Okay, so this was my least favorite book in this series. While the mystery was good, I'm not a fan of the romance portion of the story. I realize I'm in the minority, here, but I by far prefer the sheriff who willingly put himself out there for his feelings (Not to mention went up against family prejudice) over the vampire who waited 7 books to decide to take a chance. And that's after being involved with someone else himself, and urging Ember to go for the Sheriff. I don't care how "tormented" he might be, I don't want the guy who can't make up his mind to take a risk, until months after admitting to the feelings. Far as I'm concerned, Aelc should have just sucked it up. He had his chance and blew it.

I jumped right into this book after finishing number seven, and it was nice to see the love triangle get wrapped up. The mystery was fun, as Ember was working with the leprechaun deputy, so that was an entertaining change. Overall, it was a quick, decent read, and I liked all of the characters. 4 stars.

Magic & Mythos: Starry Hollow Witches 08 3⭐️
Chronological order is not necessary but recommended.

In a Nutshell:

Ember Rose, the descendant of the one true witch and a journalist at her aunt’s paper, Vox Populi, investigates the murder of her colleague Tanya’s niece, Tatiana. The problem is that Tatiana was the reason for the heartache and break-up of two of Ember’s suitors: the vampire editor of Vox Populi (Ember’s Editorial Manager) and the werewolf sheriff, Granger. Both are capable of crime, and both have motives. Given the ties to Tatiana, Ember has to team up with her law enforcement nemesis—leprechaun Deputy Bolan. It’s a fun ride.

The Protagonists:

I love the character of Ember Rose. Finding out she has magical powers and wealth has not dented her New Jersey feisty attitude. She will not conform or allow her aunt to spoil her daughter, Marley. Ember also carries the issues of mistrust from her past, and her dedication to solving mysteries often affects her personal life and relationships. Feisty, impulsive, loyal, with a sense of justice—what’s not to love? Ember Rose is relatable—flawed yet determined. Her curiosity and resourcefulness make her a captivating lead.

Why Read It?:

I must have been invested in these stories because I found elements that made me sad. But there are plenty of lines to make you laugh and smile, although I think Rhoul deserves more love than he is shown.

Magic & Mythos offers an enchanting blend of mystery, humour, and magic. This book is a delightful choice if you enjoy cosy mysteries with quirky characters, unexpected twists, and a touch of the supernatural. Dive into Starry Hollow’s world of spells, secrets, and murder-solving leprechauns! 📚🔮🕵️‍♀️

The one that got away

Another great read. Nice plot with a great reveal at the end. Although we always knew she would end up with Alec, it would be good for the Sheriff to find someone too. Love the way the characters are growing into their roles.
Now that Marley has come into her magic, her new school is the magic academy. Plus she has old the Sheriff that she wants to be with Alec. Although she is determined to take things slow and go through counselling to resolve their issues. However a fly has appeared in the ointment with the return of the fairy, Tatiana. She hurt both the sheriff and Alec when she cheated on both of them. When her dead body is found in her aunt's pool it is up to her and the deputy to find out who did the deed. Everyone is a suspect until cleared. The more they investigate the more suspects they turn up. Tatiana had a habit of making a play for everyone and leaving them either heartbroken, out of pocket or both. Can the culprit be found before this becomes a cold case and leaves everyone still on the suspect list?

Extraordinarily entertaining cozy mystery/urban fantasy series

And entertaining cozy mystery/urban fantasy series. A small east coast supernatural town full of supernatural beings. Her young mother from New Jersey finds out she is actually a witch and moves to the small town of story hollow to live with family she did not even know she had. She learns how to use her magic and her daughter turns 11 and comes into her magic is well. In this book she begins going to the black cloak academy for witches and wizards. Amber Rose has gotten a job as a reporter in her aunts newspaper and each book she stumbles into some mystery crime murder at Cetera and gets to try and figure it out. Follow along as her and the rest of the characters investigate at times on her own and other times with the sheriff and his deputy. Always entertaining and always well worth the read

I have mixed feelings about this book. While the mystery, as always, was good. The romance portion left me feeling mostly sad and unsatisfied, even though she chose the man I wanted her to from the beginning. I felt bad for the one she didn't choose throughout the book. She is guilt-ridden the whole boo over how she hurt the other guy and seems to think about him as much, if not more than the guy she chose.

Things have changed in Ember’s life, Marley has her magic and she’s broken up with Granger to go out with Alec, who finally stated his feelings. I can’t say I’m pleased with this situation.
While she’s working on her relationship, she wants couples counselling before they officially date, things get delayed when a fairy is found dead.
Tatania, a fairy who broke the hearts of both Granger and Alec is found floating in a pool. Due to her past history with the sheriff, Ember is working with deputy Bolan.
This has an interesting mystery, interesting character interactions, and humour. Ember has to assist Raoul at the dump with his nemesis, a pushy crow. There’s always something light to laugh at.
A fun, quick, easy read.

Yet more entertaining fun from Ember, Marley and co. There has been a complicated love story going on in the background of these books and I am happy to say that all is finally where it should be. Much more satisfying, although I can't help but feel I want happy endings for everyone involved. The murder this time involves a lot of Ember's closest friends being suspects so she has to tag team with the leprechaun police deputy, and this is where the fun begins. I loved these two together! All in all a slightly less obvious murder mystery, although I can't but help think they did the world a favour! Reliably fun.

Torn relationships..

As Ember has broken up with Granger and moves into a relationship with Alec the unthinkable happens and Tatiana visits her aunt Tanya who works at Vox Populi.

Tatiana had played with both men's affections and then run off with a centaur leaving Granger and Alec devastated. But an emergency call from Tanya has Ember racing over to her house to discover Tatiana's body floating in the pool. Now Deputy Bolan asks Ember to help as the Sheriff is a suspect.. but so is Alec and a long list of former lovers. Can they track down the right guilty party when everyone seems to be happy that she's dead.

Fab!!

This book starts 3 days after the last book ended.
Ember has made her decision with regard to who she wants to be with, Alec or Granger.
I wanted to jump up and down to discover who she decides to be with.
Alec is more softer and happier. Really loved his changed demeanour.
A fairy is discovered lying dead in pool. There are numerous suspects as she wasn't a nice person.
Ember has to join forces with Deputy Boland the leprechaun who hates her in order to solve the murder.
Really enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read the next book.

Ember has made the decision about she wants to be with. Ember had to follow her heart and choose Alec. She was depressed for a while about breaking the sheriff's heart, but she decided to put it behind her and get back to life. When she gets to work she finds out the sheriff's and Alec's ex comes to town Ember has mixed feelings. Later she gets a call from Tanya the office manager and finds the ex face down in the pool. Now she must work with the deputy to find the killer because everyone is a suspect

Ember's personal life progresses despite a puzzling murder

A lovely coming out party for new witch Marley is subjected to a brawl between a vampire and a werewolf, to her delight. A depraved fairy drowns and it appears she was hated by nearly everyone in town. Recommended. For once, the unraveling of the mystery is shared in the story and not presented as an unsubstantiated eureka! moment. Character development is exceptional and plausible. And the finale is both scary and satisfying.

Tatiana Trouble

The troublesome Tatiana is back in town. Well, not for long: somebody killed her. Nobody’s shedding a tear over this one, except for her aunt. However, both Sheriff Granger and Alec Hale are both former boyfriends, making them both suspects. With Sheriff Granger on the sidelines, Ember joins forces with Granger’s Deputy to try clear the names of both men, who are dear to her. Plenty of plot twists and red herrings to keep you guessing and entertained. Another must read from Annabel Chase, who really needs a new proofed. 😉

Amber Rose is finally with the man she has true feelings for and a murder of a fairy is pairing her up with the deputy. The fairy was despised by everyone, yet some one brought her back to town. Its up to Amber and the deputy to figure out the clues and expose the killer before they leave town. Cute story, with a simple who dun it and a bit of romance.

New romance, old friends and witches coming of age

I’m kind of obsessed with Anabelle Chase stories, because as soon as I see them available, I buy them.
The Starry Hollow series is full of characters that I have to keep notes to remember who is who!
This story is about a fairy murder who was universally unliked. The suspects are endless, but Ember Rose works it out.

Such a good read!!
I've missed this family and was glad this installment was finally available.
Ember seems to be a little more sure of herself in the witch department, in other areas still a little shaky.
Marley is wonderful, as usual.
The other family members only play a small roll in this section of the series.
I look forward to the next book!!

After hearing a bit about the infamous niece, this book delivers the info and history about her, along with providing some resolution to her hijinks. The love triangle also wraps up, but in an intriguing turn, we see more of the fallout with all of the involved players, which continues into the following books.

What a good book!

Annabel Chase has done it again. She has taken the world of Starry Hollow to new heights.
Once again, I can't say how much I like this world Chase has built. Her characters are amazing. My only regret, the Sheriff has to heal from a major heart break.
Now, on to the next book!

Loved this one

Alec and Granger's past love shows back up in town. Whatever could go wrong? It's great to see Ember coming more into her magic, and now Marley is too. A couple of grammatical errors, but who cares as long as you can read them. Another great one in this series, on to the next one.

Magic & Mythos

Mix magic and emotions and what do you get? A very entertaining book within the series. Ember and Marley both have a lot to learn and accept in their lives and not everything is as it seems.

Love this author’s creativity, she writes amazing series that you just can’t put down.

We are on book 8, and there are lessons Ember still doesn't learn. She shouldn't go see murder suspects alone. Didn't she learn from her repo job? The first thing we heard in book one was don't go to a job alone. But she keeps putting herself in danger in every book. I can't stand reading about stupid women or those who don't learn from their mistakes.

Always an enjoyable experience to read any book by Annabel Chase! This adventure finds our heroin investing a murder where her former flame, the sheriff is on the suspect list. Lots of humor as the murder mystery is solved.

Very disappointing

I am disappointed, typical and predictable having the woman pick the bloody an unobtainable man over the strong kind man. Woman are or should be smarter than that. I don't think I will read anymore of this series.
