The Forgotten #2

The Legends That Remain

Rate this book
A storm is brewing, and this goddess does not like the damp…

Bat Sitru, an Egyptian goddess, is content in her new life in Sligo, Ireland. She tends the bar, participates in all the sing-songs she cares to, and is making new friends. The only thing she could wish to change is her relationship with the O’Loinsigh brothers—they’ve grown distant, and she’s afraid to upset the careful balance the four of them have found.

Before she can figure out what to do about that distance, an invitation arrives from the head of the O’Loinsigh family, leading to the revelation of long-held secrets and her visions come to life once more. What she will need to face this time is nothing so simple as a mad woman out for revenge—old legends are stirring as an ancient evil seeks to return.

Along with Dub, Mell, Shar, the reluctant Finn, and a host of other outcasts, Bat will confront a growing conspiracy of fae, gods, Fomoiri, and an evil long locked away. All she wants is to enjoy her strawberries and tea, and maybe a kiss or two, but sometimes a goddess has to do…

Well, a goddess has to do what a goddess has to do.

Cecilia Randell is the pseudonym for a lady author that has not quite worked up the courage to give you all her real name. She loves a good story, and often finds herself thinking "what if...", so decided to put some of her 'what ifs' down in words for others to, hopefully, enjoy.

Every bit as good as book one this one picks up the story pretty much where it left off. Bat wishes the guys would stop pulling away but family drama intervenes making them act in ways they usually would not. When it bleeds into their daily lives they have to no choice but to tackle the mystery around them but it will be so much harder then they thought it would. Fantastic evolution of this group drawing them closer together yet still full of lots of twists to keep you guessing. Bat is really coming into her own now. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.

Bat is lonely. Here she is living with 3 brothers and a pub of patrons visiting but what progress she made towards hugs is gone. And she's once again simply existing instead of living. But then a summons comes, a goddess sends a messenger, and an ancient evil whispers from dreams. This may be the nudge they've all needed to reclaim lost ground. And maybe even make further headway.

Spoilers ahead.
I love the naive sensuality that Bat is reclaiming for herself. She was a fertility goddess, but centuries of solitude have withered her. Her emotions, her attitude, her powers, her very being has pulled inside. She's pushing her boundaries by making friends, putting down roots in an area she was only supposed to be visiting, and still hoping for a relationship beyond friendship from the brothers. But, there's a possibility of more on the horizon, and not just with the brothers. Some of the POVs don't make sense. Where mentions could have been made they the various fae were contacting others to spread word, we get POV from each of the various fae. Another scene involves trying to contact a deity for passage. Instead of the messenger simply reporting back we get a partially cruel (or maybe just mildly malicious and instigative?) insight into a character's thoughts that was sort of immediately forgotten after some panic inducing news that led to the cliffhanger ending. It wasn't awful, it just seemed like it wasn't altogether necessary to have all these new POVs instead of focusing on the main characters and seeing the receive the news through their eyes. I do enjoy the flashback memory scenes that give Bat insight into her past, events that become relevant in various ways, and some of the flashes of the guys' past.

We got lucky and the second book released not long after the first one.
If you have started this one, you know it picks up where the first one left off.

I enjoyed this one more than I did the first one.
Which is not something that happens often.

This story follows Bat as she works through relationship issues while also preparing for war and unraveling a slew of mysteries

Told from multiple points of view.
Bat and her men.

Ends on a slight cliffhanger.

Some might find how the guys treat Bat to be overbearing and overprotective.
Not thinking she can take care of herself even though she is several thousand years old.
But I think it's sweet.
Every guy wants to take care of what is theirs.
Whether they can do it themselves or not.
I think it's endearing.
Though it could probably be toned down a wee bit.

Overall, I think this is an interesting series so far and I'm curious to see where it leads.

I loved book one of this series, and I was so happy that book two released not super long after. Bat works out her relationships issues in this one, and there is some preparing for war and unravelling of mysteries. Cecilia Randell is amazing at blending and intreating mythology is very interesting and intriguing ways. I also love all of the characters, and learning about their pasts and how they work. Randell's writing is a joy to read, and incredibly original, not to mention Bat Sitru is an incredible, interesting main character. I can't wait for book three to finish off the trilogy! I might just go reread book one. 5 stars.

What?

I can't believe where the book ended :(. I love Bat and her men. A few typos threw me off and I had to reread to make sure I understood them. Overall though another great book. I can't wait for the next one.

Ok

I like this idea. The one thing that seriously gets on my nerves is how the guys treat bat. She is a goddess. She doesn't need saving or protecting. Yes she is weak now but they act like she hasn't been alive for thousands of years.

Love This Series

I love Bat. I loved that she looked into herself and saw how she had not been healed and then worked to fix that. I'm glad she confronted her men about the distance between them. I'm glad she made the decision to move forward. Bat's character really makes progress in this book. I love that Finn becomes a part of things as well.

Overall, I just love the story. I really like the direction this went in. A lot happens and forces are gathering. I'm excited for the fight and for Bat to claim her remaining men. That cliffhanger, though...
