Isang masayang bakasyon ang pinalano ng magkakaibigang sina Jamilla, Mikee, Cliff, Wesley, at Drew para sa kanilang taunang tradisyong magsama-sama tuwing sembreak. Pero ang road trip ng barkada ay nauwi sa isang bangungot nang masangkot sila sa isang aksidente sa gitna ng kawalan.

"Vertigo" by Serialsleeper is a horror story about an accident that will lead a certain group of friends in a haunted hotel. Even though this book contained numerous cliches (e.g. taking pride with being "one of the boys", typical narrations and dialogues, class clowns having the heaviest burden), it was still quite an entertaining short read, especially for beginning readers.

based sa messages ko 10 years ago, sobrang aliw ako sa story ng vertigo and i loved how na-combine ni nanang 'yong trends at that time + suspense. it was graphic and exciting for my 13 year old self. as far as i know, may references din kasi 'to sa other works niya kaya bonus kapag you know the "lore" which i can barely remember now.
fast forward today, i feel icked with how this story was written and built. sobrang daming racist, misogynist, and fatphobic remarks. as in sobrang straight forward! at first, akala ko mga pahapyaw lang, considering na around 2016 ay hindi pa fully aware ang mga tao sa importance ng hindi pag-tolerate sa mga ganitong behaviors. but it went on hanggang dulo as in every chapter halos ay may cancellable line. if it's my first time reading this, for sure ay dnf talaga and i won't touch any book by her again kasi ang lala ng experience na 'to (in 2026 ha!)
but since reread ito, with the expectation of reliving the "nice" experience, i was left with disappointment and realizations. i believe i won't reread anything from her again or kung matripan ko man basahin ang SAA ay baka mga months from now pa. ayaw ko man aminin but i might not be as supportive as i was before. i'm hoping na nagbago na ang kaniyang mindset on things and life and society and everything but it's just hard to move on from that kasi i love nanang sooooo much! sinasabi ko talagang aliw ako kay serialsleeper kapag usapang wattpad. and now ko lang nireread ang isa sa works niya after 10 years, only to realize na ang dami palang ganoong content sa published works niya.
though narealize ko through this read na these wattpad books are reflections of how problematic our mindset and behaviors before we became "woke". ang lala pala ng condescending remarks na binibitawan natin before and noon ay sobrang "normal" niya but now that we know ay ang sakit niyang tiisin pakinggan. although i must say na the filipino society have changed a lot and narealize ko 'yon through this read kasi wow! kahit na ramdam pa rin nating we're not "that" progressive and ang dami pa ring need ng awareness sa mundong 'to, we've come a looong way already.
but i also think most of the popular wattpad stories today are not like this anymore. sure, 'yong humor na nilalagay nila sa libro nila ay kung ano ang uso ngayon and you can see na hindi na katulad ng nasa vertigo ang #1 humor today. and that's a progress! there's still a lot i wanna say but i think 'yon lang muna kasi i don't know if i make sense. it was still a nice reread and aliw ako na ito ang first read ko since 8 years ago. this reminded me how fast i used to read books and i can notice now the change/s sa taste ko with what media i want to consume.

I really like Serialsleeper's endings kahit pansin kong overly reliant siya sa unreliable narrator. Kahit na-predict ko na 'yung major plot twist around halfway through the story and may mga ridiculous parts () mas important pa rin sa akin ang enjoyment and emotional payoff, hence the score.
By the way, I read this through the audiobook version from Precious Heart's YT channel. Pumitik slight ang tenga ko sa basa ng "creature" ... intended ba 'yun? Huhu.

Nakakaantok ang mga eksena. Kung hindi lang ako matiyaga at naghihinayang sa perang ipinambili ko baka hindi ko na lang tinapos. Pero dahil nasimulan ko na ayun tinapos ko. Bawat kabanata kahit may intense na eksena eh parang hindi ko ramdam. Nakakabagot sa totoo lang. Ang kokorni pa ng gang, joke time kahit hindi nakakatawa. Nasa harap na si kamatayan nagjujoke pa. Cringe. Weak choice of words kaya mababaw ang feels kapag binabasa mo na kahit pa may eksenang patayan. Pero yung plot sa huli medyo nabilib naman ako. Pero kung wala ka ngang tiyaga di mo pagkakaabalahang tapusin.
