Personal Response:
I enjoy reading Pete the Cat’s Trip to the Supermaket with my younger brother who is in kindergarten. Both my brother and I enjoy the humorous characters who make very silly decisions. For example, we giggle when the papa cat chooses to buy dragon eggs for breakfast! Our favorite character in the book is Pete due to his energetic and fun personality that always causes trouble. My favorite thing about this book is the lesson being reflected throughout the story. Through the events of the book, the reader can get the idea that, just like Pete did in the story, no one will not always get everything they want.

Plot:
After a long day at the park, Pete the Cat and his brother, Bob, tells Papa Cat that they are hungry; however, they run into trouble once they come home and notice that they are out of food. Before going to the grocery store, Papa Cat has Pete and Bob help him form a grocery list; once they arrive at the grocery store, Papa Cat notices that he left the note at home. Luckily, this does not discourage the hungry cats as they decide to continue with the shopping without the list and just buy whatever seems appealing; though, this gets out of hand when Bob and Pete start throwing everything they spot into the grocery cart. At the sight of all the things in the grocery cart, Papa cat becomes annoyed. He has to decide whether or not to buy everything Pete and Bob want.

Characterization:
Bob is the main character in the story. At the beginning of the story, he is a very bossy cat as he is used to always getting his way. However, with the help of several events in the plotline, he notices his bossy behavior will get him nowhere; therefore, he transforms into a significantly more polite cat who understands that it was okay to not always get what he wants.

Papa cat is another major character in the story. He starts as a caring dad who is always striving to please his sons. These characteristics bring troubles in the story as he has a hard time saying no to his sons when they want something. In other words, his caring heart always lets them have their way. Fortunately, towards the end of the book, he notices that sometimes it is best to say “ no” even if it may hurt his kitties’ feelings.

Setting:
This book has no defined setting. It takes place in an unspecified supermarket. This setting helps brings the text alive. Also, it takes place within a modern era. Therefore, the kitties can travel to the grocery store with great ease in their car that is available thanks to the technology available at this time.

Recommendations:
It would be best if individuals reading this book are at a younger reading level due to the easy grammar that an older crowd will find boring to read. Furthermore, any gender would enjoy Pete the Cat’s Trip to the Supermarket as it covers the lessons that could be influential for any individual. For instance, it reflects the lesson that it is okay if an individual does not always get what they want.

OK...I love me some Pete the Cat. This one was good, but I was expecting it to go a different way. I guess in my opinion, it could have been better and funnier. Definitely not my favorite Pete the Cat.

2.5 stars-- This one is most concerned with teaching independent reading skills and not with telling a funny Pete story, although there is some gentle humor here.

When the cat family loses their shopping list right before entering the grocery store, it's up to them to try and remember what foods they wanted to buy.

Veg*n parents note: The shopping trip includes lots of meat and animal products...which isn't really surprising...seeing as Pete and his family are cats. But seeing as real cats don't go grocery shopping, drive cars, or speak English, it's clear these characters are stand-ins for a human family with young children. Veg families will have to decide if they will want another Pete adventure over this one.

Pete the cats trip to the supermarket was a pretty challenging read for my 6 year old but she really enjoys pete the cat and was proud of herself for getting through the whole book without giving up. I offered to take over for her because she seemed frustrated, but she told me "No mom, I enjoy it." The book is bland, but its supposed to be repetitive and my 6 year old benefits from that so I appreciate it for what it is. It also presented a few challenging words like aisle , spaghetti, and remember. It was fascinating watching my 6 year olds brain process the words and seeing her attempt them audibly.

🌸 Supermarket Fun 🍒

Pete and Bob are hungry and ask Dad for a snack. Dad says they need to go buy groceries. They go with a list, but it flies away. They remember whats on it! Who has gone to the store without a list? It is funny and familiar. Enjoy this laughable book.
I went to the Prime Library and downloaded this book.. It was fast and easy. You can also do this. This book is terrific for having simple sentences and review words, so little ones can read them. The illustrations are engaging. I highly recommend this and all Pete the Cat books for all.

My 2-year-old daughter loves it. We've gone to supermarkets multiple times a week since she was old enough to notice, so maybe she finds it relatable?
Pretty average Pete the Cat book, except for one detail that made me like it more: the egg aisle, where we see that in Pete's world, you can buy dragom eggs, dinosaur eggs and even frog eggs that look just like bird ones instead of being a jelly-like substance a female puts in the water to get fertilized.

Pete the cat books have been a consistent common denominator in the classrooms I have observed for beginning readers. I think the book series does a great job of appealing to the 1-2nd grade reader standpoint in content and in visuals. If I have students at this reading level the books within this series are a great starting point for independent reading time.

Great easy reader for my 5 yr old Granddaughter! Illustrations are engaging and detailed. Pete the cat is a solid favorite. In this adventure Dad loses their grocery list and they go shopping without it. Kids have a great time comparing what Pete and Bob put in their cart compared to what was on the original list

This book demonstrates the need for shopping lists. Dad needs to go shopping for groceries so off to the supermarket they go. Dad makes a list but loses it. This was a fun book. What ensues from not having a shopping list is sure to amuse the youngster reading this book. The art is quite colourful so it is sure to please them as well. All in all a nice book.

Fun story

This will be a great story for my little girl to practice reading. Right now she’s only 3 months old, so I’m reading it to her for now. I’ll probably end up getting the physical version by the time she can read.

Good tale of grocery shopping

My grandson likes Pete the cat. This is a different story than most kids books. Dad takes the kid cats to the grocery store but the wind blew away the shopping list.

Great for kids

They are basic reading for children when they can understand what is the word mean with pictures. I pointed it to different things with words. My nieces says ahhh cool I understand lol

The men in Pete’s family find the fridge, cupboards, and even the secret snack nook empty. Mom must be too busy to get to the store. Lots of fun things end up in the shopping cart, like always, more than what was on the list!

A beginning reader featuring Pete, his brother Bob, and their dad. They make a trip to the grocery store and pick out various items to purchase.
Not much plot, but possibly engaging to beginning readers who love the familiar characters, and who will enjoy practicing supermarket vocabulary.

This isn’t the best Pete the Cat but reading something as fantastical as “fully stocked grocery store” and “shoppers without masks” and “children at the store” in this time of Covid-19 was nice
