This book gives you advanced teachings for using the Elements. Inside you'll find chapters broken up by Element, outlining specific spells, meditations, and rituals unique to each one.
A native of the Pacific Northwest, author D.J. Conway has studied the occult fields for over 35 years. Her quest for knowledge has covered every aspect of Paganism and Wicca to New Age and Eastern philosophies; plus history, the magical arts, philosophy, customs, mythologies and folklore. In 1998, she was voted Best Wiccan and New Age author by Silver Chalice, a Pagan magazine.
She lives a rather quiet life, with most of her time spent researching and writing.
This book isn’t exactly about the elements, the focus is on the mythical creatures associated with the elements. There are a handful of meditations and spells along with stone recommendations for each. However, the majority is on the creatures ranging from various type of faeries to gnomes to undies to firedrakes. While interesting, it felt like half the book was presenting information to then tell the reader to avoid working with the exact thing she just described. She presents the elements (and creatures along with each one) as something dangerous. Personally, I like the more gentle approach from Cunningham in regards to the elements.
D.J. covers the five elements: Earth, Ait, Fire, Water, and Spirit as well as the elementals associated with them with rituals and spells. She also tells which elements can easily be combined in spells and which ones don't play well with each other.
It is a well-written and interesting introduction to this side of Magick, well worth the time to read and assimilate the information.
I have been searching for a book that is concerned with the elements, in particular the elementals. I found just what I was looking for here.
Elemental Magick can be both read through and used as a reference book, for ask things Elemental. Listing correspondences for each element along with a variety of elemental spirits. This book opens the doorways to communing with these, mostly neglected, beings. There are several guided mediations for connecting with elementals, giving the newcomer a solid starting point.
Elemental Magick is a valuable addition to my magickal bookshelf, and one that will be referred back to regularly.
If you are interested in working with the Elementals in a more meaningful way than just calling the quarters, don't go part this book.
This book had some pretty interesting information, but overall, it was a little too fluffy for me (personal taste being what it is). Also, the publishing company needs to hire a new editor.
