The Braydens #2

Earl of Westcliff

Rate this book
When Tynan Brayden, the Earl of Westcliff, rescues Lady Abigail Croft from ruffians one dark night outside the Wicked Earls' Club, he never expects his carefree life to be upended by this girl with big, brandy-colored eyes and a stubborn determination to save her reckless brother. He doesn't know why he feels the possessive need to help her. Perhaps it is because she doesn't ask for his help or seem to want anything at all from him. But this Wicked Earl wants more from her... nothing less than her heart.

Lady Abigail Croft is at the end of her rope, trying to save her foolish brother. The Earl of Westcliff's offer to help only complicates matters, for he is big as a gladiator and handsome as sin, and far too distracting. Her life is already in upheaval and she can't risk falling in love with Westcliff when she knows he will only crush her heart. Or will he?

This title is also Book 2 in The Braydens' Series. Book 1 in The Braydens, A Match Made in Duty, is available now.

OMG Look at the cover model's face ! He's so handsome. The last time I went gaga over a male cover model's face is The Texan Duke. That guy ( Texan Duke ) is more handsome than this cutie though, but I think I definitely seem to have a pattern here...

I shall start by saying that I loved this novella ! I hadn't expected to love it because I've become a bit cynical about novels that have hot guys on the cover ( the story lines don't end up half as interesting as the cover model ). First off I need to address the issue of the H's blatant Irish name: Tynan Brayden. How does an English Earl end up with an Irish name during the Regency era when the English aristocracy were mean, hateful bastards to the Irish Catholic ? I love the name Tynan and I remembered seeing it in the Irish Baby Names book that my late mother in law gave me as a wedding present. Anyway, back to the important stuff !

Tynan is a rake who is a member of the Wicked Earls' Club and the novel begins with him staring out the window of his bedroom at that same club. He's shirtless and there's an adulterous Viscountess called Lady Bascom waiting to have sex with him but he is preoccupied staring at the young lady who is standing on the street corner. And NO ! The young lady is not a Regency Era hooker. She's the beautiful, sweet, kind, adorable and perfect Lady Abigail Croft. Abigail is worried about her brother Peter, because he's an opium addict and she has come to this area to try and get him to leave the opium den and return home with her. Tynan sees 3 hoodlums tiptoeing towards Abigail, so he gets rid of Lady Bascomb, takes his pistols and runs out to save her. I loved Tynan and Abigail's interaction from the moment they meet. The chemistry is alive and kicking between these MC's !

Tynan loses all interest in the jaded Lady Bascom and he saves Abigail. He takes her back to the Wicked Earls' Club and gets a giant boner when he sees her beauty in the light of the room. However, he is very chivalrous so he puts on a shirt ( probably to hide the huge boner ) and tries to get Abby to tell him her story. Tynan is BESOTTED. The guy is hooked and he doesn't even know it. That's why I loved this novella. He is supposed to be this unrepentant rake and he can't decipher all the signs that point to his besotted state: He's captivated by Abby and he's never spent any time rhapsodizing on a woman's physical appearance before. He finds more joy from talking to her than from having sex with other women. He keeps calling her "my little rabbit" in his mind and he has a major jealous and possessive show of rudeness when the sexy H from the Earl of Wainthorpe comments on Abby's beauty.

The sex scene in this novella happens in the final part of this novel, only after the MC's are married and have already declared their mutual love. But I still loved this book. It was so wonderful because Tynan went out of his way to help Abby and try to save her brother Peter. I kept laughing at Tynan because of his continual need to remind himself that he is only being kind and charitable to a girl who had no other person to assist her. The novella is all about how Tynan forgets that he is supposed to be a wicked Earl and spends all his time ( literally ) either helping Abby or thinking about Abby. When he's not with Abby, he finds an excuse to go and visit her and he is so adorable to her. He's perfect ! There are some funny scenes with his mother Lady Miranda, who is a fun loving and warm hearted beautiful redhead who wants Abby to be her daughter in law. His brothers and his cousin James were wonderful too. The best part is that Tynan tells Abby he loves her and proposes marriage before he sleeps with her. In fact he insists on waiting to sleep with her until after they're wed because he is such a gentleman. Sigh...

This is a novella that any reader who loves romantic, non bodice ripping regencies will enjoy. I think I will be reading some of the other novellas in this series and I wish the publisher would think of other series. I can see it now: Damn Fine Dukes or maybe Virile Viscounts or Charismatic Comtes ( even though they're French ). I won't bother with Barons because they're at the bottom of the Peer ladder...

Tynan Brayden, Earl of Westcliff, spends his nights absorbed in the pleasures afforded him as a member of the Wicked Earls’ Club. Although lately he has become restless with his lifestyle and he’s not sure what to do about it. His answer comes in the form of a damsel in distress (but don’t tell her that); a damsel that is everything he is not. Tynan soon becomes beguiled by the headstrong, independent, loyal, and innocent damsel.

Lady Abigail Croft has one surviving family member and she’s determined to save him from himself – no matter the danger to herself. Used to relying on no one other than herself, she’s both thrilled and dismayed when help comes along in the form of a handsome, wicked earl. Can Abigail accept his help without losing her heart? Or is she doomed to lose both her remaining family and her heart?

WOW! I sat down to read Meara Platt’s Earl of Westcliff expecting to read it in my usual 2 – 3 day time frame. Well, 3 hours later I was reading “The End”. A heartwarming, gut wrenching story by the wonderful Ms. Platt. Tynan, the strong, handsome wicked Earl looking for more in his life; even though he’s not aware of it, and the strong, determined Abigail that gets under his skin and burrows her way into his heart….deep sigh.

Series: Wicked Earl’s Club #2
Publication Date: 1/16/18

Twelve novellas by twelve different authors – what a great way to get an introduction to an author you may not have tried before, or to deepen your admiration for a tried and true author. I have read a few of Meara Platt’s books and found the heroines to be incredibly syrupy sweet and this novella followed that same pattern. It is also filled with the humor I have come to expect in Ms. Platt’s writing.

Tynan Brayden, Earl of Westcliff, is a rake. He loves the ladies and the ladies love him. He’s handsome and rich – what is not to love. However, he has been feeling a little empty lately. His amorous encounters just aren’t satisfying. He doesn’t know what is missing, but something is.

Abigail Croft is at her wit's end. She is almost totally alone in the world. She’s lost everyone she’s ever loved and she has lead a very sheltered life – until. She was sent off to an abbey when she was young and hasn’t been living in the real world very long. She’s lost her parents and three of her four brothers. She lives with her only surviving brother, who is a baron. They aren’t poor, but they are far from rich, so she isn’t well dowered. Her brother is also hopelessly addicted to opium and is near death. What will happen to her if he dies? She’s unmarried, has no funds and no relatives. She also loves her brother with all her heart and will do anything within her power to save him – even endanger her own life.

Tynan is in his private room at the Wicked Earl’s Club – just beginning a tryst with a Viscountess – when he walks over and looks out the window. He spots a lady standing across the street and she is totally unaware of the three thugs who are slowly creeping up on her. Tynan tells his lady that the tryst will have to continue later and off he goes – shirtless – to rescue the damsel in distress.

Abigail has followed her brother to an opium den that is next to the Wicked Earl’s Club and she’s trying to figure out how to get him out of the house. She’s startled and frightened when a shirtless, tall, handsome man – with pistols drawn – starts toward her. When he demands that the brutes that she hadn’t even notice halt, she realizes that he’s there to save her. However, she isn’t sure which is the more dangerous.

Tynan sneaks Abigail up to his private room until he can get his carriage to come around and take her home. During the wait, he gets her story out of her and some humorous interactions take place between them (read it – you’ll enjoy it). After she finishes her tale, quite to his own shock and surprise, he volunteers to help her with her brother.

They spend time together over the next few days and get to know each other – and they (of course) fall in love. I enjoyed the story, but, I thought it all happened too fast. I know it was a novella, but the author could have stretched time periods out so that the love part was more believable. The HEA is lovely, the family is endearing, the Earl of Coventry is sneaky (in a nice way) and the wolf gets his rabbit.

In love...
E ameiii.... Só que confesso foi pouco... Queria muito mais.. Mais esse pouco foi perfect... In Love!!!

I Will Take The Wicked Earl!

This is another story in a great line of Wicked Earl's! If they are wicked, I pick any of the ones that I have read about! The Earl of Westcliff is about to have a rendezvous with another man's wife, when standing at an open window he spies a young lady, on her own, without protection, on the street opposite, The Wicked Earl's Club. Abigail is standing outside The Wicked Earl's Club, however, next door, is where artist, and her last remaining brother , a Baron, is taking opium! She is determined to save him, without realizing, she, herself, needs saving, as three men are approaching her! Westcliff sees these men from his window, grabs two pistols, leaves the woman in his bed, hurries down the stairs, without a shirt, out he goes to rescue Abby! Thus begins, a Knight in shining armor, Beautiful Damsel in distress story. He promises to help her, to get her brother out of the dangerous opium den. Abby, is honest, loving, kind, tender hearted. Westcliff is finally sowing his wild oats, after years of helping raise his handsome younger brothers, and looking after his families estates , Westcliff is really sowing his. Will beautiful Abby, be ruined, by the most handsome bachelor in London? Will Westcliff give up his wicked ways, for a young, innocent, whose brothers problems, are a matter of life and death?
I highly recommend! Thanks! Enjoy!

This is a lovely Regency romance. Tynan Braden the Earl of Westcliffe see's himself as a wicked man who only has use for a woman for a night or two, not a lifelong commitment. This is until he meets Lady Abigail Croft. Her brother is suffering from an opium addiction and she is desperate to save him, the only family that she has left.

The relationship that grows between Tynan and Abigail is quite sweet, he wants to help her and make her happy. Each minute that they spend together they grew closer and he starts to realise that his future is with her.

Abigail is a good character, although I don't buy the idea of her not having been taught to dance. I'm not convinced that any lady of this era would not have been schooled in all of those arts that were essential for trapping a husband. It didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the story though.

I really enjoyed this book. It is part of a series where each book is written by a different author and is about an Earl who is a member of the wicked Earls club. This is also the second book about the Braden family, Tynan's cousin also features in this book having previously having had his own story A Match Made in Duty. I expect that there will be more books in for this family to come.

I found this a really good book. Abigail is a strong character. She tries to save her brother from an opium den which happens to be next door to the Wicked Earl's club. Tynan Westcliff rescued her from some footpads outside the club and instantly feels a connection with her. He wants to help her with her brother and manages to work her way into his heart and to change his wicked habits.

What a charmer , Tynan is a typical rake , loves the ladies and they love him .
Meeting Abby totally upends his world .
Abby has lost all her family except her brother , he’s not the man he use to be and his addiction to opium threatens not just his life but her world , enter Tynan , her knight in shining armour.
A great book , with a touching and very sweet story , I loved the all the main players in this , The H and h were great , but so too were the others met before in The Braydens series also by Meara .
The whole family are so believable , can’t wait for more books .
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

The Wicked Earls’ club Rocks!

I love the whole idea of this series and how different authors got together to write them! The Earl of Westcliff is an awesome hero with a delightfully wicked way about him. When he falls for the lovely Abigail and her innocence, he can’t help but help her and her brother. I loved seeing characters from other books and to watch as each member of the club find their own hea!

Awful

The lady cannot tell a good tale so she pens porn. She ought to study Meyer's books to learn how to produce romance for an audience.

Wicked Indeed

Earl of Westcliff, by Meara Platt, is the story of Tynan Brayden and Abigail Croft. Prepared to enjoy a night of pleasure at his exclusive men’s club, the Wicked Earl’s Club, Tynan glimpses a young woman about to be accosted on the street outside the club. It’s not the first time he’s seen her there, but after rescuing her from the street and bringing into his private rooms in the club, he’s curious about her story. Abigail has lost her parents and is about to lose her last brother to the opium den next door to the Wicked Earls Club, and will do anything to get him back. As Abigail tells the story of her brothers pain after fighting in the war against Napoleon, and how he uses the opium to dull that pain, Tynan can understand and relates to Abigail, as he watched his cousin James fight his own demons after returning home from the war. Tynan agrees to help Abigail in her fight to save her brother from himself, and she wants to accept, but she is worried that she may lose not only her brother, but her heart.

Once again, Platt has written an emotionally gritty story, with larger than life characters. Abigail is innocent, but she’s tough! She’s loyal, independent, curious, headstrong, and she won’t give up the fight. Marcus is a giant of a man, who loves his family but doesn’t believe he’s ready for one of his own. But everything about Abigail gets under his skin, raises his protective instincts and makes him reconsider.

This is part of an all star author group "The Wicked Earl's Club"...Meara again has written a fun, feisty, yet at times very serious Novel! Tynan Brayden is the "Giant" Earl of Westcliff. Know for his size and protective instincts he is also the cousin of James Brayden (Match Made in Duty) Earl of Exmoor. Once again we visit a topic some find hard to read about, the results of war (injuries, mental illness and internal pain). While this is a rough topic, Meara has the gift to be able to turn tragedy into a positive and twist a whole lot of love, romance and snark while she is at it.

Tynan has helped and seen his cousin overcome his disfigurement, from the last war, and is happy James has found a wife and true love in Sophie. He; however, wants nothing to do with marriage and respectability. That is why he is a member of the most secret, deviant & wicked club for Earls. While he is about to spend the night with a married woman and a Peacock feather Tynan sees an innocent young woman hanging around the lightpost about to go into the building next door. That particular building is known to be a notorious Opium den. Something the Earls do not like but must tolerate. His loving/protecting instinct (from being the older brother to a group of comical GIANT Brayden men) kick in and runs out to see what she is doing (and his lady friend leaves in a huff).. Just in time to rescue her from some unsavory persons. Lady Abigail Croft has absolutely no clue how much danger is she in. She has one goal. Get her beloved brother out of the Opium Den and save him from himself. Having returned from the war (her last living relative) a broken man who is haunted terribly day and night he seeks comforts from using drugs. He doesn't want to waste away but that is exactly what is happening. Abigail is desperate and seeks Tynan's help. Tynan seeing what James went through agrees. He seeks help from both the Earl of Coventry (the leader of the Wicked Earl's Club) and his cousin James. It is agreed that Abigail and her brother stay at the Earl of Coventry's country cottage to break clean from Opium. There is one catch if Tynan sleeps with Abigail he MUST marry her. Now the challenge begins, having someone go cold turkey is one challenge, keeping his hands of a woman he is falling in love with is another thing. He does not want marriage and to make matters worse Abigail has not only fallen in love with Tynan is very interested in finding out what a beautiful Peacock feather can do!

Tynan Brayden, the Earl of Westcliff is part owner of a den of iniquity. He spends his time in debauchery. One evening he looks out the window of his apartment in his club and sees a young woman standing across from the club. He also sees 3 fellows sneaking up on her. Tynan leaves the naked woman in his bed, grabs his sword and goes out to rescue her wearing nothing but his trousers.
Lady Abigail sees her knight in shining armor...a gladiator. He gets dressed and takes her to her home. She is beautiful and his blood is fired. The wicked earl wants her and he can tell by the way she looks at him that he can achieve his desire.
Lady Abigail was standing outside his club watching the opium den next door. Her only remaining relative is a drug addict and she wishes to rescue him. Tynan implores her to stay away from that place which is even worse than his place.
Soon Lady Abigail is in love with the wicked earl and he is besotted with her. They make plans to rescue her brother and of course things don't turn out the way they planned.
This book is long on panting lust and short on plot. The author overuses the word gladiator.

This is the second book in this author and it continues the story of the Wicked Earls. The Earl's have been selected by the Duke of Coventry who seems to be a "mother hen" to these earl. He is helping them move from rakish boys into the men he knows they could be.
In this case Tynan, the Earl of Westcliff comes to the aid of a young women who is in danger of being accosted by some drunks. Tynan has already started the process of tiring of the drinking, gambling and womanizing. When he finds a reason to help someone else he steps up to the plate.
Both Tynan and Abby are well written characters. Abby is struggling with trying to help her brother with his opium addiction. This is something out of the ordinary in a romance novel but adds to the story.
As the two work to help her brother, Peter, they come to fall in love and both grow and mature as characters. By the time it comes, you can't help but celebrate the Happily Ever After with them.

Oh I’m loving the Wicked Earl books, this is the second of the series & I’m totally hooked. The characters are very well portrayed & the pace of the story is good, so much so that I read it in an afternoon. A very engaging enjoyable book I look forward to more books about the Brayden siblings from the author & of course my weekly dose of the Wicked Earls

I loved this second book in the Wicked Earls Club series! Tynan Brayden, the Earl of Westcliff, rescues Lady Abigail Croft from being attacked by a group of street men in front of The Wicked Earls Club building. Abby is there in search of her brother who has been lured to the opium den next door to the Earl's Club. Abby has lost everyone in her family (parents & 3 brothers) & just can't lose her last brother. She is very grateful to the wicked rogue, Ty but does not ask for help from him after confessing her story. Ty feels drawn to help her (maybe because she wouldn't/didn't ask for help) & Abby finally accepts his help & knows she is quickly falling for him & must protect her heart - she has enough going on in her life. Abby upsets his carefree lifestyle & Ty finds he wants more from Abby, he wants her heart. Highly recommend this book - it has everything; lovely & smart Lady, handsome & brave Earl with humor, romance, gallantry & a HEA!

Tynan Brayden was featured in A Match Made in Duty as the then Viscount Grayfell. Here we find him now the Earl of Westcliff. He sees a young woman outside his club's window about to be set upon by some drunken men up-to-no-good so he rushes out to rescue her. One thing leads to another and throughout the story he continues to come to her aid. Abigail is struggling to keep the last of her four brothers alive. He is slowly killing himself with his Opium addiction. Westcliff wants to help, but knows that he has to keep away or her reputation will be ruined. His honor would demand he marry her if he ruins her, but he is not ready for marriage. However, staying away is impossible and he finds himself drawn to her almost like the brother is drawn to the Opium.

TRUE LOVE CAN FIND YOU ANY TIME ANY WHERE!

Meara Platt, received 5 STARS for her wonderful romantic story of the Earl of Westcliff. Our Earl aids our heroine right off with her heroin addicted brother, plus has an inner debate if he just desires her for now or if he is in love. She falls in love with the Earl as she battled her brothers addiction to herion ; he is a wounded soldier from the war. I loved the interaction of the people in this and especially how the Doctor detailed what the addict brother needed to get better. I felt many different emotions while reading this.

Wonderful love story

Gave 5 stores because that is all that can be given. I fell in love with this Hero at the beginning and loved even more on each page until the end. For a Wicked Earl he got my heart because was so kind, caring, tender, and loving to a fault. Abby was his perfect Soulmate. This was the perfect romance, learning to love each other, with so much heartache to overcome, and with just a little sensuality. I just couldn’t put it down, wanting to know what happened next. My only complaint would be it didn’t last long enough. I only hope their story will continued in another book. I so highly recommend. I have her next book to start next.

Though I haven't read all the books available in the Wicked Earl's Club, the Earl of Westcliff is one I greatly enjoyed. It helps to have a swoon-worthy cover model to think of when one reads the written work. Tynan Braden, Earl of Westcliff, rescues a young maiden from ruffians. Though he didn't plan on getting involved, he ends up helping Abigail save her reckless brother from his opium addiction. A captivating romance I didn't want to put down till it was finished. There is a mild sexual encounter but IMO, it enhanced the romance between the characters.

Reasons why I enjoyed this book: romantic, steamy, wonderful characters, entertaining, easy-to-read.

Hero: Tynan/Westcliff - Heroine: Abigail/Abby
4.* : I enjoyed this story of love at 1st sight that captivated me from the very first page with the well developed characters kept me totally engaged until the end. Unfortunately I felt some cliffhangers are left not with the couple per say but her brother Peter, an epilogue would have satisfied that.
This couple's story has a very happy and satisfying HEA, minus the fact I don't know whatever became of her possibly dying brother. for that reason is this is a 4 and not a 5.

I read this book in the Wicked Earl's Club boxed set. Absolutely loved it....and that cover! Meara Platt is a favourite author of mine. Her stories are always unique and entertaining. They draw the reader in. I devoured this book in one sitting. The characters were wonderfully written. I loved Tynan immediately and my heart was reaching out to Abigail. I loved that some of her previous characters made an appearance. I also want to read more about Tynan's brothers. As always, Meara did a fabulous job and I would recommend all of her books that I have read.

Quick and lovely HEA

Tynan, Earl of Westcliff had no desire to be a hero. Yet, there he was rescuing a lady from three ne’er do wells. Miss Abigail was desperately attempting to save her brother from his opium addiction. And that is the rest of the story. Lovely yet heart-rending also as the reader gets a clear-eyed look at the affect of drug addiction on family - even in historical England. Well done.

Cute

This was a sweet story about Tynan, a rather naughty Earl who has grown tired of his own life. He accidentally meets a young woman, Abby, who needs assistance and without even thinking, he rushes in to save the day. Abby is trying to save her brother from himself but it’s far more difficult than she knows. Tynan decides he is going to help her and the two fall for each other while dealing with the conflict.

This is a good story of Abigail and Tynan, Earl of Westcliff. Abby is seen outside the wicked Earls Club late at night. Ty goes to her rescue when men try to accost her. She wants to get her brother out of the opium den next door to the club. Ty takes her home. He realizes this girl is different from the usual ones he knows. He agrees to. Help her to save her brother from his addiction. Along the way he falls in love with her. Very good story. Includes a peacock feather.

Earl of Westcliff, Book 3 in the Wicked Earls' Club series (it is also Book 2 on The Braydens' series), was about the Earl of Westcliff Tynan Brayden, another well-known rake of London, and Abigail Croft, who is the sister of Baron Peter Croft (aka Lord Whitpool). Tynan saved Abby from some ruffians one night and realized she was needing some help saving her brother. Tynan offered to help in any way he could.
While Tynan helped Abby with her brother's issues, they both began to fall in love. There was a subtle chemistry between them and a slow-burning passion. There wasn't a lot of drama, angst, or humor, but since it was such a short story, it was well worth the read. This book will also have a place with the other Keeper for the Shelves books and novellas.

This is a fun, entertaining read. Tynan and Abby are interesting, relatable, intriguing, fun, complex, entertaining characters. I love a Brayen male and Tynan is right up there, sigh. New book boyfriend. Their path to their HEA was not an easy one, but very fitting for these characters. Platt manages to fit a lot of story into less than 130 pages. The various secondary characters added to the fabric of the story and my enjoyment. The book is easy to read and get into.
