Atomic Habits (2018) provides a practical and proven framework for creating good habits and shedding bad ones. Drawing on scientific research and real-life examples, it shows how tiny changes in behavior can result in the formation of new habits and help you achieve big things.
I can’t imagine reading the unabridged version. Or maybe I read too many habit-forming books 😅 Reaffirms some of the tricks I use and gives perspective on how we form habits without realizing it.
Greatest self development book ever written !! Iv studied some of the most successful minds via podcasts and reading and everyone references this book 📖 I read this for the first time fully around a year ago when I first got sober and revisiting this via audio is incredible and a great reminder of the power of the compound effect
It's pretty straightforward and some of the advice is really obvious. Yet, I found a lot of the small reminders for building habits such as setting 2 min. goals and building on that really helpful. I have so many small distractions that take away from my main goals. I'd recommend this for anyone looking for a quick and useful read!
It was definitely a great summary and it helped me form a an idea of James Clear’s message regarding breaking habits. Unfortunately I had to read the summary of atomic habits because my public library didn’t have an audiobook for the book but I left feeling was quite satisfied and motivated to break some of my negative habits!
I will suggest this to everyone this book, especially students this book give you the idea of making routines. I am sure that this edition will help you to concentrate.
Not bad but feels dated. The examples feel unrealistic like the author didn’t bother to use examples from reality. Specially the many ( mostly unscientific btw) references to weight loss feels very tired. I will take home some of the tips though, and I also feel I already do some of this unbeknownst of it being an atomic habit.

I listened to the audio version and took notes as I went along. I feel like I’ve read very similar books with similar advice about habit building but it’s a good reminder either way. Here are the main points I took away:
1. Small changes only make a big impact overtime not overnight 2. Habits are formed automatically, and we learn from repeating experiences. Habits are triggered by cues, which enable a response or action. 3. Building new habits requires implementing hard to miss cues 4. Make a habit, attractive because humans are motivated by rewards. Do so with temptation building. This is when you mix an enjoyable action with an an enjoyable, but important one that you need to make a habit out of. 5. Make behaviors easy to become a habit by reducing friction and using the “two minute rule” (things are always hardest to start) 6. Make habits immediately satisfying in small ways because most of life is about delayed gratification 7. Use trackers and contracts to keep habits on track. Trackers could be journals or calendars and they’re satisfying because crossing off stuff feels good. Contracts are where you give negative consequences if you are off track on your habit building. 8. Habit stack to build new behaviors. This is adding a new habit to one that you already have so there is a natural momentum you can build off of.
Atomic Habits is more than just another self-help book — it’s a clear, actionable guide to transforming your life by focusing on small daily improvements. James Clear writes in a way that’s easy to understand and deeply practical. What I liked most was how the book combines psychology, science, and real-world examples to show how habits are formed and broken.
The “1% improvement” idea really stuck with me — it’s a mindset shift that makes progress feel achievable. My favorite chapter was the one on identity-based habits, which taught me that real change comes when you see yourself as the kind of person who does what you want to become.
It’s not a perfect book — some ideas feel repetitive — but overall, it’s a powerful read for anyone who wants to make lasting change without burning out.
Final Thoughts: Highly recommended if you're looking to improve productivity, health, or mindset with simple, practical methods.
I keep seeing ads for this book but not convinced it’s for me. Decided to try the summary. The tone is cut and dried but the instructions to try the strategies to become are better person add easy to understand. Some Netflix bashing occurs in this book. Forming new habits can improve your life in multitude of ways but the examples in book focused on reducing social media time, weight loss/fitness goals and financial goals. The tips and tricks and ways to ease into adding/replacing current habits to habits more tailor focused were cool. Still not sure I have the internal motivation to start. If you already feel overwhelmed by inefficient time management, I don’t think this book will help you. If the motivation is there, then it’s worth a shot.
The excessive emphasis on toxic wellness and diet culture was an unpleasant interruption to what was otherwise a very useful book. If it could have been written with the respect for the fact that everyone is going to have their own version of "good" and "bad" habits it would have been much easier to read. Also, the discussion of genetics and behavioral psychology was pretty shallow and outdated. Still, lots of useful tips. I'll be happily taking away ideas such as habit stacking and beginning with 2 mins a day, and try to forget the more problematic bits.
This was a quick listen that I started during my kids soccer practice. I wish I would have taken some notes so I am definitely going to listen again with a notepad or something. It broke it down and reinforced some things I already knew I needed to do but also introduced some ways of thinking and concepts that I haven’t heard before. I would recommend this book to anyone trying to change their life and make lasting habits. Here’s to being a better version of yourself. I intend to try out these methods.
James Clear delivers a masterclass in habit formation with this practical and insightful guide. Atomic Habits breaks down the science of behavior change into actionable steps, making it easy to adopt good habits and shed the bad ones. What sets this book apart is its focus on the power of small, consistent actions leading to transformative results. A must-read to kickstart your year with purpose and focus!
I have also listened to this on audiobook in the car, and while doing errands in the house! It's easy to follow and can be consumed in so many different ways.
My husband brought this one home from the library. I just have to remind myself that these books just aren't for me.
It's not that they are filled with insightful information and ways to think about how habits are formed and how to use this to your advantage... I guess I am in a place of my life where I long to think about something else. I find that I love my job, I love to bike, I love to take walks, I love to read, I love to eat fresh fruit and drink tea on chilly morning. I am not looking for ways to shift my life or reinvent myself. Nor do I want to do it for others.

The book is quite amazing the very very simple ways to create a habit and how to continue it and how do destroy bad habits how to maintain it . The book contains a specific examples which is proves the point correctly. Strongly focuses on building and maintaining and creating new habits how our life will change by a making one and one and one and then life change dramatically.
I was glad to see the summary of this book, and I thought it was very well done. I feel like I get the point of the book and that I got the meat without having to invest so much time. There were some really good things to consider - and reminders of things I already knew.
I started to listen that as an audiobook, because I am trying to improve my English knowledge. It was very informative, usefull and I have learned many interesting ideas how to apply good habits into my daily routine.
Smart and straightforward advice, but no revelations. More like a reminder of basic knowledge. A typical "That Girl" book. Lots of self-help podcasts, insta reels and yt videos have been praising it, so I gave it a go. It was good, but not that good. Maybe I need to work on my algorithm.
It was a quick 25 page summary of the full book. I'm glad I found this instead. The ideas are spot on, but for me, it's stuff I already know/have practices at some point or another in my 40 years, but was a good reminded and some things/habits to rework back into my life. Small steps/goals at a time. I liked the quick important parts of the book and don't feel the need to read the full version now. However, I am ready to work on some goals and put them into action with these tips/reminders.
Excellent. Very informative and easy to read. I found myself taking lots of notes. I now follow the author on social media to keep his points fresh in my mind. Signed up for his newsletters. My favorite book this year.
This book is everywhere for a reason. Clear breaks down habit formation into a science backed, practical guide that actually makes sense. The best part is how actionable it is. Small changes really do stack up, and this book proves it.
