and all the feelings Derek and Colt had for each other. And the intimate moments between them made it even better - so wonderfully written and steamy hot.

This was a feel good kind of book for me. There were some topics discussed such as coming out to family and public, kink and ABDL, homophobia. This author did a wonderful job on all of them. I highly recommend it to even those who are not into reading Daddy kink simply because of how Ms Marie wrote it - it was an absolute joy to experience. I will definitely read more of her works!

Derek is the successful vocalist of one of the hottest country bands, now performing on a successful tour of the country. But no matter how hyped or invested you are in your successful career, there comes a time when you become so tired and stressed that you just need an “off” day, or days to just be yourself. Colt is an out-of-the-closet Sheriff in a town just outside of Nashville, which everyone knows is the very heart and soul of country music. Neither man would have thought that the one-night stand would turn out to be with the closeted and famous lead singer of the band, "Hometown" Certainly not Colt, who never found out who Derek was until the afternoon of the next day after their amazing night together. As the lead vocalist of a well-known, number one band in the country and always in the eye of the public, Derek craves some quiet and stress-free times. A time when he can just "let go" of all the stress and all the worries. A time when he didn't need to make another single big or small decision. When he could just let someone else be totally "in charge" of every aspect of his life. That’s what Derek, unbeknown to him at the time, had found in the small county bar...when he locked eyes with Sheriff Colt Westfield. Colt was a Dom by nature. He had almost given up ever finding a boy who will just let him care for his every need...and he certainly never thought he would find his someone special in a "sought-after" country singer. Feelings developed fast and before they know it...just one picture appearing to the eye of the public and Derek and Colt are outed...or at least Derek has been outed...Colt had been out for years. Through the media fallout Colt was always there to give support and to anticipate Derek’s every need. At Home is a story of two people who never expected to find the one they were looking for in a one-night stand but learned quickly what they have and accepting it wholeheartedly. A tale of two people who learn to accept, without hesitation or question who or what they are or what each wants and needs from the other. Carly Marie’s approach to this story is quite unique and I really liked her insight of this particular kink. I am looking forward to the next installment of this series and learning more about Derek's brother, Ty and a couple of his fellow bandmates. Note: Sheriff Colt Westfield also appears in Carly Marie's "Johnson Family" series, another great read.

Readers new to age play will definitely enjoy the slower pace and sweetness of At Home. There’s plenty of kink for fans of the genre, and Carly Marie establishes a nice connection between the main characters.

I also enjoyed the Southern flavor in At Home. This is a culture in America that I know very little about, so it's fascinating to see the way the author addresses issues like how the different families accepted their sons’ coming out.

The audio is performed by Bolton Hill. His warm, southern twang works well for these guys. The voice he uses for the daddy, Colt, is good and suits the older man. I would have liked a more pronounced difference for when Derek is in little mode though.

Honestly, while At Home took a wee while to warm up, once it got going I definitely enjoyed it.

I found this a little more tolerable the second time around. I do like Derek and Colt together.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I liked this story for the most part. What I think I could've done without was the amount of 'Daddy' references. I get that this story was age-play, but man, Derek called him Colt maybe 10 times...lol The rest of the time it was Daddy. It got to the point where it was almost cringy, which turned it into irritating. We got the point. It was too much.
I loved Colt and how he was with Derek. They really were good for each other.
I'm curious about Derek's brother Ty's story, so I'll continue with the series at some point. I just need a little break from all the Daddy talk.
A generous 3 stars of sweetness
At Home (Finding Home #1) by Carly Marie
At Home by Carly Marie is a low angst, sweet and mild kinky , MM romance.
It falls on the lite Daddy/Boy kink, Age Play , Age Gap romance , that in my opinion , it the perfect introduccion to new readers of this trope . As isn't explicit and/or overwhelming on details . Book is all more telling than showing kind of way.
Storyline: 2.5
Heroes: 2.5
Heat level : 2
Angst: 2
Sweet level: Diabetic Coma
Romance: 2.5
If you want dip a toe in the water of Daddy/Boy kink , I recommend reading this book.
Audiobook Review
I have been hesitant about this audio only because I have not listened to this narrator before but I'm glad I got it, I liked the narration.
Ok so having read every Carly Marie book, it was only natural to do my re read in audio.
Anyways, in here we have Sheriff Colt and lead singer of a country band, Derek. These two meet by accident at a bar and it was instadaddy.
I loved the way they naturally fell into the Daddy/boy lifestyle and yes this one has age play and it was lovely.
This does have a forced outting which I always hate, in real life and in books.
Bolton Hill did a great job and I'm looking forward to listening to him for the rest of the series.
Liked it
3.75* rounded up. Read this purely out of curiously after seeing a rec and was pleasantly surprised. It's my first Daddy/little and mostly I came for the rockstar/hot cop, both of which worked pretty well I thought. For me the writing could have been a little tighter and there were a couple of things I wasn't buying, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the story and I'll be reading the rest in the series for sure. I think the thing I really loved about this was how the author got across the deep affection between the characters.
This was a cute und light hearted story. I enjoyed reading about these two men falling in love and Derek discovering his little side was a joy to read as well. I love that in the way Colt gave Derek this safe space, Derek was able to let himself fall and therefor get through stressful times much better. These two were honestly so cute together.
This whole story was super fluffy and very low-angst or more like no angst.
Books like this are feel good books for me and I hope the next in the series will be as good and cute too.
This went from interesting to tedious very quickly.
Insta trust from someone who is supposed to be in the closet and careful about exposing himself as he's famous.
Being "in the closet" but there was never anything that ever backed that up. They kissed in all the parking lots, they told everyone about them, there was no hesitation. Even when they told Colt's teenage sister, there was nothing more than " our relationship isn't gossip" to keep her from telling people.
The kink itself was okay, but dude went from not even being comfortable to look it up online to jumping in feet first completely.
Telling every single person about their kink like it was no big deal- and being so flippant about it.
The dad's character was so damn unrealistic I can't even. You don't go from condemning your kid when they come out, not speaking to them other than demanding they go to your homophobic church when they're home, then suddenly understanding and claiming you were just freaking worried. This is an absolute garbage take. The older brother I could accept, because he just seemed confused and unsure of things.
The famous musician bit seemed so unrealistic for the way the character was written. He didn't like the attention, was exhausted from touring, didn't seem to like one single aspect of his job at all. There was no being excited about the shows or even enjoying playing for himself, he carried around his guitar less than a handful of times and that was the extent of him doing anything musical. I was honestly expecting him to walk away from it but nope.
I do love me some kinky stuff, especially age play and this book hit the spot. Derek and Colt hit it off right off the bat and are so great together.
I loved how their needs complemented each other and how much support Colt was to Derek when he needed it. I felt for Derek when the stress and schedule was overwhelming him but it was amazing how just one day of letting it all go helped him to center and be ready to face the problems the next day, we all have something that does it but Colt did it for him.
I look forward to more of these books and can’t wait to see what other kinks the author brings out.
Bolton Hill did a great job on the narration, I thought the voices he used were perfect for the characters and was glad he did go to the extreme with them as many I have listened to lately have. His reading also didn't run together so it was easy to keep track of the story. This is a book that I read not too long ago so it was nice to just let the story wash over me.
I received an ARC of this book and am giving an honest review.
I wasn’t ready!!!!!!!! My first dip in daddy kink. Ahhhhh. It said mild bdsm. I’m good with that. Daddy kink. Wow. Let’s just say this girl is doing research now. Overall good story. Was insta love so be prepared for that, but my biggest thing was the daddy kink. I can’t decide if I’m down with it or not. I get it. So there’s that, but some parts of it.... enjoyed colt and Dar’s relationship, the side characters were good too.
Sorry this review isn’t the best, but it’s my first view of this different life style so hopefully you will forgive me for not having the right worlds to respond. I am going to read the next book if that shows how much I liked this one.
Edit: 2024 and I am totally a fan of D/b relationship!!! Thank you for introducing me to this.
This is my first time reading age play and I must admit this was the perfect place to start!
It was brilliant!! I didn’t know what I was going to think before I started. I went in with an open mind and I loved that Derek was also new to the lifestyle. The way that he describes so many of the emotions he was going through was the best. It helped to explain more about how both Colt & Derek we’re feeling during their relationship.
I really loved this book the characters were well developed and I loved the secondary characters. I can’t wait to read more. I’m sooo looking forward to Ty & Declan’s book.
It’s and easy read, the author really makes a good job portraying the age-play that could easily come off as cringy as something sweet and natural.
Even the almost insta-love, witch is usually a deal breaker for me, felt natural for them.
Frankly what I liked the least was that I don’t understand why Derek was a singer. It kind of pissed me off. He didn’t get any joy from it, touring was torture for him, he didn’t care about money and didn’t like being famous, when he listened to himself in the radio ‘it felt weird’ , the only kind of positive reaction he had related to his career was when he wasn’t “opposed” to make a Christmas album. The whole superstar thing felt forced and really unrealistic, I feel like the writer doesn’t know much about the music scene and it shows. It was really off-putting, but then again a lot of the story was really unrealistic.
All in all it was an ok read for me, I don’t feel like I wasted my time but will probably forget about the book really soon.
The more age play books I read, the more I love them!
Carly Marie is just fantastic at writing them. It’s so sweet, there’s no unnecessary angst and the way she tells the stories is absolutely lovely!
Dereck, a recently famous country musician, meets Colt, an older Sheriff, at a bar after one of his shows. Colt has no idea who Dereck is.
Their one night stand becomes so much more as they can’t seem to stay away from each other, and when they find out their interest in age play is mutual, them being together seems to be inevitable as much as it’s perfect.
Man, Bolton Hill’s voice gives me shivers, especially when impersonating Colt!
4.5. Extremely well done. Not a huge fan of ABDL, or the famous musician trope for that matter, but this kept my interest till the end. Of special interest to me was that the author nailed the fact that a Daddy CAN switch sexual positions with his boy in the bedroom once in a while, while still being a Daddy AND still being dominant! Thank you! None of this 'you can be the Daddy now cause I feel like bottoming'. No sir! Still the daddy, now do me like you're told. I loved it! One of the best Daddy books I've read in a minute. I loved Colt as a Daddy and loved Derek as his boy.
This series saved me. It was 2023. My life flashed during a vicious bout of the stomach bug. It was touch n go; needed a savior. To capture my mind so I could go on… enter a Daddy, a panty loving Navy SEAL and a ménage à trois to set my britches on fire. Poof, naked. This series HAD ALL OF THAT IN 4 BOOKS {catch me Bish, that’s a swoon fall}. When I tell you they was SPICY I ain’t lyin y’all. I needed water and a cool down. I was a legit VOLCANO with liquid hot magma in my veins. Not only was it spicy but they were absolute stunning storytelling. Stunning!
We’ll start with Daddy… yup I need him to run MY LIFE from now on! My lord I can hear him saying I’m a good boy and it just sets my tits a sizzle. Don’t you even start with “Taj, it’s not about you!” because I felt that sh!t in my JUNK. IT WAS FOR ME. I was NOT taking care of myself and I needed his help!!! The WAY he cared for me (f**k fine him 🙄) was sooooo satisfying. Then add in the way his boy needed and the sweetness was top notch. I just held onto my blankie, listened to Daddy and felt better. Book 2 was sexy. So so so so sexy. Best friends. One is in love. One is in life. When they FINALLY cross the line it’s FIREWORKS 💥. The moment he sees the black & gold lace jock, I nutted. Just “ahhhh” came in my pants. They fell into a beautifully easy relationship that was a long time coming and did not disappoint. But Taj, it you knew it was coming, how did it keep you intrigued? By the surprises under it all. The intrigue to what the big tough Navy SEAL would do with his lingerie loving BF 🫠. Book 3 & 4 grabbed my f**king heart and beat me down. No regard for my feelings. The family regarded him as straight, laughed when he tried to say otherwise and always left him behind. They didn’t listen. They cared, but only if he was doing what they expected. And then a big, bad, older, retired SEAL walked in and flipped his world on its back, slapped his ass and made him feel it for days. Then they BOTH saw the beautiful cowboy and knew love was for more than two. These 3 had some shit to trudge through and it was special af. Watching them grow and defend each other was chefs kiss 😚. I absolutely cried many times because I needed it BAD. If you are looking for a series, following brothers and love to cry THIS IS IT. Now leave me be so I can lick my wounds and recover.
Terminé con sentimientos encontrados, pues hay aspectos que me parecieron bien logrados, especialmente el manejo emocional de Derek respecto a salir del clóset. La entrevista donde decide abrirse se siente sincera, vulnerable y muy humana. Es fácil imaginar la presión de ocultar su identidad sexual durante años siendo una figura pública, y creo que ese conflicto está tratado con bastante sensibilidad.
En cuanto al romance y el kink Daddy/boy, no lo sentí ni forzado ni completamente natural. Está presente, pero se queda corto. Esperaba algo más spicy o, al menos, más retador para que aportara tensión real a la trama.
El libro se mantiene en una zona bastante segura, lo que hace que algunos momentos se sientan planos y poco memorables.
Colt, por su parte, me dejó debiendo. Para ser sheriff, tiene demasiado tiempo libre y su rol como figura de autoridad casi no pesa en la historia.
Además, la falta de comunicación con su padre fue un punto que me chocó bastante; más que un conflicto bien trabajado, se sintió como un vacío narrativo. En general, es una lectura que destaca más por su parte emocional que por su intensidad o desarrollo de conflictos, y que recomendaría con expectativas claras.
