A few days before Christmas, David Weathers finds himself hopping a plane to his childhood home in Florida and doesn’t know why. His parents are gone, he has no siblings, yet something draws him on.
David can almost feel the magic in the air, but then he discovers Jared Acosta, the man who broke his heart twenty years earlier, has moved three doors away. Reluctantly David accepts Jared’s invitation to dinner, only to find that twenty years may not be enough for some wounds to heal.
Soon David seeks advice from his mother’s best friend Marisol, a vibrant, wise woman who believes in second chances. Can she convince David to take a chance on the man who is working so hard to be near him now? Will he be able to forgive a past that left both him and Jared unlucky in love?
Rafe Jadison is a relatively new eBook author who enjoys writing about many different types of people and situations, ultimately believing that we are all pretty much the same. He is author of Seduced by Shark Shifters, Seduced by Shark Shifters II: Logan’s Tail, Reap This, Blake Blacks Out, and Peter Passenger and the Mothman. He has lived in a variety of places, many of them by the water. You can find out more about Rafe at rafejadison.com. He looks forward to hearing from people legally old enough to read the things he writes.
“Magic in the air” is a theme in this story, and with the difficult decision the main character has to make, he could certainly use some help. As it turns out, David needs more than “magic” to decide how to deal with Jared coming back into his life. They were deeply in love twenty years ago, wanted to work and live together, but Jared wasn’t out for fear of his father’s reaction. Even worse, Jared was not ready to be out anywhere, not even as far away from his family as South Korea, where David had managed to secure them both jobs as English teachers. Now it Is a few days before Christmas, David has come back to his parents’ house for the first time in years, and Jared is clearly interested in mending fences.
Little Tree is a beauty of a book. Seasonal in that it takes place just before Christmas, this book is primarily a second-chance romance. Jared was a fool and has paid the price. David was hurt but carried on with his life. These two have baggage to contend with, and Jared can only hope that a past hurt won't take over the promise of a future.
I found this book to be 'sweeter' than the others by this author I have read. It was less eroticism, and more sensual. It was a delight to read, with no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading. I loved both main characters, although I did want to whomp Jared around the head when we found out about his past! You could see it as lost opportunities, but I prefer to think the experiences will just have made these two fit together even better.
The characters are well-defined, and the situation the same. There are no doubts about this book, apart from whether they will end up together again or not. I'll leave that to you to find out! All I can say is this is a great addition to Rafe Jadison's repertoire, and I thoroughly enjoyed every word. Absolutely recommended by me.

Sorry, I know I’m in the minority of opinion here, but this story just did not work for me. Oh, I’m sure there’s really good story buried somewhere amongst the choppy writing, lame dialogue, constant and annoying flashbacks and numerous pieces that made no sense. So Jared’s father remarried and had a son with his new wife. He named him Jared (and the new wife went along with it). Hmmmm. I really think there was so much potential in this second-chance for love short, but it didn’t pan out. Jared really messed up badly with David, but was David really holding that anger for 20 years to the detriment of any other potential relationships?
Loved this story. Jared and David were in a previous re!ationship. A Christmas spent in Florida rekindles old feelings. A!though there's reluctance to revisit the past, the chemistry is undeniable.
