A mail-order bride’s journey takes an unexpected turn that leads to mystery, deep secrets, and love!
Etta’s journey to Copper Peaks was meant to be a simple one. Instead, she’s ended up promising a stranger that she’ll keep a precious brooch safe without knowing anything else about it. What makes things worse is that her husband-to-be has wound up marrying someone else, leaving her all alone.
Reuben Drummond can’t help but notice the desperation in Etta’s eyes. After helping her find a place to stay, he finds himself drawn to her, but always feels like there’s something she’s holding back. When the truth comes out, Reuben finds himself torn between old friendships and the urge to help and protect Etta.
As the mystery deepens, Reuben and Etta are forced to confront the dangers lying in wait in their own small town. Can they discover the truth and manage to save a life? And can they finally confront what’s been going on in their own hearts, too?
If you love historical western and mail-order bride romance books with twists and turns, you will love this sweet and clean romance story.
This is a clean and wholesome, stand-alone romance.
Etta is on her way to Copper Peaks to marry a man. On the way one of the other passengers gives her a story and brooch to keep safe until the woman returns. Then Etta learns the man she is supposed to marry has already married another person.
Reuben helps Etta find a place to stay with his mother. She can see how upset and desperate she is. He starts to wonder what she is holding back. He really likes her but knows something is wrong.
The adventure begins when Etta finally comes clean about the brooch to Reuben. Can they figure out what is going on?
Reuben was the type of man any woman would want to have a friend and husband. Caring and genuine. Etta was the type of person who wanted to do right by people and wanted to love.
in this Mail Order Bride romance, Etta arrives to find that her intended has married someone else, and a female stranger, another intended bride, has left her with a valuable brooch.
So what should Etta do now? No money. No place to stay, and the only thing she has of value is not hers to give.
Reuben tries to do a friend a favor, and ends up helping Etta.
Can they both survive this adventure? with they do it with their lives and hearts intact?
sometimes life on the frontier is a struggle and the story takes a very different path than earl settlers expected.
Maybe a love story, but certainly an adventure and trial of faith and trust.

Etta Charlton is on her way to be married as a mail order bride in Copper Peaks. In the stagecoach, she is given a broach by a woman who tells her to keep it safe and keep it a secret, then the woman leaves the stagecoach in the middle of nowhere. Etta discovers a telegram left behind, addressed to Laurel stating “he’s after you.” Rueben Drummond meets Etta at the stagecoach, but he's looking for Laurel. Etta discovers her groom got married to a different woman already. She has nowhere to go, so Reubens mother, Hetti, takes her in. Etta doesn't know who she can trust, is she in danger? This is more of a romantic mystery, and I found the story to be sweet, clean, and interesting.

This was a great short mystery historical romance book. I liked the characters and the plot kept moving. I liked that Etta was able to find some help when she first gets off the stage and finds out that her groom had married someone else. Reuben was a man full of integrity and I liked how loyal he was to his friends. The story was short and didn't allow for much development of the characters, but overall this was a great book for a quick feel-good read. The mystery in the book added to the story and kept the book moving. I liked how it all came together.

This book kept me entertained and intrigued from beginning to end with interesting characters and a well-written story that had a good balance of suspense, twists and turns and sweet, wholesome romance. I really liked the attraction and dynamic between mail-order bride Etta Charlton and Reuben Drummond who comes to her aid after she discovers her husband-to-be married someone else leaving her all alone. Fans of this genre will love Etta's Secret. I look forward to more from this talented author. Etta Charlton is given a broach by a lady who promptly abandons the stagecoach they are traveling in. She tells Etta to keep it safe and not tell anyone. Afterwards Etta discovers a telegram addressed to Laurel stating “he’s after you.” Scared Etta tells no one even after discovering her groom to be married someone else and she is given refuge with Reuben Drummond’s mother Hetti. Reuben met her at the stagecoach looking for Laurel to bring her to his friend Gus. Everyone is a potential suspect and Etta doesn't know who she can trust. Plenty of suspense in this historical romantic mystery.
Definitely not my favorite book by Ruby Hill. I have enjoyed most of her other books, giving mostly 5 star ratings. The characters were good in this book. The story just seemed too confusing. I was put off by the number of "ain't" sentences and I am aware that this was how some spoke in this period. Just wish those sentences had been cut down by half. All this being said, I would recommend every book that this author has written. Definitely try this one - perhaps you will appreciate the story. Vicki from Wyoming
It started out pretty exciting, once she reached her destination things settled down for a moment and then quickly spiraled almost out of control, I'm glad that she handled things the way she did. Gus turned out to be a huge surprise and the twist to the story was a good and unexpected one. Very good read again she was able to pack a lot of story into a small package.

This story begins with a mystery. Who was the woman who gave Etta the brooch and what was she afraid of? Etta’s mail order husband has married someone else before she arrives. Reuben and his mother save Etta by giving her a job and a place to live. Both Etta and Reuben are wonderful characters and he respects her. Etta is a mail order bride arriving in Copper Peak. A mysterious strange woman shared to coach ride with Etta. Upon arrival she discovers her groom was married to another the day before. What to do? Ruben is a young handsome owner of a start up ranch/ farm. They seem to be attracted to one another. Will they discover true love?
This story is intriguing and consists of various twists and turns. What is unbelievable is that Rueben would allow Etta to come along along on a manhunt. This definitely would not have happened in this era of history. This story starts out intriguing with a slightly boring center while the plot builds, but the climax is quite exciting.
A well-written story that I enjoyed reading Etta is a mail-order bride that has her groom marry the day before she arrives. Seeing what happens next kept me turning pages. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Enjoyed reading this sweet story and learning their story. The extra element of a mystery to solve and the risk of danger involved added much to the story. The author did a good job of making a believable and entertaining tale.
Etta arrives in Copper Creek with a Broach and a telegram of another lady from the stagecoach and a pled to keep it a secret. From then in strange things happen.
Great story, everything and more I expect in a romance. The characters were very believable, with just the right amount of suspense, and drama. But most of all a great happy ending.
