Mac Travis thought it was easy to disappear in the Florida Keys. Living on an island; fishing, diving, and some salvage work kept him busy—until his past catches up to him. When a famous treasure hunter is murdered, Mac is handed his research of a hundred lost wrecks, but to save a friends family from a crazed competitor he must find the right one—and find it first, before people dear to him start to die. The latest in the Mac Travis Adventure Series from best-selling author, Steven Becker, is set against the backdrop of the awe-inspiring Florida Keys. If you enjoy boating, fishing, scuba diving, and the counter-culture of the Keys, you will love this new stand-alone adventure.
This series never ceases to impress me...this time, a hurricane is bearing down on the Keys and Mac & Mel are forced to evacuate Woods Island. Meanwhile, Tru is up to his usual shenanigans but things take a serious turn when the gang is forced to evade a dirty treasure hunter. Bugara knows that Mac has the research from Bugara’s deceased accomplice and can locate a huge treasure. He’s desperate enough to kidnap Justine and Allie, Kurt Hunter’s wife and daughter, to force Mac’s hand. Yes...Kurt and family have a cameo in this book. I kept wishing that we’d get to hear Martinez yelling at Hunter...but alas, I’ll just have to wait for the next Kurt Hunter book! I love how the author uses historical facts and references as the back story for Mac’s adventures and was intrigued by Fort Jefferson. In spite of a hurricane, corrupt official and a bad guy...Mac, his sidekick and friends survive...until the next adventure! I eagerly accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
It took me a while to finish this one. Everytime I'd pick it up it would put me to sleep. There were other more exciting things to do like watching paint dry or watching the grass grow. So many times during the story I had flash backs to the same story being told in one of the Jesse McDerrmit stories. It was as if the author couldn't come up a new idea so he told a semblance of an old story with a different cast.
There were also many typos, poor grammar, and places in the story where there was no continuity. In one particular scene, they were about to land in a sea plane when some one was banged into the side of the "boat" and then everything was fine when the pontoons hit the water. Were they in a plane or a boat. Sure couldn't tell by the narrative. This was the last book by Becker that I'll be reading.
Wood’s Tempest follows Mac Travis, a man who wants nothing more than a quiet life in the Florida Keys but finds himself dragged into danger when a murdered treasure diver leaves him a cache of research pointing to dozens of lost shipwrecks. What begins as a reluctant curiosity turns into a fight for survival when a ruthless rival discovers the same information and is willing to kidnap, threaten, and kill to claim the treasure for himself. As a massive hurricane barrels toward the islands, Mac is forced into a race against time, navigating rising seas, violent criminals, and the moral weight of protecting the people he cares about. The storm becomes both a literal and symbolic force, pushing Mac to confront what he’s willing to risk for justice, loyalty, and the fragile sense of home he’s built on the water.
Again, Steven Becker has upped his game, as far as I am concerned, with these last two books in the Mac Travis series. I like the new addition to the cast of players -- Ned. A cantankerous old man, that doesn't like to be told that he can't do something (because of his age). This story involves the whole ensemble of characters (Mac, Mel, Tru, Pamela, Kurt and Justine -- and the adventure involves them all. There is a twist in the telling of the tale, that involves another OLD friend, that I really enjoyed. I would recommend this to people that like the suspense, mystery thriller -- and like for the local to be in the Florida Keys.
Each Mac Travis book gets better and better. I especially like when my fav authors share their characters as is the case with this book. Steven Becker has “borrowed” Rusty and Jesse McDermitt from Wayne Stinnett and The Rusty Anchor Bar & Grill as a safe docking area on Marathon Key to furthe enhance our reading pleasure. Steven Becker has also brought Kurt & Justine Hunter to Key West to avoid the same Hurricane as Mac Travis and arranged for them to reconnect after Backwater Tide at Fort Pierce in the Dry Tortugas. This is a book not to be missed.
A can't put down, until the very end read!! All my favorites are here!! Mac Travis and Mel, also Trufante with his girlfriend Pamela. Add in Ned, you have a crew that can find treasure from wreckage in the deep blue sea! We get the addition of Kurt Hunter, along with his wife, Justine and his daughter Allie. Of course there is a bad guy, who kidnaps Justine and Allie!! A MUST READ!!
Effectively this seems to be part one of a two-parter, although the main story is wrapped up within this volume. But, oh, the teaser! No, of course I'm not going to share--no spoilers! But Mac and Kurt Hunter are back in action together with a number of other favorite crew members, hot on the trail of ancient seaborne treasure. Some interesting nuggets of history are thrown in for your delectation, as well.
An SB. Key West Adventure Thriller (MTAB - 8)/Key West and the surrounding areas.
SB. has. penned the eighth Mac Travis mystery thriller, which contains a man falling into his lap with many notorious maps. Before he is able to help his old friend he was murdered. This led MT. To go on a very dangerous wreck. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
I would recommend anything that Steven Becker has written. Author has a gift and I feel fortunate to have found one of his books. Those times you stumble across an author and you think i am going to read every single book he wrote - hang on Steven Becker is the real thing.
This series gets better and better. They are well written, the characters full and the desprictions of the location makes you feel like you are there. Best to read these in order at the story starts where the last book left off. There is some filler information to help you along if you haven't read previous books, but it leaves much out.
A hurricane, crooked treasure hunter, and a park director all in one book!
Mac Travis reunites with Pamela to enlist her help in finding Tru to save his trawler from a hurricane. He also needs their help to rescue his new friends from a ruthless treasure hunter.
I'm amazed that this author can write so many fantastic novels, I hope that he never stops writing. His books are some of the best Entertainment I have read and worth the time to read them. Thank you for a very fun entertaining read.
To the next installment of this trilogy. Two things I want; Bugarra's nuts in a terminal twist and what's under the Sumter? Or is that the next Kurt Hunter?

I think everyone's imagination is stirred when pirate treasure is mentioned. Even, I think, armchair treasure hunters like me. Each book in this series, it seems, has a different treasure in it. Where Mac goes, trouble follows. If Tru is with him, it is double the trouble. So, get your diving gear ready and jump in!!!
