This is book 9 in the Blackmoore Sisters Cozy Mystery series. Morgan Blackmoore has a secret she's keeping from her sisters, her mother and her boyfriend. She thinks she's losing her powers and she secretly visited a paranormal healer to find out what's wrong, and if it's possible to get them back. To keep this from her sisters and mother she has to lie about where she was. As we all know once you tell one lie, it doesn't stop there, and with Morgan it snowballs into a web of lies. It gets worse when the paranormal healer, Clementine Vega, is found dead the day after Morgan visited her, and the new sheriff is gunning for Morgan as the prime suspect!

This is a another satisfying addition in this series. Belladonna, the family cat, is front and center in this book and although the rest of the family may be in the dark about Morgan's secret, it seems Belladonna knows all about it. Morgan learns she's been taking her powers for granted instead of nurturing them like her sister Celeste does.

I didn't understand why Morgan thought she had to keep the problem with her powers a secret from her family. I feel they would've been very supportive and tried to help her, but then the story would've been less suspenseful. I was hoping once Sheriff Overton was gone things would have gotten a little easier for the Blackmoore family, but it seems the new Sheriff--Donna White--is cut from the same cloth.

The author does a good job at letting us inside Morgan's head to see her internal struggle with the issue of her powers declining. I didn't guess who the guilty party was until Morgan put all the pieces together. This is a cozy mystery so there's no gruesome or graphic descriptions.

To be honest, I'm happy it's finally the last book in the series. This book has even more whining, the story becomes really boring, just the same pattern, nothing new and exciting, no proper mystery to dive into.
Morgan Blackmoore seemed to be mature, but turned out she is totally opposite, a bit selfish and even stupid. Where is her common sense? There was a murder and she is putting everyone in danger just because she is afraid of sharing her worries with her family? What's wrong with this world? Try to be honest, people!
Shocking secret, really? I'm so disappointed in this book. When I finished reading, I've rated it 3 stars, but now thinking it's more 1.5 or even 1. Sorry, dear author, I really loved your other CM series and the first 4-5 books of this one, but not the final books.

This was a really good addition to the Blackmoore Sisters series. The eldest sister, Morgan, juggles her fear that she has lost her powers with the very real fear that she may may be arrested for murder by a nasty police chief that has it in for her and her family. An engaging mystery with return appearances by Morgan’s sisters, their boyfriends, Joanna, the matriarch of the Blackmoore family, and of course, the family cat, Belladonna. Of course, Belladonna is more than just a cat - we just haven’t figured out just what - or who - she is. This book embodies the best things about cozy mysteries - enjoy!

Hidden Secrets is Book 9 in the Blackmoore Sisters Cozy Series. I loved this book!
Morgan Blackmoore has a secret and she is hiding it from her sisters and telling lie after lie to try to keep her secret. Next thing we know, Morgan is a murder suspect and telling more lies!

This series keeps getting better! Of course , Belladonna was back and waving her paw at Morgan every time she lied. There were definitely some surprises in this book I didn't see coming. I was especially surprised at the ending.

If you like great , funny characters, a bit of a paranormal aspect and a good mystery, you are sure to love this book and all books in this fantastic series.

Good Read

This is a little slower than Leighann Dobbs' previous books in this Blackmoore Sisters series but still a good read.

I have read and enjoyed an earlier book in this series. This one had a different tone and I resorted to skimming part of it because the main character was constantly whiny and self-pitying. I’m just an unsympathetic jerk and didn’t have the patience for it. The plot was fine.

Hidden Secrets is the ninth book in the Blackmoore Sisters series by Leighann Dobbs. This story centers around Morgan Blackmoore who has a secret she doesn't want to share with anyone especially her sisters. Morgan had visited a paranormal healer, Clementine Vega, who is found the next day murdered in her kitchen. Morgan becomes the primary suspect in her death by the sheriff. Clementine's neighbor, Alma Myers, reported seeing a Toyota truck like Morgan's in front of Clementine's house on the day of the murder. Morgan lies to her sisters and tells them she was not there so she wants to find out who killed Clementine as soon as possible.
All of the sisters, their mother, Johanna along with their boyfriends, Mateo Ortez, Luke Hunter, Jake Cooper and Calvin Reed all wonder if Dr. Bly has his hands in her death. They also wonder if she could have been killed by another paranormal in the area.
There are a few other suspects that could have killed Clementine. Could it be Alma, her boyfriend, Benedict Donovan or Rose DeGarmo, from Forever Fortunes. They all must be investigated by the sisters and their boyfriends.
If you like a great cozy mystery, this book is for you. I highly recommend this for you.

I absolutely LOVED it!

Love. Looooooooooove. Lovelovelovelovelove. Loved Morgan. Loved reading about her internal struggles. Loved the cat Belladonna. Loved the case. Loved the book!

Once Morgan starts lying, it snowballs out of control really quickly. Of course she knows it’s wrong, but one lie just leads to another and another and another. Quote: “The feline was still giving Morgan the stink eye, and she knew why. Because she kept digging herself deeper and deeper into trouble with all her deceptions.”

I loved the insight in Morgan’s inner turmoil. There was enough attention to the case itself as well. Her insecurities were part of the story, part of the solving of the mystery. I may not have understood why Morgan felt the need to keep it a secret, but it sure made for a good story. No, a GREAT story! Well-written, in a way that made me want more. It had a good flow, a good pace, and I wasn’t bored for even a second. Entertaining all the way! A real page-turner. I loved it so much, I can’t think of a single criticism, and believe you me, I say it when I do.

This is a bit shorter than the other Blackmoore Sisters books I've read. It's apparently #9 in the series, so I've skipped over quite a few. However, the status as far as boyfriends, talents, etc. go, is still pretty much the same as in the last book I read (which was somewhere around #4 or 5.) The oldest sister Morgan, fears that she is losing her paranormal power of intuition and herbology, and she doesn't want her sisters to know about it. So she keeps lying and pretending, and digging herself in deeper. When a local woman is murdered, Morgan is accused because her car was seen there by a neighbor. So she and her sisters start investigating to try to clear Morgan's name. There are also some vague references to evil paranormals such as the girls have had to fight in previous stories, but that never really goes anywhere - perhaps just suggested for use in a later book?

I would give it 2 1/2 stars if possible, because it was just verging on a 3. But this was just not as good as the previous books I've read in this series, primarily because Morgan was being so stupid about trying to keep her secret; and also because not much really happens - it's more of a novelette and a lot is not fully developed. Of course everything eventually works out, and we meet a couple interesting new characters. At least they were new to me - they may have been introduced somewhere between books 5 and 9 in the gap which I haven't read. Yet.

Relieved this is the final book in the series. I had high hopes for this series & it started out enjoyable, but then a couple books in I found myself very frustrated with how oblivious the sisters would be (also frustrated that what seems to be a very good attorney didn’t go after Overton for false arrest & harassment in the first book, especially when his behavior continued…don’t even get me started on how irritated I was that NONE of them called their attorney in this book when the new sheriff picked up where Overton left off).

That came to a head in this final book, where Morgan just kept making things worse by lying, the stupid things she would do to try to cover up her lies & then she NEVER fesses up…sigh.

I did give this one 2 stars because Belladonna amused me more than usual & for the fun fortune teller, but if I hadn’t been listening to the audiobook on my evening work commute I’m not sure even those high points could have kept me engaged to even finish this one (knowing it was the final book helped). All in all, there were more books in this series that I liked than I didn’t, but after the trainwreck this one turned into, it was definitely my final Blackmoore sisters book.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Leighann Dobbs is the consummate paranormal cozy mystery writer!

Hidden Secrets, book 9 in the Blackmoore Sisters series ,by Leighann Dobbs, is another example of why she remains on my Must Read shelf! I love this series and the close knit Blackmoore women. Leighann has a skill with words that make these characters leap off the page. As per usual, the Blackmoore sisters are caught up in another murder mystery. Who did it and was magic involved is the basis of the suspense of this story. Leighann keeps the tension going providing twists and turns that keep the reader guessing until the final page!

I am somewhat disappointed that the men in their life were not as involved in this novel as usual. And really is Jolene ever going to realize that an Alpha males protectiveness is not meant to control but rather due to his inability to live a quality life without his soulmate! As usual, their cat Belladonna , is a major contributor to solving the mystery ! I love that quirky cat!

This is a great novel to curl up with during your afternoon tea!

Morgan's powers seem to be failing her, so goes to a paranormal healer for help. Right after though, the woman is found dead, and someone tells the sheriff she had seen Morgan's truck at the dead woman's home. Now here it gets interesting, as Sheriff White is acting exactly like Sheriff Overton; all set to take Morgan to jail, and openly stating that all the sisters are "not so innocent". Could this new sheriff also be a minion of Dr. Bly's, and has it in for the sisters?

Morgan though begins a series of lies, as she doesn't want anyone to know the problems she's having with her powers; and the lies only keep getting more and more messy. That's what happens when you lie, and can't remember, or keep straight, what you said! Belladonna though is keeping a watchful eye on Morgan, almost as if the cat is warning her, "I know what you're doing, so stop lying before you get in too deep."

A really enjoyable Blackmoore Sister's story, mainly centered and Morgan but as always the Sister's stick together even if one of them is hiding something.

I really love how this series has a slow unfolding to it as far as the supernatural side goes, the Sister's are all growing in their respective powers some quicker than others, some finding road blacks to test them.

I love how all of the Sisters seems more centered and focused since they found their mother and they all have a wonderful supportive male partner even Jolene if she eventually lets Mateo on in fully...lol young love is refreshing and funny.

The mystery was interesting having the human element and less supernatural but no less gripping and oh the new Sherrif well she has just got to go...lol

Looking forward to more from the Sisters in the future.

Morgan Blackmoore is trying to keep it a secret that her powers are not as they used to be. Embarrassed, she goes to a paranormal healer in hopes to get her powers back to full strength, or even reliable again.

The next day the sheriff shows up stating that Clementine Vega has been murdered, and she was one of the last people seen in the area, and is the number one suspect. AS she and her sisters investigate the murder in hopes of finding the killer before she is arrested for the crime. She learns that her sisters have been practicing their powers and are now much stronger because of it.

This is another fun story from Leighann Dobbs. It has a good bit of humor in it, lots of twist, and a very judgmental cat that is probably more than she seems to be.

Morgan Blackmoore has a secret. A secret she is hiding from everyone except Bella. For some reason Morgan feels that Bella, the cat knows her secret. Morgan's powers is fading, heck they are gone. She needs those powers to help her sisters fight the paranormals that mean to do harm. She goes to a paranormal healer, Clementine Vega for help. Problem is the next day, Clementine is found dead and someone witnessed Morgan's truck there. Now Morgan is the sheriff's number one suspect! As the sisters go around trying to prove Morgan's innocence, Morgan continues to hide her secret. Will they find the killer? Will Morgan's secret be exposed? You will need to read the book to find out. I voluntarily read a free ARC of this book.

Hidden Secrets (Blackmoore Sisters Cozy Mystery Book 9) — Leighann Dobbs (19 chapters) Feb. 8-13, 2021

This is the second book in as many months of reading a good ol’ Ms. Dobbs story.

This one is book 9 of the Blackmoore sisters. Hidden Secrets is one of those books that feels like a filler in between stories. This one involves the oldest losing her powers. She goes to a family friend to help but before she can, the helper is killed and she is left being accused of the crime. I am rather perturbed at her for doing some of the things she did in this book and for not having faith in her fam.

Again, I am not sure how this relates to the arc of this story, but it was a decent enough read.

And I still want to know the secret to that cat!

Three stars.

Innocent omissions usher in a twisty turned mystery full of colorful suspects and one pesky sheriff bent on blaming the sisters!

A mystery murder that looks text book clear to the new sheriff becomes muddled when too much " help" jumps in to clear youngest sister Jo. Will Jo's lack of confidence in her gifts land her prison? Unable to trust her closet family with another bigger hidden problem clouds the way to navigate what to do. You will enjoy Hidden Secrets of you've tried wrestling your way out of a mess and if you have sisters you may love the humor. I know I did. I have lots of sisters and love a great mystery. Enjoy the adventure!

Hidden Secrets is the ninth book in the Blackmoore Sisters series by Leighann Dobbs. This story centers around Morgan Blackmoore who has a secret she doesn't want to share especially with her sisters.

A paranormal healer, Clementine Vega, who is found murdered in her kitchen. Morgan becomes the primary suspect in her death.

Loved that the book centered on the sisters and had the boyfriends in the fringes.
Belladonna, the cat is great character. Fun, fast read with humor.

I received an e-book ARC. These are my own opinions.

This cozy mystery is about keeping secrets from family and friends. Morgan is having some problems with her powers, they seem to be weakening. So Morgan tried to cover up this fact and in turn she had to tell lie after lie. Some to her sisters and some to the police.
The sheriff came to question her in the death of Clementine. She had been to see her the day before but lied about it cause she didn't want people to know she was seeing a paranormal healer. Morgan did not kill Clementine so she and her sisters needed to find the killer to clear her name.

Entertaining Cozy Mystery

I like the Blackmore Sisters and the way they relate to one another. I'm with the cat though, lying is not cool! The story is strong and engaging. There isn't much magic actively going on, it is more passive. I'm fine with that with the larger than life characters and the side mystery of the treasure hunters. Hopefully that will be addressed in a future book because I'm curious! I think passive magic is overlooked, so this book was a pleasant surprise. Well done.

Great Story Even with Lying Playing a Prominent Role

This was another engrossing story in the series. There is enough background in the first chapter to catch up on important things you need to know if you read the books out of order.

Morgan is once again a murder suspect and is lying to keep her sisters from knowing that her powers are weak or missing. This is a story of struggling with rebalancing your life while try to extricate yourself from a web of lies.

I enjoyed the story and couldn’t stop reading.

Lies

When you start lying it tends to do two things, it snowballs and it’s never ending. Morgan gets caught up in a tiny lie. More of an omission really. It snowballed from there. In an attempt to hide that she was losing her talents she sought help from a healer who ended up dead shortly after her visit. Rather than coming clean she doubled down. Along the way she found the help she needed in the most surprising of places. When she needed it most her powers came back. Just in time to avoid jail and death.

3 stars.

This time it's Morgan, the oldest sister with the intuitive gift who's feeling insecure when she seems to be losing her gift. When the paranormal healer she visited secretly was found dead, she became the sheriff's prime suspect. In order to keep her sisters in the dark, Morgan piled on the lies and resolved to find the real killer by herself.

I think there were some obvious clues when she started interviewing various people. So, it came as no surprise when the culprit was revealed. It's another easy book to while away for a few hours.

Morgan, eldest of the Blackmore sister’s has a secret in this new book by Leighann Dobbs. Unfortunately, that secret leads to Morgan being accused of murder. A fun cozy that eventually teaches Morgan not to overlook her magical gifts. I received an ARC of this book and it was the first that I read of this series. As I have read other books by this author, Leighann Dobbs has written another good book no matter what name she chooses to use.

Noquitt life is never boring

When you keep lying and covering up with more lies it is never a good thing, and doesn’t Morgan know that. She’s been on a quest to keep the secret of her failing powers from everyone. When a murder happens, and blamed on Morgan, she has to invent more lying scenarios. But Belladonna knows!
Will it be a good ending, or will more problems compound the sisters because of it? Stay tuned for more revelations.

I really enjoy the antics of the Blackmoore Sisters, their guide Belladonna and their paranormal mystery solving, but the lying in this one was a bit annoying. (Doesn't Jolene have the ability to read auras and tell when someone is lying?) It was a bit more predictable than the other ones, as well, but I still loved it. Is this the last in this series? If so, I'll miss Belladonna's escapades the most.
