Nothing is as it seems. The assassination of Eliot Webb, brother of the US President, sparks a seemingly unrelated chain of events. These include the kidnapping of New York resident, Maya Borovkova and the poisoning of Russian general, Alexei Lukyanov. Maya’s boyfriend, Sean Peters, races against time to save Maya. He is drawn into a world where nothing is as it seems and uncovers a plot which threatens to throw the former Soviet Bloc into crisis. He engages the assistance of Russian billionaire, Oleg Kostadinov to try and foil the kidnappers and bring down the conspiracy. Sean's search takes him to Russia where the mysterious Leonid Volkov suggests Maya may not be who she claims. Her true identity is linked to the brutal rape of a Russian teenager six years earlier - a rape initiated by General Lukyanov.
Desperate for answers, Sean risks life and limb in his search for Maya. He is finally reunited with her, as they both face certain death in the attic of a Volgograd dacha. They are saved thanks to a daring rescue mission, during which Oleg dies. When Sean meets the leader of the rescue mission he is shocked.
A week after Oleg's death $100 million disappears from his corporate bank accounts. Again nothing is as it seems.
Wow! I totally enjoyed that! A rollercoaster ride that didn't stop until the end!
A gripping thriller with twists and turns, personal evaluations of values, intrigue all over the place. Just when you think you've figured it out...BAM!
Loved the characters and plot lines -- there were many- right until the end
A totally satisfying read!
I can hardly wait until the author drops the next book. ..... Maybe he can turn this into a series...
It is hard to believe that this is Andrew Bryson's first novel. From beginning to end this book was captivating and intriguing and I never wanted to put it down, always wanting to continue reading to find out what happens next. This book is easily as good if not better than any of the many novels I have read by the well known authors. I eagerly await Andrew's next book.
I received a review copy of this book from the author through Voracious Readers. What a great book! I was hooked from the first chapter. The author has created characters who are engaging and realistic and relatable. This is a gripping action thriller with plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. The pace of the story is lightning fast and breathtaking. Full of intrigue, deception and enough realism to be scary, this book entertains on all levels. It is a fast paced, thrilling ride that keeps you engrossed right to the end. Fantastic read!
This is a fast-paced, exciting and intriguing thriller in the style of Robert Ludlum which is well worth the read.
These days it is rare to find a novel that you just can't put down because you keep wanting to know what happens next. Deception is such a book.
The novel's story stretches across various locales from Africa, USA to Russia. It is in Russia where the protagonist spends the bulk of the novel and Winston Churchill's quote about Russia being a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma could very well be used to describe the events in this book, with more plot twists than your amusement park roller coaster.
I look forward to reading the next book by Andrew Bryson.
There was just something about the synopsis that drew me to the book and I must say I’m so happy that I picked this one! The level of detail is such that I felt that I was in Russia! I really loved Andrew’s conclusion to each chapter as it really kept me engaged and eager to know what would happen next. This book is fast paced and a wonderful thriller! I can’t believe that this is Andrew’s first book and I look forward to reading his books. A shoutout to VoraciousReadersOnly for giving me a free copy of this book via the author.
Thank you @voraciousreadersonly for introducing me to yet another great author! Deception takes the reader on a roller coaster of a ride between the viewpoints of an American trying to get his kidnapped girlfriend back and the president of Russia trying to keep his country from starting unnecessary wars. Through a dangerously strange twist of fate, these two men end up struggling against a similar foe with different motivations. I had a hard time putting this down! I give this book 👍🏼👍🏼!

Wow. There really are no words to describe the magnificent collection of words that I found in Deception. Andrew Bryson uses his command of the English language to encapsulate the reader and made sure that I could not put this book down!
I found reading Deception to be such a refreshing experience. I found myself engulfed in thrills, plot twists and adventures that are so gripping and fantastic but so lifelike at the same time.
I can't wait to see what else Andrew comes up with.
I received a copy of this through Voracious Readers , This was a fast paced book that was full of twists and turns . I took so long to finish because I was trying to read multiple books simultaneously but I found that this one needed your full attention ! I’m almost curious to see if there will be a series out of this !
An amazing, fast pace, action packed page turner of a novel. Extremely descriptive and drags you into the story from the get go. There are a few twists and turns, some you can see coming, but it keeps you wanting more right until the very last page.I I will definitely look out for more novels by Andrew Bryson, can't wait for the next one.
What an amazing thriller! The author expertly fuses different themes and moves seamlessly between continents, powerful leaders and ordinary people. The book is well researched giving well described financial, medical and political insights I’d planned a full Sunday, but was too enthralled by this read to do anything else. Hopefully we will see more, soon, from this writer
I received a Complimentary Copy of this book from Voracious Readers Only. This book was a page turner!! I felt as though I was at each location due to the great descriptions. The twists in this book make this book difficult to put down.

I got this book from VRO, and I absolutely enjoyed this book! The story has so many twists and turns that it’s hard to tell the good guys from the bad guys until the very end. If you enjoy novels involving espionage, then this book is for you. Enjoy!
Wow what a captivating & exciting thriller. I was kept on the edge of my seat from the first page until the last. This novel has everything from intrigue, murder, fast paced action & deception. This is a must read. I cannot wait to get my hands on Andrew Brysons next adventure.
I totally loved this book. The book keeps you hooked from start to end. In some chapters you might feel a little bored when the politics is talked about. And that’s the only reason I haven’t called this one a must read (also because I received this one as an eBook and I hate eBooks)
The twists in the story are mind blowing. The books shows that the author has done good research and put in a lot of efforts. There is nothing you can guess in here.
I was being a smarty-pants, for I have read so many thrillers, and I predicted the ending and the twists but the author was one step ahead and proved me wrong, every single time, which left me open-mouthed. You just don’t know what will happen next.
One thing that I was so impressed by was the last chapter. I just thought it would be a pack up but the author came up with yet another surprise. I wanted to get to the end yet I didn’t want the book to be over.
There is so much in this book that can’t be missed. This is a fast-paced thriller ready to blow your mind. And the best part is; all this in just 192 pages! You can’t get a better deal than this. This book deserved to be a hit. It’s hard to believe that this is a debut novel.
I didn't want to put this down. The pace doesn't let up in this fast-moving thriller. The book lives up to its title, with deception coming from surprising quarters. I found the book well-researched and fairly realistic. The author reveals just enough to send his readers on a particular path and then introduces a heck of a twist down the line.
Deception was a great work to read. It is fast paced, thrilling and definitely a page turner. As someone who is always skeptic and looking for plotholes, I enjoyed it thoroughly.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers Only. Deception is a fast paced thriller that takes the reader through unexpected twists and turns as Sean Peters searches for his kidnapped girlfriend. Just when you think you have it figured out another plot twist is thrown in and you realize you were on the wrong track. A fast, paced thriller that is just too hard to put down!
This is a well thought out plot with nonstop action and a plausible storyline, albeit a tad longer than I expected. The scenario is up to date and the author has researched his story plot thoroughly and the characters, though "bad guy" images are more reminiscent of the old KGB of the past USSR regime than the current FSB of modern day Russia. But all in all an excellent read....
