It's been an amazing journey since DSP first contracted Lorcan's Desire in January 2011. I've published 2 free reads with the M/M Romance group, my back list is growing, met some great people and have made some amazing friends. I'm still in shock that I'm listed among the many talented authors at Dreamspinner Press! The little voice in the back of my head is screaming, "You are so out of your league." Shhhhh I won't tell them if you don't :)
I have no idea even what to think of this book let alone how to review it. It's like a soap opera for gay men. It has all the aspects of what i DON'T like in a romance but for some reason it works...it just does. I am addicted and will now not be able to rest until i read book 3.
"How does someone get an elephant out of a room without shit breaking?"
It has been a year since Lorcan made his choice to stay in Indiana with Jess and make a life. Even though he and Quinn love each other, there has been too much hurt, and he just...can't...leave Jess. So Quinn stays at the Whispering Pines Ranch and burns with anger and hurt. And drinks. And treats everyone else badly.
When Quinn finds The Push, a local D/s bar, he finally finds an outlet for his anger, using every sub who will bend for him. And meets Ty, a young man who craves the punishment Quinn is only too happy to give him. And give it to him Quinn does, taking what he needs without qualm.
When Lorcan and Jess decide to move back home to Pegasus and work Jess' family ranch, that means facing Quinn again.
"The only thing he knew for certain was that something would get broken."
The anger that each feels for the other, and the hurt, is still there. After seeing each other, they know the love and passion is still there too. But Lorcan is committed to Jess. And after one kiss, Quinn knows his heart still belongs to Lorcan, and Lorcan's to him. And, if he can use Ty's body, maybe he can make it all work.
"Only the extent of the damage was unknown."
When an accident happens, the delicate balance between all these men crumbles, and the tensions break. Will things ever be the same for these four men, and will love have a chance? Will all of the unspoken things will be faced, and all the elephants in the room be named? And how much damage, and to whom, will they leave in their exit?
SJD Peterson had crafted a fine, emotional and devastating, yet oddly hopeful, followup to "Lorcan's Desire" with "Quinn's Need". The three men - Quinn, Lorcan, and Jess - are all lovingly drawn, with faults and cracks and desires and virtues. Each has wants and needs, and each are aware that what exists between Quinn and Lorcan is still unfinished business. There is a crackling tension that carries over into this book, even a year later. Their incompleteness is so true to their characters - Jess quietly complacent in his acceptance, Lorcan internalizing and doing his version of the right thing, and Quinn scowling and physically acting out his pain.
The new factor is Ty. He is all need and want and submission. At least on the surface. And here, Ms. Peterson does what she does so well. She thrown a lump of clay on the wheel, and then gently shapes and works the material under hands until she forms something complex and layered and distinct and perfect. With Ty, we first see him as a receptacle for Quinn's pain and anger. Then he slowly takes shape, and we see a hurt and needing young man, used and abandoned, slow to trust and falling in love. Only to be crushed down one more time.
We see Quinn and Lorcan and Jess grow in their own ways, sometimes hurtfully and sometimes with joy, and we see how abandonment affects each of them, in their own ways. And we get angry with each, and then forgive them. Because, really, how can a man act against his own nature.
And what I really like here is Ms. Peterson has made these men real. Not one of them is a hero. They are just men, going through life looking for love, and hurting others in their search, sometimes intentionally, sometimes not. But there are no punches pulled here. Not quarter asked for, and none given.
And when the elephants in the room are named, they face them. Name them. And do their best to deal with them.
But not all of them. And thank God, there will be a third book in this amazing series.
Another Jo Peterson book, another 5 star keeper. This is the follow-up to Lorcan's Desire, and is wonderful....
At the end of the first book, we knew that Lorcan and Quinn were in love, but that Quinn was extremely afraid to come out of the closet....and Lorcan refused to be Quinn's dirty little secret. Lorcan discovered that his friend Jess was in love with him, and in view of Quinn's stubborn and stupid attitude, he and Jess left Whispering Pines Ranch. This book takes up the story a year later, and Quinn Taylor is still in a state of shock at the fact that Lorcan had the nerve to leave him even though he begged Lorcan to stay. Only two things keep him from falling into a black hole of despair; his work at the ranch and his escape into the world of BDSM at a club called The Push.
Quinn is not in a happy place. He does not get any pleasure from whipping and abusing men, he just does it because he can, he's found a willing outlet for his aggression and resentment at Lorcan's decision. He thinks he is a Dom, but the other Doms at the club despise him because he doesn't treat his subs properly, he abuses them, and it takes a long time for him to understand the difference. He does, however, with the help of Ty Callahan, a man who very much wants to make Quinn forget that Lorcan James exists.
When Jess and Lorcan suddenly find they can return to Oklahoma, something happens that turns everything upside down....and you'll have to find out for yourself, dear reader, what this is, and how this leaves matters between Quinn and the love of his life Lorcan. One thing is for certain....Ty is not prepared to give Quinn up without a fight, and this leads us very nicely into Book 3 Ty's Obsession.
Is it a good or bad thing when you start to not really care about the lead characters but feel deeply for side characters?
This is my dilemma. In book one I never warmed to Lorcan, I hated the way he ran out on Quinn and to my mind used Jess. But I liked Quinn ok and Jess I liked more so they were who I read for.
In book two my feelings for Lorcan never really changed but I found I didn't like Quinn as much any more. For me he became guilty of doing what Lorcan did, only he used Ty.I found myself not really caring about Quinn or Lorcan. In fact I just wanted Quinn and Lorcan to get out. I really didn't care about them. My feelings were all for Jess and Ty. So again I read for them. Ty more than anyone stole my heart. He was so broken but hiding it and to me Quinn broke him even more.
So how do I rate a book I both got bored with and wanted to read more of at the same time?
I'm going with a 4 star rating, after all this book did have me feeling deeply, even if some of it was anger at the 2 lead roles, so thats got to be worth 4 stars right lol.
Can't wait to get Ty's story, just hope he don't back track and start thinking nice things about Quinn lol.
I can't decide whether to give this 2.5 or 3 stars.
This has to be one of THE most unsatisfying HEAs I've ever read.
1) Was the writing always this bad and I just now noticed, or did it actually get worse?
2) Jess's was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too fucking convenient. What a crock of shit. I can't even talk about that - so lame.
3) It all just felt wrong to me. I want to be happy for Lorcan and Quinn, but honestly? I'm not. I didn't even enjoy the last 10%, which was a pretty critical turning point in their relationship.
I do genuinely want to continue reading the series because I care about what happens to some of these guys, so I'm not DNF'ing. I just hope that at SOME point I'll feel like all this bullshit was justified.

I really have to say, during the first book I really started to strongly dislike Lorcan, in this book I can honestly say I hate both Lorcan and Quinn. I thought Lorcan was selfish, self-centered, bitchy, and hot-headed. Flipping out to extremes over small things. In this book I found I really couldnt stand either main characters. They break up over miscommunication, make each other miserable, decide to settle with other people they dont love just to 'move on', than they just disregard and throw said people away like they are nothing! I felt like the end of the book where they finally got together I was suppose to say awww or feel like destinies have been fulfilled but with this couple I thought 'thank god they finally got together so they can leave other people out of their twisted, disfuntional lives. Hopefully this will stop them from hurting anyone that is unfortunate enough to come into their life and love them.' I will probably read the next book or two just because the next one is titled with one of Quinn/Lorcan's victims name. I just hope the poor guy gets his HEA after being so coldly tossed aside in the name of 'true love'.

I really fell for this book. I enjoyed the romance and how the author let us feel what the characters were feeling. And hey, who wouldn’t love a book with hot cowboys. Now for those of you not into m/m romance, this book is sooo not for you. But all others, I really enjoyed it.
Unfortunately, I hadn’t read the first book. So I immediately fell for Quinn and his side of things. While reading it, I felt like had I read the first one, I would have been a Lorcan fan. But that wasn’t the case. So I was rooting for Quinn like there was no tomorrow. I felt his pain and anguish and wanted him to find happiness. I must say, I wasn’t a big fan of Ty. In the end, my heart was reeling for him, but still there was something I didn’t like about the guy.
Lorcan and Jess were a perfect couple. And even though I wanted Quinn and Lorcan to be together, I think I felt much like Lorcan. You’ll have to read to understand what I mean about that. But Jess really pissed me off with
I really like this one enough to try to get my hands on book 1 and read it even though I know how things are going to turn out. I will also be looking forward to book 3 and other books by this author.
A much better and tighter written story than Lorcan's Desire was. I was glad to see so much resolved that had been hanging from the previous book. Quinn's playing in the BDSM scene was well written even though it really was not Quinn. I felt bad for Ty even though he knew that he'd never have Quinn. It was good to see what a year with Jess did for Lorcan's maturity. The story made for an emotional ride with sex that was burning the pages.
I don’t know what to say… I am speechless… How on earth has SJD done it again? Quinn is still struggling with his devastation of Lorcan’s leaving him. He manages to cope day to day, but only with the help of the subs, at the club. He somehow doesn’t fall back into despair. Lorcan is still with Jess, but although he loves Jess he still has to fight his desire for Quinn.
Oh My God… this is… I just… I am freaking gobsmacked. When Quinn learns that Lorcan and Jess are coming back he goes to The Push and his favorite sub Ty. And he does something he has never done before; stayed the night with someone and maybe it’s the start of something more meaningful.
Okay, this one is going to tear you apart and make you wish that you could change everything. You will love and hate Quinn, Lorcan and Jess, but you will just love Ty who has a heart-breaking story in his past. This is again not going to end how you want it to (well how I wanted it to anyway), and your heart will break for what the mean author put Jess through. It was devastating and I just sat there thinking “Oh My God” why, why, why did you do that to him.” I did also feel sorry for Lorcan with what he had to go through, as well, but I was also really pleased that he seemed to have grown up a lot since the last book. Quinn is just clueless as to how Ty feels about him. I mean Ty helps him a lot and they get along great so I got my hopes up but then they were dashed. God. Quinn, I know you love Lorcan and all but geeze man where’s your balls, he stomped all over your heart for Christ’s sake.
This book is brilliant, the story-line is fantastic, the characters are incredible and they have developed and become better people since the last book. The sex is hot, erotic and kinky and there was enough to keep you humming along nicely. The emotions that you feel during this book makes your head spin as you just don’t know who you want to come out on top, Ty or Lorcan. Which one should get Quinn? Jess or Quinn? Which one should get Lorcan? It’s just so hard to choose.
So, boys and girls, this book will frustrate you, wring your heart out, make you stomp your feet and grind your teeth. Will make you wish that you could grab these characters and shake some sense into them. Will make you wish that it was inter-active so you can say ‘No don’t, he’ll break your heart’ and ‘No Ty’s better for you’. So I have to recommend you go out and get this book… it is just fantastic.
Well, Hell… I have to wait ‘til February FEBRUARY for the next book… I don’t think I can do it… I can’t wait that long… I think I have to go author hunting… Bwahaha Mwahaha… you were warned.
For some reason I haven’t quite figured out yet, I didn’t like this book as much as the first one in this series. I will probably try to figure it out as I write this review.
Book two opens with Lorcan in Indiana with Jess trying to make a life together and Quinn coming out of a 3 month drinking bender and finding an outlet for his anger by being a Dom without all the warm tender feelings (yes, I said that). Both Lorcan and Quinn cannot get each other out of their hearts and just drives the guilt to grow in each of them. I guess this is where my frustration comes from. Again, i found myself wanting to grab each of them and lock them together in a room and demand they realize they love each other and living this lie serves no purpose!
What i did see and liked was Quinn growing and getting rid of his anger and self pity. I could see him evolving and that made me just too happy!
So I found myself drawn to the side characters, Ty and Jess. I love these two, and my heart broke for each them. But like I said in review of book 1, I could see the heartbreak coming down the road for Jess. Getting involved with someone who is up front about loving someone else will not end well! (well duh). And again, it’s Jess’s selfless nature that wins the day and solves everyone’s issues. Please pin a medal on that man, and give him a man who will truly love him before anyone!! And please someone get a good therapist for Ty baby! The poor man has some serious hurt and heartbreak in his past that needs to be addressed.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I was deeply involved in the characters and while I was frustrated at times I found the story still captivated me. And I will give a big shout out to SJD Peterson for some excellent writing, your characters definitely got to me.
Okay...so you know you LOVE a book when all you think about is when you are going to be able to steal a few minutes to pick it up again to see what's going to happen next!!!
Quinn's Need was the kind of sequel that you only hope for when you meet characters as addicting as Lorcan and Quinn. There are moments in the book where you feel every kind of emotion...and then because SJD likes to torture us...he throws in a huge plot twist that has us re-evaluating everything we thought:)
In the end, the love triangle did not turn out like I first expected when I started the book...BUT I have to admit that it was pretty damn perfect:)
SJD...seriously...you kill me with your wickedly HOT writing and I LOVED every second of it!!!
Quinn's Need picks up about a year after Lorcan's Desire leaves off. Most of the characters are caught between the person they really want to be with and the person they can actually have. No one is as happy as they could be, but they are doing the best that they can. And, of course, most of the drama here could have been avoided if Lorcan and Quinn would have just talked to each other in the previous book because now, they are both caught up in events that end up spiraling out of control. They get their HEA, but it isn't easy and people (including them) get hurt along the way.
At the start of Quinn's Need , Quinn is in a bad place, though he seems to think he has improved. He's been "playing" Dom over at The Push, but the trouble there is, he's only there to take his frustration out on the subs that he uses. He's pretty much the worst kind of Dom for a good portion of the book, which is to say he's a selfish prick. And not just there, but everywhere. He has alienated everyone that cares for him. Lorcan's rejection hit him hard and as much as he likes to think he is 'over it', he hasn't even begun to deal with his emotions. Instead, he spends his time taking out his anger on willing subs, never giving them anything in return. With Quinn, it's always about him.
Meanwhile, Lorcan and Jess are doing really well and are happy. Lorcan still loves Quinn and Jess knows this, and accepts it, but Lorcan loves Jess, too, and has chosen to be with him. They decide to move back to Jess's place in Pegasus so they can have a ranch of their own, even knowing that unfinished business could make for some lovely complications. Jess isn't really worried, though, he trusts Lorcan and knows they are solid.
However, seeing Quinn again also solidifies the fact that Lorcan is still very much in love with the big man and Quinn's effect on Lorcan has not diminished. Not. At. All. The feeling is quite mutual. Neither of them are really ready to let go, but they know they can't give in, either. Lorcan is with Jess now, and he is not about to jeopardize his relationship with Jess. And Quinn, though the relationship isn't really formalized, has been seeing Ty for the past several months. Ty wants more than Quinn is willing to give him, though. Ty wants to be a full time sub. Wants to be Quinn's sub, but Ty has - justifiably so - trust issues and Quinn hasn't shown that he will put Ty's needs ahead of his own wants.
My heart really breaks for Jess in this book. He's such a wonderful man and he's happy and makes Lorcan happy. I mentioned in my review for Lorcan's Desire that I didn't want to like him. He came in and swept Lorcan away from Quinn. But the truth is, he let Lorcan know that he was worth loving in the open. Jess wouldn't hide his feelings for Lorcan like Quinn was doing. I know we will get a book for Jess to get his HEA, but that doesn't keep me from really feeling awful for him now.
While I was reading this book, I was wondering how Lorcan's transition from Jess to Quinn was going to happen. I admit to not being comfortable with what I thought would happen. I should have trusted the author, though, because she did it right.
Lorcan and Quinn are in love with each other. In a perfect world, Lorcan wouldn't have to choose between Quinn and Jess, and he fantasizes about having them both, but this isn't that kind of story. This is the 'life is gritty and unfair and sometimes downright sucks and we have to make choices that kind of suck no matter what' kind of story. Not everybody walks away happy here. The people are pretty real, in that they can be selfish and short-sighted and even when they really want to do the right thing, they misstep and act out of fear sometimes. There is no easy road here and sometimes, no matter what you do, people get hurt.
A year has passed since their separation but Quinn has only recently started getting over Lorcan, and Lorcan though in love with Jess, hasn't completely forgotten Quinn either. Quinn tries to escape his need for Lorcan by visiting a BDSM club once a week, where he plays the Dom type, the one who never begs but is always in control. It is in that club that he meets Ty, and their sexual relationship gradually turns into one of friendship and affection as well. It is at this point however, that Lorcan and his lover Jess move back to town and Lorcan and Quinn meet again.
Well, here's the drill: I seriously dislike m/m romances (and f/m for that matter) where one of the heroes is noticeably weaker and dependent than the other. I know that the writer's intent was never to portray Lorcan as such, instead tried to prove the exact opposite, but I didn't feel it. Lorcan came out to me as relatively weak, needy, one of those people who can't stand in life in their own two feet but constantly need someone strong -physically as well as emotionally- beside them. So, forgive me if I could not understand why those two gorgeous men both looked at him as if he was God on earth. And not only was he not a strong character (looking to Quinn for his brawn, Jess for his steadiness and unlimited acceptance), but was weak in the face of temptation as well. While I could forgive him living with a man while in love with another, I could never forgive him his spending as much time with his ex-lover as he could and then some, while his current lover was away from their home.
This book was kind of uneven; we have a very emotional first half, where we see a broken Quinn trying to get over Lorcan and his baby steps towards healing with unexpected help from Ty, an equally -but for different reasons- broken man. I really, really loved this part and desperately wished for Quinn and Ty to be together. When Lorcan got in the picture though, the whole atmosphere changed. Quinn forgot Ty completely and pretty much everything and everyone else, in his eagerness to be there for Lorcan and help him in every way he could. I felt that the writer didn't deal Ty's and Quinn's relationship well, because at more than one point we have Quinn thinking how much more than a sexual partner or a simple friend Ty is to him, but in the blink of an eye, he stops thinking about him completely without another mention. That made me feel as if Lorcan as well as Quinn, just got into a lover's quarrel and instead of solving it themselves as they should, chose to drag innocent people in their fight intentionally, and of course ended up hurting them in the process. The reason I disliked Lorcan more than Quinn, is that Lorcan was aware of Jess's love for him and took full advantage of it, but to Quinn's credit (and stupidity) he was unaware of Ty's feelings and thus considered him immune to heartache.
It's a weird feeling when you read a book where you wish the heroes ended up with different partners instead of each other, and it's to the author's credit that I didn't end up hating the book after all but enjoyed it none the less. I'm certainly going to read Ty's book because I want to watch this great guy, get the HEA hge deserves.
I was completely confused the whole time I was reading this book. Not with the plot of the book but with my own feelings. Anyone who has read my review of Lorcan's Desire will know that I fell hard for Jess in that book and my feelings were Lorcan and Quinn were less clear cut. In this book Jess appears only for a short time but he continues to have a huge impact on the story and on the lives of the other two men. Also, we get to know Ty better in this book and I found him worming his way into my heart as well. So, admitting that I like these two characters better than the MCs, the confusion sets in. Despite hating the way that Lorcan ended up with Jess in the previous book and hating the way that Quinn seems completely oblivious to Ty's growing feelings for him in this book, I still desperately wanted Lorcan and Quinn to be together. It is so obvious that they are perfect for each other and completely in love and when they did eventually get together I had a huge smile on my face. My heart was breaking for Jess and the sacrifices that he made but I am also happy that he has decided not to settle for less than he deserves and hopeful that his reward will come later in the series. I was angry when Quinn dumped Ty without a backwards glance to be with Lorcan, especially as Ty just beginning to have faith in another Dom and even Quinn's ignorance of the true situation didn't lessen my feelings. Now, as well as hoping for Jess, I find myself wishing that Ty will meet someone who will understand him and help him work through his feelings. So, happy as I am that Lorcan and Quinn have finally worked things out, there are a lot more loose ends in this series that I am waiting to see worked out.

These books have totally sucked me in. Sexy ranchers and angst out my eyeballs. It's almost like a soap opera where the one character you like in the beginning, you start to hate around the middle.
The lives of Quinn, Lorcan and Jess are turned upside down in this one as Lorcan and Jess return to town a year after they left, in order to take over Jess's family ranch. Quinn has found an outlet for dealing with the pain of Lorcan's leaving him, but he has never really dealt with it. Jess is willing to take whatever Lorcan can give him knowing that Lorcan wil always love Quinn, and Lorcan is dreading the returning Pegasus and facing Quinn after refusing all of Quinn's attempts to contact him. Events require all the characters to reevaluate where they are and where they want to be and come to terms with the way their actions have affected those around them.
I'm almost afraid of what's in store for the next one. I don't think Ty is going to handle things very well.
3.5 stars. I really disliked Quinn after the first book. I'm still not a huge fan after this book for many reasons, though he has made vast improvements.
The one thing I dislike about these is that the various issues seem to be way more drawn out than they need to be. I find myself begging for things to just move on.
Jess broke my heart, even if I disagreed with the way he treated Lorcan. Lorcan wants it all and doesn't or is unable to give up any of it. Drives me a little nuts that he continues to be like this. Thankfully, near the end, he seems to have made a decision.
By far, the scenes with Quinn and Ty were the hottest part of this book. I so badly wanted more of them, especially once Quinn started to take the dom/sub thing more seriously. Ty is such a tortured soul, and I felt horrible for him. I'm totally psyched that his book is next.
Ms. Peterson is skilled at character development as well as plot sequence. I thought some parts of this story dragged a little bit but it wasn’t distracting enough to make me not enjoy the book. Overall, this is a beautifully written book about tortured men who are trying to find their way to happiness and discover that they may need some help. It is a very interesting take on how a man discovers that he is a Dom but doesn’t have the slightest understanding what that is or how to become a good one. Great story. I can hardly wait to pick up TY’S OBSESSION.
I didn't like Lorcan in the first one I don't like Quinn in the second one. They both "love" each other but can seem to find their collective asses with both hands. Both characters hurt other people, are totally clueless, and more than a little selfish. I don't think I've met a MC couple I dislike more. The only interesting part was the BDSM and it just couldn't make up for the rest.
Oh the tangle web we weave when we run due to fear. It takes twice the pain and length of time to fix the things we broke due to fear. This is a story about the fixing.
Now we're talking... I started reading this series for Ty and Blake's sake only. The first wasn't interesting, this one got a bit better because of Ty, I'm having high hopes for Ty's Obsession. ^^
ACK! Okay, this second book in the series was just as traumatizing (if not more so) than the first book. In the last book, Quinn loses Lorcan to Jess and Lorcan and Jess leave for their HEA. This is upsetting ALL AROUND because everyone knows that Lorcan doesn't love Jess the way he loves Quinn. Lorcan knows it, Jess knows it, we as readers know it - it's just a friggin' hot mess. So I was not happy. In THIS book, it's more of the same but it's worse because now Quinn drags poor Ty into his shit-storm of a life. Oh poor Quinn - woe is me - the love of my life left so I'm going to beat the hell out of a sub until he begs me for more. If Lorcan doesn't need me, this masochist sure as hell will! Oh Quinn, Quinn, Quinn.... *sigh*.... you have issues.
I love books that have a lot of controversial characters, and this book is chock full of them. Even more than I like reading about them, I like discussing them and the best part of this book was that I was able to discuss this book with the author, Sjd Peterson, at GRL this past week. Jo Peterson got an earful from me, but it was also really enlightening to see the characters from her point of view. Do I like Lorcan? NO. Do I like Quinn? NO. Did Jess (whom I adore) make me angry as all hell? YES. Was I pissed about what happens to Ty. HELL YES. Wow - take a deep breath and count backwards from 100....
So why is this a four star book for me? Because it is an emotional roller coaster. I can see the growth of all the characters and I can understand that while Lorcan and Quinn may be meant to be....they were not meant to be "right now". They both had a hell of a lot of growing to do. Did they use people on the road to that growth. Yes indeed. But Jess knew it and Ty knew it. The only thing that REALLY bothered me with Ty is that he was perfectly happy being used and abused until
I still don't like Lorcan and Quinn, but I am told by SJD Peterson that books 1-3 are really just one long book broken into manageable pieces. I can't wait to read Ty's story and I think Conner's and Jess's stories are going to be even better. I think I'll be able to forgive Lorcan and Quinn when Ty and Jess get their HEAs. Because really, Ty and Jess are too good for Quinn and Lorcan and those two asses deserve each other.
I really enjoyed the writing and the depth of the characters in this series so far. I'm looking forward to reading more.
As much as I adore Jo Peterson, and her writing, I've been holding off on reading Quinn's story. Mainly because I read this book many years ago, and it devastated me then. Even though I know the outcome of this novel, the thought of putting myself back through this emotional wringer, voluntarily no less, had me almost cringing. Then I reminded myself that 'Quinn's Need' and each book in the series truly deserves the best review I can write, so I grabbed the tissues and opened my reader.
"He’d come back from his three months of self-imposed isolation a changed man. Never again would he let anyone get close enough to hurt him. He would not beg. Never would he allow pain and misery to render him so incapable of living. He’d kept that promise. So why in the hell couldn’t he take pride in it?"
I didn't blame Lorcan for leaving with Jess. Jess wanted to shout his love for Lorcan to the sky and damned if anyone cared, while Quinn wanted to hide Lorcan away like a dirty little secret. Granted, Quinn's behavior came so much from the life he'd led that I couldn't be angry that he felt like that. I was, however, furious that he let his preconceived notions push Lorcan away, and I was completely filled with rage to return a year later to see how much damage Quinn is doing to himself and others with his sheer stubbornness and refusal to admit the truth.
"Lorcan would move heaven and hell before he would ever let Jess be hurt. The only thing he couldn’t do—and he had tried—was stop missing Quinn. He couldn’t stop loving Quinn. The only thing that made his guilt bearable was that he knew with conviction that he would never give Jess up for the other man." (Never say never, Lorcan. Not when it involves the heart and soul.)
'Quinn's Need' is a powerfully emotional journey that, at times, is so hard to watch. My heart broke again and again for Jess, and his kindness and compassion were remarkable to witness. I wanted to be mad at Lorcan for how everything ended up, but I understand the lure of your first love, and it's powerful stuff, plus Jess made the decision for them all in the end. I wanted to be equally angry, probably more so, at Quinn for how selfish he was in terms of Ty, regardless of what happened in the end. And I hated what Ty went through, but was sad and disappointed in him for some of his choices. This book truly shows how the actions of one can wrap multiple people up in a giant knot that just keeps getting tighter and tighter, until it snaps.
I really loved this book, even with all of the emotional drama, and my upset over what happened between the characters. Quinn and Lorcan found their way back together, Ty will be on to his own adventure and meeting a man so much better for him than Quinn, and regardless of what Jess considers his selfish decision, he will also get his own happy ever after, I just know it. I honestly can't recommend this series enough but I do stress that the books be read in order.
Quinn Taylor has spent the past year trying to deal with the fact that Lorcan James moved away. Quinn has used the work that needs to be done on his ranch as one way of dealing with his loss and escaping to a club that deals in the world of BDSM has helped him handle his emotions. Quinn now makes others beg him instead of doing the begging himself. He is determined that no one will ever get him to beg them again.
Lorcan James is back in Pegasus and while his feelings for Quinn haven’t changed he is still with Jess that one that he originally left town with. Lorcan is dealing with his emotions when it comes to Quinn knowing that even if they are now living in the same town things between them haven’t changed. Lorcan is with Jess and has managed to find a measure of happiness. Now if he can just get his feelings for Quinn under some control he will be even happier in his life.
While Lorcan and Quinn’s feelings for each other may not have changed the fact is now Quinn has caught the attention of Ty Callahan and Lorcan still has Jess in his life. Now Lorcan and Quinn are working on finding their own happiness even if that means that happiness isn’t with each other. Only time will tell if they will be able to find what they are looking for and where that might be.
This story is well written and the reader gets to see the journey each character takes to get where they end up. This is one story that should be read with the first story in this series otherwise the reader will be left feeling they are missing parts of the story. While the first story ends with a happy for now storyline this one closes some of the character’s story line quite nicely. This one may not be for all; but those who read this one won’t be disappointed in the emotional path that the author takes the reader on. Once the reader starts this one they will find it very hard to put down until the very last page.
Ugh. So I have very few "off" switches when I read. You know, those things that immediately throw you out of the story. One I do have is cheating. Even if there was no sex, I believe you end one relationship before you go into (or get back with) another. I hated how selfish Lorcan and Quinn were. I get it - they were fated to be together and they never stopped loving each other. TOUGH! Act like men and deal with the relationships you are in before jumping back together.
This is a hard book to rate because it was very well written and it inspired such strong emotions in me. That the emotions were anger, disgust and hatred seems irrelevant. You can't say a book that inspired such strong feelings was bad. It just wasn't for me. Will I read the next book? Perhaps, just not for a while.
Sad, happy, heart-wrenching, sweet, lovely... that about sums it up. When Lorcan and Jess move back to town, Lorcan is slammed in the face with his feelings for Quinn that he has tried to bury for the past year. When Lorcan and Jess's relationship hits an unexpected rough patch, Lorcan's feelings for Quinn really begin to invade his thoughts. Lorcan, Quinn and Jess are all forced to take a good look at their relationships and their feelings for one another. Are Lorcan's loyalty and love for his best friend Jess stronger than his love and desire for his first love Quinn? Are either Jess or Quinn going to be satisfied living as just friends with Lorcan? Is Jess going to be truly happy knowing that Lorcan will never love him as much as he loves Quinn? And then there's Quinn's new friend, Ty, who is the only person who has been able to bring a smile to Quinn's face since Lorcan left. Even though Ty knows that Quinn loves Lorcan, he can't help falling for Quinn and doesn't expect Lorcan to re-enter Quinn's life in a romantic way. I couldn't put this book down. I was completely pulled into all of the characters and wanted each of them to be happy, despite how impossible that seemed. I can't wait for the third book.
After winding myself up into a real state after reading book one of this series, I swore to myself I would not read another of SJDP's books again! Of course being the nosey sort of person that I am and having read reviews on goodreads of book two, I took the plunge and bought it. Never have I been so worked up about characters in a book, Quinn I wanted to throttle if not kill, Lorcan I wanted to shake him until he saw sense, Jess I wanted to bring home (for my own) and Ty I wanted to bring home to look after. The end of this book saw the way for book three being paved but at least the main story of Quinn and Lorcan had been resolved but I have to say that Jess got a raw deal even though it now appears that his physio Jack and his first loves' brother will be fighting over him soon. As for Ty, he is a whipping boy in more ways than one and you can't help feeling sorry for the guy - lets see what SJDP has planned for him in book three.
All in all a well written story with characters who "get under your skin" - be prepared for a different M/M ranch/western story - probably more realistic than most.

Lorcan has been gone from Whispering Pines for a year. And yet, neither Lorcan nor Quinn is ready to close each other off from their lives. Each has dealt with the separation in different ways - Lorcan finding peace and acceptance in Jess' arms, and Quinn finding an outlet for his control issues at the local leather daddy club The Push.
Quinn's Need is the continuation of Lorcan and Quinn's story, and on the surface appears to be an erotic tale of angst and forbidden desires. But SJD Peterson has written a second installment that takes the characters to places you don't expect. She intelligently explores themes of loyalty, and sacrifice, while taking the reader on an emotional journey that ultimately provides a satisfying ending. Quinn's Need raises the bar for erotica, providing as much character depth as there is heat. And, wow, the sex scenes are HOT.
I can't wait for book three in this series Ty's Obsession. Ty was the highlight of this book for me, and he alone is a reason to pick this book up.
4.5 stars out of 5.
[Review note: I received this book from Netgalley.]
I really enjoyed this book. I have to say as much as I love Lorcan and Quinn, I really got choked up over Ty. The way Quinn treated him was pretty awful. Sexual liaisons at the club are one thing. Going out to dinner, asking someone to come work for you. Making plans, clearing out a spare bedroom so that if they need to spend the night they could is another.
I really felt drawn to Ty's character. Not because I have a thing for BDSM characters, but more because I could feel that he was a more three denominational character. I'm glad that he wasn't just some plot devise. I can't wait to see where Ty's story goes in the next book.
I mean yeah yeah Quinn and Lorcan...meant to be together. Blah blah blah. I get it. I dunno. I guess I'm just drawn to the bitter and bittersweet than HEA.
Def. worth a read. Def would have to read the first one. If you didn't there is no way you would know what was going on.
