Among her many names are Holle, Holda, Herke, Bercht and Percht, Frau Wode, Frau Gode, Frick and Frekka. Lots of citations and sources scattered throughout. The book is essentially in three parts, first is an introduction to the historical sources of germanic mythology, second is an exploration of Germanic (mainly German) folklore of the modern era which may or may not provide further insights on the sources of part 1. Finally the book turns to arguing the controversial claim of its title, which is that Jord and Frigg were the same deity in Norse paganism. This is argued quite well, but not definitely proven. It relies heavily on discrediting the prose edda as an allegedly less reliable source than the german folk customs of much later times. Worth a read, but seasoned scholars of Germanic religion can certainly skip part 1 and maybe part 2 if they are familiar with the work of Jacob Grimm.
This book is written very scholarly with many references and you could tell a lot of work went into its composition. It proves beyond a shadow of a doubt the Germanic Earth Mother is indeed Frigg, connecting folk lore and resources from every possible angle to prove his initial theory. The work is also very thoughtful and deserves to be taken serious by anyone interested in understanding the Poetic Edda and old Germanic culture.
